My 360 is dead

My launch 360 is working fine, but even I know 2 people (of the 4 people I know with a 360) who had a broken machine. I fear for the future of mine.

Yours will probably die. Microsoft extended the warranties of 2005 machines indefinitely and pulled all 2005 refurbs which suggests to me that they know that they are all fucked.

Recieved my replacement today, looks like a refurb ( date is somewhere around early 2006 ), so I put it online and downloaded the update ( patch? ), loaded up Dead Rising and left it on the title screen for around half an hour like someone suggested, then loaded Double Agent and played through about half of the first mission with no problems ( had three freezes in the past ).

Looks promising so far but I suppose Gears will tell when I get that at the weekend.

All Xboxes being sent out are refurbs. The only time they were sending out new machines was a few months back when they realised that 2005 machines were irrepairable and didn't have enough 2006 refurbs to take up the slack.

Game won't listen to me unless I can show it's fucked, will they?

I got my 360 swapped at Game today, after getting frequent crashes in CoD3. They swapped it after a quick rummage through the box to check everything was there, with no problems whatsoever.

I have a problem with mine, but don't get any red lights:

After long periods of being turned off, when you turn it on the centre light comes on, but no video signal or any green lights on the ring. The controller ring just flashes (all 4) on/off. Turn it back off/on and then it works fine.

Is death coming for me too? It's not even a month old yet, FFS.

Oh man, I got home yesterday after reading this thread and wanted to sit down for a quick blast of Ridge Racer. I turned on my TV and then my 360 and guess what? Just a few days away from Gears of War and what did my 360 decide to do? Yup, you guessed it, it booted perfectly and I had a blast on Ridge Racer. I even had time to watch the new Gears of War trailer in lovely HD. That game is going to rock.

But yeah, sorry to hear about your problems guys.

Freezes are common, mostly caused by poor ventilation and overheating.

The guide button can also cause software freezes in many games, (COD3 is one)

basically if you get freezes re situate your 360 and see how you go (maybe hoover the vents on the back) Also be careful with the guide button, using it in certain situations can cause freezes 100% of the time)

any ring of doom stuff try the wires, but graphical glitches that stay on screen mean its a processor knackered.

Trust me I have had 3 now.

PS I did say fuck this shit I want my money back (at the retailer I got my first 2 boxes from)

I got a full refund on my visa card. Sadly I have 10 games and many accessories and therefore went to Game moments later and bought a brand new replacement.

Also if you can record the errors on your camera as stills or a video (I did and that and the threat of legal action was what got me a full refund after 11 months!)

Is that true? Do you have a source for that information? Mine is a 2005 model and has recently locked up a couple of times, with December fast approaching I was a bit concerned it might wait until the day after my warranty expires to die, that would certainly provide some peace of mind if true.

Its defo true for American machines, I dont think its been confirmed for Europe though.

what i dont get is why, in the history of videogame consoles, whenever you yank out the av cable you can easily plug it back in without any affect on the console, but the 360 requires you to reboot the thing to regain the signal? Hell, even pcs allow for this sort of plug and play.

.::: It's not needed for Europe, as it's two years standard. What you need is a confirmation for the UK. That seems to be the odd one out.

.::: YOU DID WHAT!?

That's one of the more sure-fire ways to kill an Xbox 360!

DO NOT DO THAT AGAIN.

I'm sure theres a post in here stating the UK only has 1 and regardless of the 2 yr EU one it doesnt apply to the sales of Goods act. or something, Super Nashwan pointed it out yesterday.

You can kill a Dreamcast by doing this as well. Its not a new thing.

My guess would be that it has something to do with the fact that the console needs to know what cable is plugged into it (composite, component, RGB, VGA) (and how it is set) so that it can work out what display types you can have, and it should be using. I can't think of another console that has allowed you to set display resolutions.

Well, my story comes to a close today, I went to GAME, after frantically searching (and failing) for my 360's receipt! After a quick call to the customer services dept, they sorted me out a brand spanking new 360 with no worries, even let me keep my old Hard Drive! Yay!

:(

Ah, now to enjoy GoW in spanky Hi Def this weekend :(
