The new Arcade Fire album will be called 'Neon Bible'

The Neon Bible version is a re-recording of the track that was originally released on the Arcade Fire EP in 2003 (and then re-released in 2005).

The EP version is pretty good, but the new version sounds more amazing. I just don't know what a re-recording of an old song is doing amongst all this new material. Like I say, I'm sure there's a reason for it.

DiscoStu is actually like the people that prefer Kid A and Amnesiac to Ok Computer.

Hmm. Not sure what point you're trying to make there.

Anyway, the more I listen to Neon Bible the more surprised I am by the negative reactions it's getting. If you genuinely don't like it that's cool but it's as if some people were hoping they would re-record Funeral and just play it backwards.

Have to say I prefer the EP version of 'No Cars Go' by far... the 'Neon Bible' version is a bit overdone with its beefed-up strings and massive choir. The original has those great marching drums which are pushed way down in the new mix... and I kind of prefer it when it's clearly just the band themselves making all that noise at the end.

Production on 'Neon Bible' is definitely a step up from 'Funeral' though, and it's got some proper chills-down-the-spine moments, even if it all doesn't hang together quite as well.

'The Well and the Lighthouse' has been drilled in my head since I heard it...

Okay, I've not listened to 'Funeral' and I've just listened to 'Neon Bible' last night. I'm not sure I get it. It doesn't seem all that great and at times, horribly over produced. They seem to have thrown in every single instrument and sound they can think of into some songs until it just becomes this huge, fuzzy, indulgent mess. A lot of the tracks just grind out in an unimaginative fashion from A to B with nothing exciting inbetween. And I wanted to like it after the reviews I'd read.

I like it. It is very intricate, but hey, that's why I like it. If I wanted something more minimalist, I wouldn't be listening to The Arcade Fire. I like My Body Is A Cage, Windowsill and Intervention most at the mo. And the first 10 seconds of No Cars Go as well. Seems a very strong album so far, need to hear it on a decent stereo though.

There lies the problem.

Please explain this further. You're saying my enjoyment of a band's second album is impaired because I haven't heard their first? Aren't albums, on the whole, supposed to stand on their own two feet as unique pieces of work? Listening to a later Beatles album before listening to an earlier one doesn't make a jot of difference to their greatness.

I prefer it to Funeral at the moment. That's being slightly disingenuous though, because I still think Funeral is the better album - I'm just all caught up in the fresh, exciting newness of Neon Bible right now. I'm still listening to it and thinking it's amazing.

I got my special edition in the post the other day complete with a coaster, sticker, poster, and 2 flip books...

... mmmm flip books.

Not bad for under a tenner. Love the album too... roll on Glastonbury.

what?! I got the flip books, the album inlay, and the cd and that's it! no sticker, poster or coaster. :P

unless you mean to say that the CD is only worth having as a coaster...

I got mine through Merge for about £9.

The smaller flip book is of the neon bible and it flips through the pages in sequence, much like the hologram on the front.

The slightly bigger one is of some synchronised swimmers falling back into the water and making a splash. Not sure if it's from a video, I haven't seen it.

I can't really say if it's worth the extra money, I like the flip books, but most would be disapointed by them, and the poster isn't great either, but I like having extra little things.

Must be as I got it through the record label... they were 'merge' sticker and coaster... poster was Neon Bible though.

Sorry dude, I would say that the coaster was rubbish, but I like the design and stuck it on my wall.

I'd like to retract my earlier statement of saying this was a bit rubbish. I've been listening to this constantly and it's really grown on me to the point where I bloody love it now. My trouble is I often make rash decisions about albums after only one listen.

If they'd cut Black Mirror, Intervention and Oceans of Noise, and just started the album with a rerecorded Headlights Like Diamonds then even though the album would feature two rerecordings it would've been a hell of a lot better.

Those adoring this album need to go back and listen to Funeral. It's as if none of you realise what made the band great in the first place...

The first half of Neon Bible sounds like a b-side compilation by comparison.

I find your comment about going back and listening to Funeral a little patronising. Why can't you just accept that people are really loving this album for what it is?

I love Funeral as much as the next person but you can't keep on comparing it.

If they'd have cut Black Mirror, Intervention and Oceans of Noise I would be mightily pissed off as I think they're all great tunes, especially Intervention.

I think all of those three songs are fantastic. Black Mirror is an excellent opener.

I have. It's a good record. This one is better.
