Patch 2.0 is coming

TIP: If you've not done-so already, start downloading patch-compatible mods NOW - as you won't be able to get anywhere NEAR the download sites Wed/Thu...

BETA versions for TBC/2.0 (the same thing as far as most mods are concerned) are fairly widespread - at least for the more popular mods.

As most of you will know, changes in 2.0 mean anything which targets someone or casts a spell will probably break/fail - and that means a LOT of mods will need updates and some will just 'die'.

Sadly, Curse (probably the biggest mod site there is) have decided to roll-out their new website - just 2 days before patching - and it's quite broken, with downloads missing and authors struggling to upload. What a FANTASTIC idea that is!!!!!

WoW-Interface and ui.WorldofWar will ahve to suffice I guess - it's time to start trawling...

On another front entirely - anyone know for-sure what the 2/3/5vs2/3/5 content in 2.0 actually is?

The Arena Ladder/Points/Rewards system is for Level 70s ONLY so I'm assuming it's only the skirmish-mode we're getting - which is, essentially, 'practice'??

There are also rumours that Arenas don't offer honor (tokens being for Level 70s only) which could make them a rather 'barren' place until TBC arrives!?

They give honor only. No tokens. Just another way to get honor really, but with a "kill or be killed" goal rather than the other BG's objective based system.

Hmmmz - a few people reckoned there was no honor in Arenas on the PTR - I suppose there may be no honor at ALL on the PTR tho?

Also - any truth in the rumour that all BGs will award XP for winning/losing - to replace the XP you used to get from handing in the tokens.

It's just a few twinks I know are SPITTING KNIVES at this one :) :)

You can't say you don't need to do SOMETHING to deter twinking - as the changes to enchants are NOT retrospective...

I've been playing a Level 18 Paladin in PvP 'for a laugh' and I've had rogues hit me for 100-130 a time - that's HIT not CRIT from a fast-weapon dual-wielding player.

My (nice blue) slowish 2H crits for about 150...

I have 33% mitigation on those numbers too!!

I've managed to update a lot of the addons I want to keep already. The authors of the others seem to have been too busy to roll the changes out in time, but I'll have a final sweep on Wednesday to make sure.

For Ace addons, have a look at - http://www.wowace.com/wiki/Category:WoW_Version_2.00_Addons

Otherwise this section of WoWInterface should be handy - http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/index.php?cid=89

For the Ace add-ons which ones do you recommend, I'm looking to clean up the add-ons I use so this patch seems the perfect time to try and start from the beginning again and ideally use as few as possible.

Depends what you use really. I'd recommend just browsing this page and looking at the descriptions of what's available, and seeing what takes your fancy.

I'd suggest you don't worry about whether all of the addons on that page are updated for WoW 2.0 right now, because if an addon's still going to be usable, chances are someone will port it at some point, and that page will give you the whole picture as opposed to restricting you to just seeing what's been updated in the past few days.

Or if you have specific requirements you can ask here, of course.

I might just be being an enormous r-tard, but where do you grab stuff from on the WoWAce site? Are the beta links the ones I want? Will I have to clear out the WDB/WTF folders when I add the newer ones?

Click into addon name, there should be links to download in the box on the right of the resulting page.

I've been going to the Beta: Ace SVN Zip and grabbing the latest link (scroll to bottom, basically).

Then saving all files to a new folder on my desktop. I'll totally clean out my existing AddOns and WTF folders on Wednesday I think, then copy in the new files from the desktop folder.

My overall UI looks like this (with everything showing!!) right now

newui2s.jpg

I use ACE2 mods wherever possible - the main ones being...

Skinner (for the black bottomframe and 'plain' frame graphics)

Bartender 2 - actionbars moved where I want em (*)

Fubar + various plugins - ACE2 Titanbar sorta thing (see top)

OneBag/OneBank/OneRing for Inventory

AutoBar - consumables bar bottom right

Elkano's Buffbar - buffs (right of HUD)

Witchhunt - SpellAlert sorta thing (not shown)

PerfectRaid - an EXCELLENT party/raid display (not shown)

Non-ACE mods you can see are...

METAHUD - screen centre health bars, mana bars etc. etc.

TrinketMenu - shown left of AutoBar

(*) Bartender2 relies on RedRange (ACE2) for range colouring and Omni Cooldown Count (not ACE2) for cooldown timers FYI...

Oh - and I use the Blizzard CombatText - saving memory and cpu over SCT 2.0 - tho that's ACE2 now I believe...

p.s. For those of you still struggling with the frankly NASTY Critline - can I recommend Critrecord, which puts your crits on your Actionbar Hints - MUCH neater - search Curse for it (it's down ATM so I can't link it!!)

p.s. All that lot - with Auctioneer loaded etc. etc. - is 44Mb of memory - I used to use over 80Mb :)

ok this is in reponse to the twinking.

I'm a 49 Paladin but in the pvp battlegrounds I had a mage hit me for 1200 damage not once, not twice but every single time.

And another time I was down to 75% health (sits at 2600) and he killed me in one hit.

Twinked to the max???

He was a level 47 Mage

I'd like his gear for sure

I have a 49 'Frost Frost and more Frost' Mage - I can get +206 Frost/Spell damage (at the cost of sta of course) - and my best EVER Frostbolt crit is 1293.

I could add 2 Epic [Freezing Band] rings (wearable at 47), Frost Power on gloves and SpellPower on a weapon - perhaps a couple of bits of my 'Frozen Wrath' armour could be improved a few points - that's close to +300.

If you had Curse of Elements on - and were frozen (which increases his crit-chance a LOT!!) he could repeatedly hit you for silly, silly numbers :)

Not at level 49, though. Our most geared mage wearing a mix of Netherwind and Frostfire, full enchants and Staff of the Shadow Flame crits Frostbolt for about 2.2k.

There's no way a mage could crit 2600 at level 49. I don't think it's possible even if he's Berserking and pops Arcane Power.

My level 45 mage has started critting for 1000+ now. At 47, I don't think 1200 is beyond her capability. She's not even twinked at all - wearing Dreamweave which she made herself and some Azure Silk Pants, Hypnotic Blade and the Mage Quest Offhand orb thing.

If I really went all-out damage twinkified though, yeah, 1200 easy at 47, the way my crits have gone up through the levels.

And I did crit a mob three times until it died. Winter's Chill stacks and so the more times you hit, the more crit chance you have, especially if you're frozen in place...

Hmm, less than level 50 means he wasn't using a Supreme Power flask... but he could maybe have got his hands on stuff like Elixir of Frost Power, [brilliant] Wizard Oil and/or [Greater] Arcane Elixir. Bit more expensive if you die, but when you can put out numbers like that in 40-49 BGs you kinda increase your chances of surviving encounters.

Small derail here. Why on earth do you have points in Winter's Chill at level 45?
