I also have this little thing which alerts me when an enemy is about to cast a spell near me but that's aboot it I think.

That's a new thing included in the UI for everyone now isn't it?

I have a ton of stuff, but I'm taking this opportunity to delete the lot and start again I think.

Common sense tells me I should try and sort them out now but idiocy tells me to wait till tomorrow and see which ones break before I bother.

The changes to LUA are widespread, mods which don't do anything they are 'banning' still seem to be breaking.

Even a mod I use which puts a simple menu on a minimap button breaks - so badly as to require an Alt-F4 to get out of the game!!!!!!

A tip if I may - copy your c:\wow\wtf\account\YOURACCOUNT folder (just Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V it on Windows to make a "Copy of YOURACCOUNT" folder) - this saves all your settings and saved data - this may be handy later, believe me.

Once the servers are back - remember to goto the Mods page and "Load out-of-date mods" - otherwise settings will get lost when you login and they all go tits-up...

My personal approach to this is going to be to rebuild my UI 1 piece at a time.

I'll disable everything I don't need and start with just my buttonbars - then unit frames, then fubar, autobar, buffbar etc. etc.

Once that's all working I'll add the other mods back-in one-at-a-time so long as they don't bork things - otherwise they'll stay disabled until everyone else debugs them for me

But then i don't raid no-more so I'm not under pressure to get these things working.

I do, however, have so many chars to re-talent that I'm having a mild panic-attack... :)

I do, however, have so many chars to re-talent that I'm having a mild panic-attack... :D

I hear that. Having 1 character of each class at level 40 seemed like a good idea at the time but now that I have to respec each one to something good and buy back all the skills I've lost, I'm sorta overwhelmed.

Thanks for the suggestions on t'addons. I'll probably follow your idea and load on the new ones piece by piece.

I've decided that the ONLY way I can deal with the talents is to take one char at a time...

This means my random logging of chars for a bit of random PvP or PvE or whatever has to end!! (I've PvPed as a Paladin, Druid, Shaman and Mage today too!!) :(

My initial feeling is to ignore my Hunter until other people have worked-out the wrinkles and checked out the talents - I want a PIMP PvP build for him anyway so...

My Warlock - hmmm - I'd like more feedback on the talents for PvP too - as he's spent a lot on respecs recently so I can't be fucking about trying things.

My Mage (49) WILL be Frost, so the only question is whether I sacrifice some things to plunge-down to the Elemental or just go back to my 'pimped out' Frost as-before really - guess the Ele is worth a peek

My low-levels/twinks will prob. only have 1 sensible build - the other 60s (Warrior, Rogue) can wait as there's nowt to do with them anyway.

Priests? I can't actually log ANY of my priests (I have 3 :D ) without being spammed with requests to goto places - I get them in BGs, instances - everywhere - it drives me fucking nuts - is there a talent to stop this? :D

Or just politely say "No thanks" like I do. Still get a few people whispering me to help them do this or that, more-so on my Paladin than on my Shaman oddly, but it only takes like 5 seconds to type "No thanks"

I do that - but when you get your 20th whisper in 10 mins - often from the same person you declined 3 mins earlier - it gets a bit much...

I had one guy ask me to help him - I said I was PvPing - he asked AGAIN 2 mins later - I thought 'eh' - he continued to ask every 2 mins until I put him in /ignore - this is a bad case but not untypical.

It's one thing to bug me when I'm in Orgrimmar or whatever - but asking me if I want to do ST when I'm in an instance or BG already is like 'WTF!' territory...

It genuinely makes me play other classes!!

That said - I can't stand-still as any Level 60 in ANY city without someone asking me to run them thru RFC or SFK or SM or whatever either.

Begining to think the /who tool needs nerfing - would stop the WALL of spam I get too (I think I got around 30 goldseller whispers today alone - on EVERY char I played - worst on horde-side too, oddly)...

If this new LFG tool is any good - I think we should suggest a /who nerf :D

Whenever I get whispered to join an instance I usually say I 'm about to log (which is usually true) however thats probably a better way to stop them asking again than saying you're PvPing

I hink I might use this oportunity to completely redo my addons. Played my SHaman again last night an the UI is a fucking mess on him. This is as good a time as nay to sort it out

If it's the same as on the test realm, that won't really help. AddOns that have been updated won't be out of date, while AddOns without the version number 20000 can not be loaded in any way. (You see them on the AddOns load screen, but the game just won't let you try them out.)

There is a way to get around this, by going into the addon's folder, selecting addonname.toc and changing the Interface number (top line on most) to 20000 from 12000 or whatever it was before. But the LUA changes are so comprehensive that it's probably simpler to just download an updated version of the addon to start with.

Only one I got to work on the test realm by doing that was ClearFont - which doesn't really make any changes in the game itself.

Oh - and whispers - I tend to just say "Sorry, I can't" if I don't want to do whatever it is they want. But I did have an addon once that blocked whispers from people I didn't know. You could see if something similar still exists, and just enable it when you don't want to be bothered by anyone.

Here we go...

Thought I'd best check my Downloader before heading off to work and there's ANOTHER 697MB to be downloaded, wee...

Are you sure about that? My downloader reset to 0MB downloaded from 697MB when I attempted to log in this morning, but very quickly streamed in the whole patch a couple of minutes later. Maybe you'd left by that point.

Anyways - on a more pressing note - what are you doing with points in Winter's Chill at level 45?

