A thread for PS3 owners Here

Hello Goaty ♥

Recommended Posts

Just been trying a few demos. Motorstorm is really good, though I wish there was more choice. Heavenly Sword is absolutely appalling for a demo, truely pathetic effort. Downloading Resistance now...

As soong said, it feels really posh. It's slick and fast navigation makes the 360 feel clunky in comparison, though it's not so hot on the formats it can read (no Quicktime, WMA ffs).

You're also spot on about the controllers - the triggers are unimaginably shit.

I mean, unthinkably so after no more than five minutes' use, so I can't begin to imagine how they got to production. Tragically, the actual mechanism of the triggers feels quite nice - just the right amount of resistance, smooth and silent as opposed to squeaky - but the shape blows it all to hell. Has anyone come across a third-party pad that does a better all-round job, I wonder?

Yeah the triggers are a joke. Why triggers have to be a different shape to actual triggers I don't know.

It does get a bit more bearable once you find a decent way to hold the pad so your fingers don't slip off as much, but daaamn. It's not even gonna be fixed for the DualShock3. Bloody idiots.

No, I'll give you smooth and silent but the resistance is shit - it's all nothing, nothing, nothing till right at the end where there's no tangible sensation when it's at 'full-on', just this spongy broken kind of feeling. I genuinely can't tell if my dislike for Motorstorm is to do with the controller or the game itself sometimes, on paper I should fucking love it. As it is I get cramp after fifteen minutes and bored after twenty.

I cracked on Saturday... haven't had much time with it so far though, PGR4's been getting in the way.

You should have got one for TK, you really missed a trick there.

No

Don't 'no' me! Oh, go on then. It feels better than that to me, but that'd depend on the context of the game and personal preference; the 360 triggers are better in all resepcts, naturally. With Motorstorm, where you might as well have constant full acceleration with no button required, I just hook my finger into the gap at the top of the trigger. Otherwise you just feel your finger gradually slipping, slipping, slipping. GAH! Morons. I should check if the accelerate button can be remapped, I haven't got round to doing that yet.

I just checked, there are two control setups you can choose between, the second maps accelerate to 'x' which would do the trick. Still, why bother having triggers if they're so badly implemented people go back to using the face buttons?

I find using face buttons for accelerate and brake more effective so change to them whenever I came. Although I did the same on the 360 pad as well. I guess I like having just the one thumb to think about for both functions. Less brainz needed.

But then you lose analogue control (I know sixaxis has 'analogue' face buttons but they're useless at registering analogue movement) - it would make games like PGR almost unplayable without analogue brake and accelerate. FFS even the shite Dreamcast controller got this right.

Yeah you just get an add request.

Voicechat is overrated and mostly used for calling people gay fags.

The good thing about Warhawk is people are all pretty considering. I haven't seen team killing yet! Whilst if I'm on foot and a jeep is coming by, they'll stop in case I wanna jump on the back turret. Awesome!

Unless it's an enemy jeep, of course, in which case I lay the smackdown.

Warhawk really needs teamspeak when doing CTF or Zones and this lets it down not 'really' having voice (i know you can but just having it as standard would have been much better) Being able to go off in a group and planning it would be ace, beeping the horn on the jeep is the current method of teming up it would seeM! !

I had 2 instances of team killing yesterday and it showed another PSN failing, no way to 'punish' them. Baiscally they did it for an entire round and no action could be taken (well maybe it could but as no-one has comms ...)

Overall tho Warhawk is excellent and with mina golf 5 two exclusive games that make the ps3 worthwhile.

Check this shit out:

http://community.eu.playstation.com/showthread.php?t=151162

Hi, I've found the following improvements for better and smoother framerates for ps3 games.

Like set the BD/DVD upscaler set off,HDMI 24fps off, HDMI audio set on bitstream, PS2 upscaler/smoother set off.

Disable system display notify/ mediaserver off / all other automatic setting set to off / internet disable if not multiplaying and other setting etc will all help improve framerates.

I tested all the games with HDMI 720p, and all games runs more smoother, speed and more responsive, I think cell dont have to spend time in the background from those settings before.

Let us know if this also helps the framerates for you too.

No idea if it works, but I'm trying it when I get home, just to see. Seems a bit unlikely though, surely?

True enough, but that's hardly Motorstorm's fault. PS3 devs must weep every time they look at that controller and are reminded how effortlessly it sabotages their best efforts.

Factor5 perhaps the best example. I know it's not Motorstorm's fault, but as a player it gets hard to disentangle which direction to vent spleen.

On the subject of triggers, I was pleasantly suprised to find that a PS2 to USB pad converter I've got seems to work fine on my PS3 (it's one of these) so I thought I might take a chance on a GameCube pad converter, if I could find one cheap. I've a feeling it wouldn't work because, if nothing else, the Cube pad has too few buttons, but still might be worth a try.

Couldn't find any in stock at play-asia though, unfortunately, and the only one I found on Ebay is 15 quid.

What's even more disgraceful, is that the trigggers can accidently be acitvated by putting down the controller too quickly.

...hold it - you mean this adapter makes your PS2-pad actually rumble when you play PS2 games on your PAL machine? A few months back re: BC there was a discussion about various adaptors and none seemed to work in this way.

But yours actually does?
