Edge 170 scores

Distinct muttering

Recommended Posts

Lifted from a post on NTSC, seems a bit early mind.

Anyway, here they are

Zelda = 9

Gears of War = 8

Final Fantasy XII = 9

Wii Sports = 7

Red Steel = 5

Tony Hawks Project VIII = 8

Rainbow Six Vegas = 6

Vice City Stories = 7

Call of Duty III = 7

Sonic = 3

Medieval II = 8

Dark Messiah = 7

Super Monkey Ball = 7

Guitar Hero II = 8

Neverwinter Nights II = 8

Railroad's = 6

Need for Speed Carbon = 6

Lumines II = 6

Interested to see why they rate GOW 8, its a stand out 9 at least for me, wonder if they played the multiplayer much for their review?

Very disapointing score for Vegas :wub:

I'm interested by the Red Steel score, I was expecting a 5, 6 or 7 game as it really looked very average from all the pre release stuff.

However I was almost swayed to add it to my Wii preorders in a moment of weakness after the robust defence of NGamer's credibility in a recent thread on here as they gave it a 9. Edge scores are the only ones I've had any faith in for years now so it'll be interesing to compare the Red Steel reviews.

Ahhh, Zelda :wub:

8 for Gears ???????????????????????

Fucking idiots.

Also Red Steel LOL

Their problems with it are that close combat is awkward and clunky, the story is uninspiring and dwindles 3 acts in, there is no reason to go back and play the game after finishing it (this is on Hardcore) and the relatively few number of maps mean that its online potential might be exhausted too quickly.

They end by saying that it does what it sets out to do (show off the U3E and 360) but no more than that.

Good issue for reviews I think. Not at all surprised about Red Steel to be honest.

FF XII gets a wonderful review - really looking forward to that.

They certainly liked Zelda, but I wasn't quite sure how they thought it compared to Wind Waker.

What do they say about Red Steel? (hides behind sofa)

They summarise by saying that regardless of the new control system, it's basically an average trawl through corridors shooting at things, or words to that effect.

Close combat? Its supposed to be a game played at range using cover and tactics! They dont want you to run and gun and get into the thick of the action.

Plus it has 10 maps. Hardly paltry, with some DLC to follow for sure.

Pah!

Disappointing score for Red Steel. I had high hopes for this after NGamers, 90 percent score. I'm far from writing it off yet, but was hoping for an eight, or at least a seven to give the game that extra stamp of approval.

I weep for Sonic's 3. Not that it comes as any surprise, but it's still criminal how Sega are continuing plough the character into the ground.

I haven't played it but surely Edge can only reveiw what comes in the box regardless of very probable DLC that will probably cost extra. As for the remark about the close combat, the game may not be about it but that doesn't excuse it from being poorly implemented (if it is).

Agreed on DLC, I was just highlighting the fact the multiplayer as well as coming with ten maps from the off, it will be supplemented again in the future. Hardly grounds for worrying about its longevity due to lack of maps? How many multiplayer games have shifted with more than 10?

Close quarters combat isnt poorly executed, its just more difficult to do by design. thats why the multiplayer is so good, it enourages people to use cover and keep enemies at arms length.

Yeah, but there are some sections where it's inevitably up-close (unless I'm doing something wrong). For example, like when those little fast running fuckers get all over you.

Still, such sections are few & far between, and I'm certainly not criticising the game: it's comfortably a 9 for me too.

It's weird how the people who pay the most attention to an Edge review are the people who've already bought the game and have decided how much they like it.

yeah because people dont like to see good games getting unjust scores, that will put other people off them.

obviously edge being the master of giving great games 7s.
