The new Arcade Fire album will be called 'Neon Bible'

Yeah, I'm finding it a little bit dull as well. The main reason Funeral was such an out and out classic for me was how completely alive it sounded all the time. Neon Bible doesn't really achieve that. It lacks the shout-out-loud joy of the last album in many places and relies too much on repetition without really going anywhere. The new version of No Cars Go is a stunner though

Also, the quality is mostly absolutely fine, the whole "Quality is poor" is just standard FUD to stop downloaders.

I dunno, if it's not on oink, then it can't be that great a leak. I've ruined enough album listening experiences by downloading poor quality early leaks, early mixes or unmastered tracks, so I'm quite happy to wait until the real deal is out and about. Although all these comments are a little disappointing. I really thought The Arcade Fire would be one of those bands who could break the sophomore slump.

Oink is a little bit gay with their policy though. The quality could be better of course, just like playing the actual CD on a £1m stereo would make stuff sound a hell of a lot better than the 192 V0 releases on oink, but it's still very much listenable.

However, I've never really been much of a pretentious audiophile so...

I downloaded No Cars Go and then ended up downloading the rest of it.

Massive disappointment. What's all this boring shite? The initial excitement from hearing No Cars Go (which I only remember as being some dull tune on the EP, fantastic transformation) wore off when it became apparent when that was the best song on the album, along with Black Wave/Bad Vibrations. The rest just leaves me underwhelmed.

So, the first big letdown of 2007.

And here's me really fucking liking it.

Thank God somebody does! This topic has so far ruined my week.

Guys: are we talking an actual rubbish album here, or the possibility that the leaked version is of lower quality or unfinished when compared to the final retail version?

It's not a rubbish album, it's a fairly good one, like 3/5 or something. As I said before, the leaked stuff is all FUD.

An actual rubbish album. Nothing to do with the sound quality. Song quality.

Actually, saying 'rubbish' is unfair, it's not rubbish. It's just very average. Too many songs of Win just warbling over some uninteresting backing track. There was so much energy and passion on the first album, where did it all go?

It's frustrating, because the songs that do get it right are really good. It's just that there's only a couple of them.

Yeah... this is only ok. It doesnt live up to Funeral.

Modest Mouse are the only 2004 indie darlings left that haven't dropped a dodgy follow-up album. Here's hoping they don't fuck it up...

they have a good back catalogue at least! And they have marr on this album, and a Liars-esque album title, how can they fail?!

I still haven't listened to the leak. I'm going to reserve judgement for the album in the shops. because I'm scared. so scared.

Agreed! I really like Black Wave/Bad Vibrations though.

What's with all the negativity? I really like this album, so maybe it isn't quite as good as Funeral, but it would have to have been pretty damn amazing to beat that. Neon Bible has some really really good songs on it: No Cars Go and Keep The Car Running are my favourites but some of the others are pretty decent as well (Black Wave/Bad Vibrations, Ocean of something or other).

I'm looking forward to hearing decent quality version - I can't imagine what No Cars Go is gonna sound like.

Anyway, thumbs up from me. <_<

I really really like (Antichrist Television Blues).

I think the album is really good. Nothing like Funeral of course, but I still listen to Funeral and think it's amazing - it's sort of on a different level. But just as music, Neon Bible is really good, affecting, sincere, authentic. I like it a lot and I keep liking it more as I listen to it more. I guess in a few weeks I'll get bored of it, and it won't have the 'classic' status of Funeral, but it makes me feel good about Arcade Fire in general. They're going to release lots more great albums I reckon.

So good you don't remember the name of the song.

Wasn't expecting it to be better than Funeral, but at least up to the standard. I like a band with quality control. That's what seperates the best from the rest.

Okay, I've just had my first listen, and I have to say I quite enjoyed it, nowhere near as bad as some people were saying. It's no Funeral that's for sure, but it's got some really great songs on there and is definitely a solid efford. I particularly liked 'Ocean of Violence' and 'The Well and the Lighthouse'.

The only song I really didn't like on there was 'Windowstill' it just seemed a tad too cheesy. At points I thought it sounded like that Aerosmith Armageddon song.

The new 'No Cars Go' is a pretty good rerecording, the strings and harmonies are sharper, more pronounced, vibrant. The speed's closer to how they played it live the last time I saw them too. The new choir and the lines 'WOMEN AND CHILDREN - LET'S GO! and 'WHERE WE KNO-OH-OOOHW! are a tad cheesy though. Maybe a bit too overblown? I suppose it's supposed to be though.

I hardly ever remember the names of songs..... Ocean of ???? is a pretty damn good for me.

IMO it would have been difficult for the Fire to touch Funeral... from what I've read, that album was born of a load of bad stuff that was going on in the band members lives at the time. I can understand why this album doesn't feel as 'special' - but that still doesn't mean it's bad.

I'm quite glad they ditched the indie-disco sounds from the first album, they probably would've sounded a bit tired on this record. Rather than rely on disco hi-hats and yelps, they've opted to let the songwriting stand by itself, the songs are a bit more mature this time round. Except 'No Cars Go'. And 'Windowstill'. Anyway, It sort of sounds like they're trying to redefine their sound whilst trying to retain their core pallette, and for a 'difficult', perhaps 'transitional', second album, it's pretty good!

Basically, I like it!
