A thread for PS3 owners Here

Hello Goaty ♥

They are taking the piss Euro style with the NA update, two more hours and it'll be a Friday update for people on the east coat. It must be because everyone wants that NASCAR 09 demo, they have to make sure it's working just right. Or maybe because they haven't put up a demo in so long they forgot how to do it.

I think your TV set-up's up the piddle mate, I have FFXII running upscaled at 1080i and it looks x100 better than it does on a cathode-ray telly.

Same goes for Okami, Yakuza etc. Not sure why some people are getting weird results?? What PS3's have you got? I'm using a 100% compatible US launch 60GB, but it would be a bit weird if BC varied between models.

When I first played FFXII it looked like shit, but this was corrected with an update yonks ago and it's been stunning ever since.

I wasn't comparing it to a cathode-ray TV, I was comapring it to my PS2 connected to my plasma via component cables and it definitely looked better on that than the PS3 no matter what setting I used.

Oh, and I have the same PS3 as you.

Hmm. I've got a 60BG PAL PS3 which is hooked up via HDMI to a Panasonic plasma and that looked worse than when I originally played it on my PS2 on a small LCD.

I would've last had a look at it end Feb/beginning of March I reckon, so it ought to be fully up to date. I wouldn't have to force the update would I?

That's not the same comparison though - try running your PS2 through the plasma.

You're right of course, but the God of War games look ace on my current set up, which shows there's inconsistency in the quality of the PS3's BC.

Unfortunately I don't have a PS2 anymore - I sold mine when I decided I was getting a BC supporting PS3.

Gamestation are offering a Pstriple with any two games for £350 as of today, or three games for £375.

Going to walk in there a week today and pick up a PS3, GTA4, MGS4, Grid, plus I'll track down a cheap copy of uncharted. Anyone got any better recommendations?

Save your money on Uncharted. Rent it as you really can breeze through the game in two or three reasonable sittings and get EG5 like everyone said.

I bought a PS3 today :-) Go Me! Mainly for some Metal Gear 4 action and for a cheeky bit of Initial D. Looking forward to some big blue ray releases like Cloverfield too. Im dead happy with it. I think it complements the 360 well. 2 quite different pieces of kit.

Only thing that interests me about it is the SOCOM: Confrontation BETA that's supposed to come with one of the issues.

If I can get that by buying one of them for a quid fifty I'm in.

Yeah if you buy the first issue (you only need to buy the first issue) you get a code for Socom beta, but the Beta doesn't start until the summer, and the code doesn't get you in until the beta has been up for two weeks. People who pre-order Socom get in the first day, I think.

Interesting, where'd you read that mate?

On the US Playstation Blog thing and NeoGaf. Jeff Rubenstein (one of the Sony mouthpieces on their blog) confirmed you need only buy the first episode for the code, and the boys on NeoGAF got the info about when it'll start and when the code will get you in.
