Burnout Dominator

Haven't seen this posted yet.

From Eurogamer:

Electronic Arts has unveiled Burnout Dominator for PlayStation 2 and PSP, due out in 2007.

That's in addition, obviously, to Burnout 5, which is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

"The series was born on the PlayStation 2, and Burnout Dominator is about celebrating the essence of Burnout," said Nick Channon, senior producer.

"Burnout Dominator focuses on the reckless skill-based racing and fear of crashing that fuelled the first games."

And that's pretty much all we know, other than it's currently underway at EA UK in Guildford.

So there's no word on whether the two will link up via USB or anything like that, or even much about what to expect - other than Burnout's trademark intensely destructive racing action.

More soon, hopefully.

Sounds like a Burnout Legends sequel really, to satisfy those of us yet to upgrade to next generation consoles. Which is all well and good, but where's the usual superior Xbox version with the all-important custom soundtrack option? Xbox still has shelf-space in all the game shops I've been to recently.

And how come no version for the Wii? Could be easy money for Criterion.

Good.

All developers should hop over to the 360 and deliver the goods there. Who wants another last-gen Burnout Remix when we can get a proper shiny new one in full glory?

I don't see why the death of a format is ever something to be celebrated, to be honest. If nothing else the total lack of support for the Xbox after the 360 launched doesn't bode well for the 360's own lifespan. And we aren't talking about shifting everything to next gen here, anyway. This is a game that has been made for the PS2 and PSP anyway.

Plus, this:

"Burnout Dominator focuses on the reckless skill-based racing and fear of crashing that fuelled the first games."

kind of suggests it might actually be good, in contrast to BO 3 and 4, and therefore it might have been nice to see it appear on a console with a decent controller.

Who would have thought a press release would suggest it might actually be good?

I thought I really liked Burnout 3.

But eventually, I re-brought Burnout 2, definately my favourite of the series.

The Press Release actually makes it sound like Dominator is being developed by EA Guildford, not by Criterion, perhaps it is the Shox! team.

.::: Let's hope so! Now there's a game that deserved a sequel to tweak the gameplay but never got the chance. :)

Well that's what happens when you support Microsoft, what with them being bastards and all. If the PS3 sells better than the 360 you can pretty much guarentee them doing the same thing in a few years and forcing the next gen early again and sooner or later MS customers are bound to get pissed off with the lack of continued support for consoles they either forked out a huge amount for or have only had for five minutes.

You can sort of understand Microsoft wanting to kill off the Xbox as quickly as they could. Up until the last day of production it was still costing them a fortune due to licensing costs with Nvidia.

Microsoft still pay licensing cost to Nvidia with the Xbox360 due to the backward compatibility to xbox.

Nvidia FTW, easy money.

No - Microsoft pay licensing on every 360 harddrive sold, which is probably one reason why it costs so much, and why they made the Core pack.

Some screens

So nothing like Burnout 2 then :(

If they get rid of the traffic checking, then this is a definite purchase – much as I enjoyed Burnout 3 & 4, the checking in B4 made it way too easy. Ploughing through traffic was nowhere near as exciting as avoiding it.

It really gets on my nerves just how obsessed this industry - both developer and consumer sides - with the 'latest big thing'. So sales have been dropping? It's not difficult to see why when publishers completely jump ship from current to next-gen development without regard for the millions of Xbox1 owners out there. They don't just go away.

Release some new, decent games for Xbox, market them, give them shelf space, and I'm sure they'll sell. Burnout Dominator certainly would've, as would've Pro Evo 6, and many others. It's the publishers, with their big next-gen marketing push that tell the consumers Xbox no longer represents a viable platform, not the other way around. Some of us are perfectly happy with our so called out-of-date machines. We just wish they would give us something good to play on them.

I didn't think this was true, but it turns out it is. (So why the buggery hells is the BC so crap?)

I would imagine though, that this cost is a vastly reduced figure when compared to the costs for licensing the Xbox GPU and Chipset.

Although there are no Nvidia hardware in the Xbox360, when you put in a Xbox game, and the game makes certain specific Nvidia graphics call or functions, it is that bit where Nvidia get their royalties from.

Although Nvidia gets far less for this compared to the original xbox, it is still FREE money in my book.

BC is shit because the translation is still done in software.

please correct me if I am wrong.

I would say the pics are genuine.

Burnout Revenge looked pretty amazing in 480p as did Black.

Another iteration of the Renderware engine should be able to squeeze the last drops of power out of the PS2.

Stuff like this and God of War 2, will really demonstrate what can be achieved if developers are give enough time to learn all the tricks of the hardware.

Black still amazes me today, even Gears of War lacked the environmental interaction Black had, it was really disappointing that you couldn't shot out lights, and there are no bullet holes, this was something even Goldeneye had.

I've been playing my PS2 in 640x480 VGA mode for a long time now and it makes the picture even sharper than the component 480p feed.

Better hurry up and buy one then! :)

I read a quote from someone at Sony saying that we shouldn't expect to see the PS4 until at least 2010. For people that can't count, that's 3 years after the PS3 over here.

Obviously that quote doesn't mean the PS4 is planned for 2010, but it would have been more appropriate to say something like 'no PS4 before 2012' or whatever.

Hey, I wasn't saying that Sony aren't bastards too, but they're a hell of a lot better at getting continued support for their HW after the next gen starts and the Xbox was available for a lot less time than the PS2 anyways.

You all suck. I cant believe not a single Burnout aficionado noticed the only important thing in those screenshots:

Burnout chains are back! That means a proper boost system again \o/ Is this being made by Criterion though? Doesnt sound like it from that press release :/
