My 360 is dead

Well, my story comes to a close today, I went to GAME, after frantically searching (and failing) for my 360's receipt! After a quick call to the customer services dept, they sorted me out a brand spanking new 360 with no worries, even let me keep my old Hard Drive! Yay!

Do you mean GAME's customer services department? My 360's receipt has magically disappeared now that I need it as well, and although I've technically got a repair order with the Xbox 'support' line, it's been several days and they haven't even sent me the e-mail yet...

I'm no stranger to sarcasm but... you're kidding right?

.::: I'm not. It's how 'we' killed the first debug. (And someone else killed his retail.) ALWAYS completely power-down when you switch cables or ANYTHING attached to your Xbox 360. I really fear connected cables and such with the 360 because of it.

Sorry I forgot to mention that they could only do it since I'd bought the 360 using my reward card, so had proof of purchase. That's why they called customer services.

EDIT, Argh, I'll explain it properly.

1. I phone GAME customer service, asking what I can do since I lost my receipt

2. Turns out my reward card history is proof enough of purchase

3. Went to shop, the guy in the shop had to phone customer services again, for some receipt number or something

4. They swapped me a new 360!

Thanks. Just did exactly the same thing, although the guy in the store didn't even ask for my reward card or anything, just asked me what was wrong with it and swapped me a new one.

Who knows whether this one will suffer similar freezing, but at least it's a hell of a lot quieter than my 12/05 model. If only sendit.com had managed to get GoW to me today, then I'd have something to really put the new machine through its paces.

Yeah, seems its fucked. Managed to play the Lost Planet demo for 30mins, before deciding everything was fine again (now with the window next to the 360 shelf thingy open :( ) it literally crashed just before I pressed the power switch

Then it fucked up on the 360 logo boot sequence.

Back to GAME with it then, in time for Friday! Sheesh. How very annoying.

Mines worked great from launch day till last week when I got COD3, it started freezing all the time. With all the posts on various topics about people having the same issues I put it down to the game/disk but I got GoW this morning and it froze twice in the first hour which made up my mind to take it back to GAME for a replacement as I was beging to have doubts about it and with the warranty up in a week or two I did not want to get my fingers burned.

In fairness to GAME they changed it without any problem, just a quick description of what was wrong and they swapped it no problem.

Are you people formatting your hard-drives before getting replacements from GAME, etc.?

I think I'm going to have to take mine back to Toys R Us on sunday, but I don't want to format and then be told they wont replace it and I have to call Xbox Customer Support instead.

Well, well well, i was looking at the 'Are you still on your first Xbox 360 site last night' thinking rather smugly to myself, yes, not had one problem with it. Turn it on hours later and i get 3 red lights. It didnt even go out in a blaze of glory, just as soon as it turned on, 3 red lights, no start up screen, no noise, no crashes, nothing :)

Got mine from argos online, whats the best thing to do? Also id like to keep my saves and hard drive if possible.

I swapped hard drives over so I could keep my original, with it having game saves, Live details etc.

A quick call to Argos (who got me the Xbox 360 in the first place when GAME let me down on a preorder) have cme up trumps again. They offer a full years warrenty themselves meaning i can take it into store and have it replaced (although they mentioned it may be sent away for repair, sounded like a script to cover everything though) so first thing tomo its getting replaced and a new 360 will hopefully be on its way.

Damn...my 360 started freezing on Monday and is now totally unplayable. I am really angry...this is the 2nd time. Really looking forward to playing Gears and COD3 this week. I got it on launch date. I bought it from Game Oxford Circus...anyone know if my local Game will swap it round or will I have to treck back down to the west end?

Yay my replacement 360 froze last night when using the guide whilst still on dashboard. This is my fourth by the way (launch model lasted nine months then graphics card died, second got red lights for unknown reasons after a month, third I was unlucky enough to pick up during the 48 hours that applying the dash update would brick any new 360). I treat the bloody thing with kid gloves and it gets more ventilation than my PC so I can't see it's me doing anything and this happened about five minutes after switching it on for the first time that day so I really don;t think its an overheating issue.

Is it just that the guide is a bit flakey? As I think they'll think I'm some kind of weirdo console exchange fetishist if I go into Game for a fifth replacement.

*UPDATE*

Took my 360 back to my local Game this morning. They exchanged it no probs. Manufacture date of the new one 30/09/06.

Guy in Game said Game honour the warranty from date of purchase on original reciept but Microsoft will now honour the warranty a year from date of manufacture on the back of the console. Anyone know if this is true?

Fingers crossed.........

I don't know what to advise you, but they should have issued you with a new receipt which would have covered your new machine for a year from when you got it. It sounds like they are getting fed up with the returns and are trying to get out of honouring covering them.

I was told in GAME that their company policy is any replacement 360 runs on the original warranty of your first 360 from date of purchase.

Mine went a few months ago and the store manager just wrote on my original receipt, which was from launch day, that I had exchanged the item. So basically my new 360 only has, in effect, a 3 month warranty running out at the beginning of December. I think this is wrong but I even spoke to Microsoft and they said I would have to pay for an extra warranty and that the retailer was doing the right thing. Dunno if any other stores actually give you a year from the date of your replacement purchase. I think they should.

I think this is wrong myself. If they cant provide a machine which will last the duration of the warranty, then that's their problem. If your second machine gopes tits up within a year, then they should replace it, as it's still not served an acceptable amount of time. When I worked at Curry's, rubbish though they may be most of the time, when you returned something faulty, you got a new receipt with a new 12 month warranty, no matter how many times it broke.