I get whispers all the time about joining for instances, usually when I'm in one. I got whispered just before the pull for our first Nef kill about going to UBRS, get whispered when I'm in Naxx. Drives me insane. Do people not bloody check where people are?

Are you sure about that?

No. :(

I checked my directory etc, and I had Wow-partial 3 now and such, and the biggest file in that dir was ~1000MB or so. But this was all downloaded through uTorrent rather than Blizzard Downloader, so maybe I confused the poor thing by doing it that way. Still, it seemed to predict about a 2 hour download which is nothing too painful - it's got 8 hours till I start getting restless. :(

what are you doing with points in Winter's Chill at level 45?

Why not? I like crits! :D I only have a few points in it anyway :( Bear in mind I have 5 days /played compared to your 500  But I get a 56% chance to crit on frozen targets from my talents which is nice... spamming frostbolts, the effect does stack a fair bit.

I'm specced something like http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classe...153233102151031 this at the moment, and I wasn't too fussed about the latest points. I was intending to put my last 10 points, from level 50 onward, into arcane, since I just love the frost tree so much. But hey free respec today and it's all going nuts so what would you suggest, with 37 points (about to ding 46 :()

Maybe this? http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classe...310215013001020 Going for Improved Cone of Cold instead and then there's the Frostbolt crit talent at the bottom which is <3. I'm a bit greedy though - more crits always seems more exciting than less resists. I'm just not sure how much the Elemental Precision talent would actually work, mobs that are much higher will always resist a lot and ones my level are just easy :D

Sounds like things are well and truly fucked. Ignite is broken, pets are being summoned at mid-health/mana, bank slots and items vanishing, the 6 second Crusader Strike is in (enjoy your month of awesomeness, Paladins!), the restriction on Shaman/Paladin loot on the tables for the two factions have been lifted (imagine those guilds working on their first Ragnaros kill or something and getting two Paladin T2 legs, that'll be nice for them) and a dozen more things beside.

On a happier note, you can start gaining reputation with the Blood Elves and Draenei, which is something at least.

I got to Friendly with the Blood Elves in about two evenings on the PTR, it's pretty trivial and seems to indicate the new rep gains will be live when the realms come up. Some (possibly most or even all) of the quests also award rep for all Horde factions, which is nice.

I suspect that even normal Horde faction questing, ignoring the new BE quests, will get you Friendly or higher before the expansion hits.

Elemental Precision is a must-have in any Frost build - everything will resist some frost spells, with 3 points in EP most resists become a bit of a thing of the past on 'same level' targets - and even 2-3 levels above suddenly become fairly-easy kills.

If you have a frost wand, just compare the resists you get from that to your spells when you have 3 points in EP (as wands aren't covered by EP)...

Winters Chill is useless for soloing really - as you're never going to get it stacking much - I kill most anything with 2-3 Frostbolts (one of which is pretty-much always a crit anyway) so that's a total waste of points unless you're gonna raid/do a LOT of 5 man stuff...

Imp C.o.C. is good - CoC is a decent DPS spell anyway but it gets next-to-nothing from +spell/frost so any improvement is a good use of points - FAR better than Winters Chill which you'll seldom see benefit from tbh...

I'm 49 and have EVERY frost talent except Warding, Imp Blizzard and Winters Chill

As for the new trees - there's nothing on Frost which really looks amazing - I'll probably try the Elemental at 50 - but I'm not expecting anything amazing.

Fire looks more 'buffed' tbh - and 'Slow' looks amazing but you'd have to be smoking something BAD to go 41 pts in Arcane :D

I'm glad you posted all this - saved me the bother, and is a good summary of everything I've taught you in recent months... :D

Try this spec at level 46, Kay. Then you can complete the 3/3 in Frost Channeling and move on to the empowered frostbolts. The problem with empowered frostbolts at 46 is that you (probably) don't have much +damage gear to take advantage of that part of the talent, and extra +crit % isn't such a big deal with frostbite and shatter anyway.

I'm looking forward to Spell Steal now. Sure, you can get some ropey buffs in PvP if you're unlucky, but some absolute belters in PvE. Some mobs in one of the new instances have an AoE pulse which does small damage per tick... until a mage steals it, at which point it scales with +damage gear and ticks for 500+ non-crit. Sounds fun. Giev!

And yeah, the fire tree is the way forward for raiding. I'll be 2/46/3 if and when the servers ever come back.

Problem is, it's really not. I can think of no reason to advise any mage to take it as it is right now.

This is the conclusion I posted on our guild forums after trying several specs on PTR:

As things stand, if you take Slow you only have 10 points to spend on a secondary tree for your primary nuke. (You cannot, even with the changes to the tree, consider Arcane Missiles a viable primary attack.) There are still more points in the arcane tree where you will have to select filler talents than in the other trees, and I didn't find Slow really worth it as a 41 point talent (in my hands, at least). Priests and paladins can cleanse it^ (although you *are* forcing them to do so, they use less mana to dispel than you do to apply it) and although it can be used to delay an approaching rogue or warrior, it does nothing to slow their attacks once they have reached you. In group PvP they will probably be dispelled anyway. For PvE, you can get a better kiting spec with frost and a better nuke-before-they-get-you spec with fire.

^ I believe on the PTR build when I tried it, it was still increasing casting times. That may or may not be the version that goes live - if not, it's even more worthless than before.

And as you say, putting 41 points in Arcane just to get Slow leaves you with very few options elsewhere.

40/0/21 might be viable at 70. Not sure without testing, of course.

Did you happen to try the spec (2/46/3) I linked above?
