Wii Friend Codes

I don't really understand how this all works. So if I add someone from that list, will it tell them i've added them? And how will they know its me who added them?

Or do people have to add each other for them to be on each others system etc?

I love my Wii as much as the next man but to be honest the whole code system is shit compared to what i've got used to on Xbox Live. A bit of a step back.

It stinks, basically, but there you have it. Once you and person X have entered each other's codes their name should change from grey to black in your address book, and then you can send them Miis and photos and poems and that. It's not instant, so I don't know when it actually happens - maybe overnight or something. They'll get no notification that you've added them at all. If you were given the brief to design an online social networking system that makes Xbox Live look especially fantastic, you'd probably end up with something like this. On the plus side once you've got a friend set up you can some interesting things, such as send them photos or doodles using an SD card rather than needing an Xbox camera, and of course trade Miis. You can't play online with them yet, of course, which is kind of a feather in Microsoft's cap at this moment in time.

Is this approach more culturally acceptable in Japan, I wonder? Do they memorise their Wii code, add it to their business cards and get it tattooed on their thighs, that kind of thing?

Bloody hell and I thought it was just me thinking it was shit! Why in gods name they designed it this way is a total mystery and renders the whole thing nearly useless. It's like they almost made it as difficult to use a possible, maybe thats a security feature. :(

It also stops anything unsolicited being sent to you. That's why it's so draconian. Well, at least it seems draconian. I quite like it this way. My only criticism is that there is no auto-association between Miis and Address Book contacts.

Also, I have a request - if you've added me to your Address Book could you please PM me and tell me what your Mii is called? I now have an absolute load of Miis wondering around, and only a few I am able to allocate to names in my Address Book. Please everyone - if you name your Mii something different to your forum name, then please put your forum name in the Mii Creator field when creating your Mii!!
