A thread for PS3 owners Here

I thought you needed 1.3 for the high def audio formats?

Turns out you do, but you can still use hd audio by sending an uncompressed signal (which the ps3 can do). But it's irrelevant in this case

You'll only need 1.3 for audio if you are going into an amp/receiver and have equipment that doesn't handle uncompressed audio or has native hi-def support

1.2 is fine, and 1.3 is mostly video additions.

Wll I got a 1.3 lead and it still sounds a bit off.

I play through headphones but the sound is like when you get your first car and crank up the sound. When there is a lot of bassy sound feels like the speaker is going to blow.

I am only playing on a samsung syncmaster 225mw.

The 360 looked and sounded fine through component, perhaps I will have to buy on of those leads.

I was all set to get a 360 after the summer, but having Spacehost's PS3 on loan is making me wonder. Its all-seeing eye is nicely handling media centre duties, for example. What's up for grabs post-MGS4?

Little big planet

wipeout hd

resistance 2

soul calibur 4

New naughty dog game?

team Ico game

Im sure they'll be loads this year.

Firmware 2.40 Announced

In-game XMB, trophies confirmed.

by Jeff Haynes

US, June 17, 2008 - Looks like the rumors of in-game XMB support and game trophies were true. In a recent Playstation.Blog post, Eric Lempel, director of PlayStation Network Operations, explained that a new firmware update, v2.36, will be coming soon. This impending release will improve system stability with specific PlayStation titles. However, the big news of his blog post was that the upcoming firmware 2.40 will indeed feature "'XMB access' in-game" as well as trophies and other enhancements. While no release date or other details were mentioned, Lempel stated that official information within this update would be coming shortly.

Fucks sake, just bring it out already, and if this comes out at the same time as Wipeout HD I think I am going to melt.

They really understand how to disappoint, do Sony. I switched on my PS3 as I do most mornings (I browse the web over breakfast on it) and the Firmware Update prompt appeared. "2.4!" I think "Now perhaps the PS3 will actually be finished!" Of course, instead of a noticeable upgrade, I get 2.36. I'm let down for no reason. Just making that playstation.blog post a few days ago would have prevented that. (Putting "coming soon" on an update that's already out by the time most of the customers read the post is retarded.)

Still, at least it downloaded well quick.

What's out this week on PSN? A few new themes and a crappy trailer? Where the cock is WipEout HD?

Just seen this about the sony motion controller, I like the idea..

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/231233.html

Wii rip off or not, that does look excellent.

I think the big question (of course this is all assuming that video wasn't made by somebody in their basement with a sawn up Duel Shock) is how easily the two parts pull apart and snap together. A magnetic system would be good I think, and going off that video, it did seem to function fine.

Could this be the reason Sony have yet to clarify a launch date for the Duel Shock in Europe? Maybe we're going to be the first market for whatever motion controller they've got planned.

There's a lot of people on Neogaf saying that the new update has made their 60Gb PS3 go from quiet to silent.

It does something, seems the fan sometimes goes off completely now (or was that my imagination and it always did that?)
