A thread for PS3 owners Here

I was never a great lover of the PS2. It always felt inferior to the Xbox. A rubbish controller, fucking memory cards, piss poor DVD playback ( I could never get The Matrix or Starship Troopers to play in it), awful launch games and terrible ports (see Splinter Cell). The graphics were crap and a game with the scale of Halo was simply not possible. Online play was a joke as well.

Now we have the PS3. Brilliant graphics, superior capablities to the 360, a first rate Blue Ray player, great launch titles (Motorstorm and Resistance in particular) an online service that while not Live quality is still vastly superior to the PS2 days and ports that are finally getting to MS standards.

The point is that with an awful lot of great games to come I think I will end up prefering my Ps3 to my Ps2. Sony could still fuck up big time, but they finally seem to be learning from past mistakes whereas MS are just starting to make all theirs.

I was on the PS2 onlie beta and had loads of games to test, the service was awful. Warhawk is the same service with less DNAS errors, online on the PS3 is an utter joke. When on a server in game it works well but of course having no voice as standard hampers it. The online for PS3 is amongst the biggest failings of the PS3 IMO.

Generally i am warming to the PS3 (mainly as it runs so hot, teehee :( ) When it does things right it is let down by the pad and shambolic online offering (warhawk) but at least now it has some good games on the way that i want. I even got more out of the R+C demo, still not gonna get it but it is a nice show off for the potential of the machines gfx power.

I think Warhawk online is brilliant! I much prefer it to Halo 2, GOW, Shadowrun and GRAW2. Only the COD4 beta comes close for me.

While WarHawk the game is excellent the online service is utterly terrible.

I'd disagree. Around launch there were a lot of technical problems in regards to stats not updating and such, but those have seemingly all been sorted now.

As a multiplayer only game I don't think the service is as good as it should have been, but it isn't 'utterly terrible' and is far superior to, say, Shadowrun's (which I really liked) and pretty much any of Ubisoft's Tom Clancy games.

Can someone please help me. I need to have ES in my eyes and ears, but can't for the life of me get my bastard card to work. It's a VISA, so I thought it was pretty simple. Does the card have to of been used somewhere in the States for it to work, and do I have to use that address?

I'm confused, so if someone could step-by-step me, I'll grant them one whole sentence on my tombstone.

(The address I've registered my PSN account for, 1 Tree Hill, California, 90210 doesn't work and neither does my real life address).

Does the card normally let you make purchases abroad? You may want to try contacting your bank and telling them you intend to use the card in a foreign lands... just a thought.

I've used the card abroad but because it's on the US store it says the card is invalid when I try to buy it. I assume it's because of the billing address being US whilst the card is actually billed to a UK address.

I'd need to try it myself. I don't see how. And I would be supprised if they enforced it that hard. It woudn't take much to simply block you from PSN US or JP altogether based on your IP or perhaps even machine type - so why quibble about an address I wonder? Hmm. I'd even bet that the credit card transactions are done through a 3rd party. So I doubt they can even compare the credit card address to your PSN login address... Some investigation required. :(

On the second payment page it asks for the card billing address and America is greyed out so I can't change it. I think that's it.

I tried to register on Wirecard but HSBC blocked me from depositing money. I called them and they say it's due to an unexpected €1 transfer. I guess they just took that for me registering! And each time you put money in you have to pay THEM €1. Why on Earth would anyone want to use that?

Yeah. I think it charges in anything that can fit.

The PC also recognises it as a PS3 controller so I assume it works fine on it too.

Cheers. I've plugged it back into the PS3 again now. I assume it can charge whilst the PS3 is in standby? Just that it gives no indication that it's doing so.

I'm not too pleased by Rachet and Clank, it feels like a grand illusion at my expense. See all the city and carnage! Now, take this prescribed route and relive Sonic Adventure 2 again, please.

I knew it reminded me of something. There's just no freedom to do anything. It is pretty mind.

I launch Warhawk, go to the server browser, pick a ranked server and am then in a game. What's the problem?

Some people like to play with their friends? There's no decent lobby thing. I also wish there was an announcer. The end of the game always comes as something of a surprise to me. When is our battle?

I don't think it does. The red light flashes when it's charging.

Yeah, joining friends is a pain but Home should fix that.

Our battle can be tomorrow! Have you added me? My PSN is Soong.

Apologies if this has been covered before, but this is one big-ass thread. I'm currently using my PS3 on a CRT TV, but I'll be taking it over to a mate's house tomorrow and connecting via HDMI. I'm fairly sure I read something a while back about some kind of issues when switching between different connections. I can't be any more specific than that; I just seem to remember something about display problems when using a different connection to the one used to set up the machine initially. Do any such problems exist, or am I making it up?

If it wont display correctly then simply hold down the PS button when you switch it on. Will reset the display to standard def.
