A thread for PS3 owners Here

The Conan demo (and I'll be hated on here for this) is actually alright too. It should be called Co-not-quite-god-of-war-nan but the demo, albeit short, is alright. I thought it was better than Heavenly Sword. On a demo-for-demo comparison basis that is. The only other demo I liked was Stuntman. The rest have been shit. They actually put me off games. Like they nearly did for Sega Rally. (nearly mind!)

From recent comments in this thread it makes me wonder if the main percentage of people who download stuff from the PSN are sat in the dark just browsing the shitty EU store. Anyone who fits this description, do your PS3 a favour and create a US account. You get tons more demos and downloadable games, not to mention they come out much quicker there as well.

Right, I'm in. I had to dispose of some surprise income in a frivolous manner, and the 60gb reduction deals gave me that excuse to play Motorstorm that I've been after for months.

What do I reckon? The PS3 itself does feel more 'capable' than the 360, which I suppose just means it's quieter, come to think of it. I like not having a power brick, even if it means a bigger console. Whether I'll still like it when the power supply fails and the whole console has to go off, I'm not so sure.

The interface seems very nice and I prefer it to the 360 blades. The online store works well and being able to pay the exact price in pounds feels like rediscovering sanity.

The controller doesn't trouble me except for the sloping R2 / L2 buttons, which are the work of demented madmen; seriously incomprehensible design. Does the rumbling' pad fix those, or are the idiots sticking to their stupid guns?

I got a second controller (despite the previous paragraph) rather than the two Blu-ray movies of my choice, because as far as I can tell Blu-ray as a format has a dangerously unbalanced wheat to chaff ratio; Full Metal Jacket's about the only BR disc I'd be interested in at the moment, and that certainly wasn't in the offer. Still, there's Planet Earth about to come out, so that'll be my testbed.

Games: Motorstorm has turned out to be everything I hoped it would be, it's excellent fun. The time-trial download is fantastic and online, from the test game I had, seems like a lark. The only thing that casts a shadow is the poxy shoulder button issue, but the game itself I love.

Resistance seems like a decent FPS, though it's a shame I'm having to play it in the wake of Halo 3. Still, it makes a change and it hasn't done anything to upset me yet. It's Resistance that shows up the lack of rumble, unlike Motorstorm - I could almost swear that Motorstorm was making the pad rumble, in fact. It's subtle stuff like rumble indicating that you've been hit, or giving feedback to your own shooting. It feels odd without it, especially after the great job that Halo 3 does with it. I was expecting to notice it more in Motorstorm, so that was an odd turn of events.

From the store I bought Loco Roco, Stardust and Flow, and they all seemed enjoyable to me. Warhark's up next, I suppose, though I'm going to get more into what I've already got before I go there.

So, so far I'm pleased with it. If I hadn't got the cash and the PS3 hadn't got Motorstorm then I wouldn't have touched it, but as things stand I'm really looking forward to getting back home and doing some more time trials. The 360 is the better option, no doubt at all - the game selection and Live see to that - but I think I'm going to be happy enough having both.

My username's VanThal, so if there are any rllmuk Motorstorm races or Resistance games going on, sign me up.

What details do you need/use?

I've yet to go online with the PS3 but having recently got back into Motorstorm, I'm up for some of that :D

PSN is monkeysInc so if anyone else with Motorstorm/NBA Homecourt fancies a game, feel free to add me. Really tempted by Warhawk too...

You fool, I did try and warn you. Consider yourself added though.

Obviously your presence was a big 'swinging' factor.

Cheers for all the ID adds, I'll sort those out. Does it work like Live, just accepting the requests?

I'm glad to hear the chat might be rare in Warhawk, because playing CoD4 with the headset off has been quite a refreshing change - back to the Quake days. If I'm playing Lone Wolves in H3 I usually take the headset off, it's... contemplative. And antisocial!

Yeah you just get an add request.

Voicechat is overrated and mostly used for calling people gay fags.

The good thing about Warhawk is people are all pretty considering. I haven't seen team killing yet! Whilst if I'm on foot and a jeep is coming by, they'll stop in case I wanna jump on the back turret. Awesome!

Unless it's an enemy jeep, of course, in which case I lay the smackdown.

H3 Lonewolves example not withstanding, the voice chat aspect of Live is brilliant. Playing Halo 3 team games, Crackdown, R6 and Flatout would feel very empty without it.

As I get older I find Live is vital for socialising with mates that I don't see in the flesh as often as I used to. Playing over PSN won't feel the same, by which I mean, it won't feel as good.

Yeah voice chat is great if you just want to chat about random stuff but if you go in a random game expecting great teamwork over voice chat then 99% of the time you'll be letdown.

I should have made it clear that voice chat over Live with friends (which includes forumites I don't actually know IRL) is cool. Talking to strangers feels just as weird as it should.

Oh yeah, obviously it IS great when you want to use it - in H3 team matches, for example, or if you're on with friends, it's excellent. I think I've just gotten so used to it that not having it feels like a pleasant novelty, in certain circumstances. Of course, you can always get it set up on the PS3, but MS did the right thing making it an integral part of Live.

Oh, one thing I should have added to my initial post: composite video out of the box? YOU IMBECILES!

Are you suggesting we swap partners? Do say as I'm appalling at reading between the lines. Back on topic I'm wondering how long before you realise that Flatout's a better game then Motorstorm.

Ah, but I'm all about the time trials, and multiple ghosts + unlimited laps makes me very happy, as do motorbikes and stupid huge jumps. Flatout's time trials make me sad and unhappy.

Swap partners? You're just after the baby, you fiend.

I know what you mean, I used to play Halo2 without the headset nearly all the time - tactically a disadvantage at times but does wonders for your sanity. You're also spot on about the controllers - the triggers are unimaginably shit. I'm only on my PS3 at work, normally till 7-8 - plenty of overlap with your awesome work hours.
