Well, they're still there on Play. Amazingly, clicking on the Wii Console offers link shows that they still have no Wiis in stock at Play. A fact I find amazing. Is it still selling out everywhere?

Game online and Gameplay both had them in stock for a short while yesterday but they sold out in no time.

Amazon still has PS3 available for pre-order. Is this still for launch day?

Well they've switched ordering on again after having it on from 1pm to 5.30ish yesterday and then turning it off. So I'm not sure what they're doing really. I think it's probably still for the first batch though

Interesting snippet from someone claiming to be an Amazon employee (found on another forum):

"Hello, I work at for Amazon and we had 37,000 units allocated to us by Sony Europe, in comparison with 1,000 Wii’s. I cannot tell you the 360 numbers because I wasn’t working there at the time and no one I ask seems to know."

They had more than a thousand Wiis - I'm sure I read a press release after the launch saying that Amazon had dealt with 10,000 customers.

The 37,000 number seems a bit dubious too, come to think of it. 1/6 of the UK units sold at Amazon?

Ah, if only there were a way to rig up computers so that when brain-dead fanboys try to use them to spread FUD they receive a lethal electric shock...

Edit: Then again, 10,000 Wiis (mentioned above) seems equally dubious - weren't there 50,000 sold on launch day? 20% of those being through Amazon seems unlikely in the extreme. I'd imagine most of the 10,000 customers Amazon dealt with they dealt with by saying "Mwahahaha! We know you want a Wii but there are none left! Should have got here earlier, shouldn't you?"

I reckon that 10,000 number was Europe-wide, but you'e right, it does seem possibly a bit high.

Bah, I signed up to be e-mailed by Amazon when the pre-orders were available, at both my work and e-mail addresses.

Did I get an e-mail? Of course not..

Didn't you get several emails before the pre-orders started telling you when the pre-orders were going to start?

If not, then it's clearly a personal thing.

Still they havent sold out. Preorder button has been turned off again till Monday. Quite why they only seem to want to take orders between 9-5 is a little bizarre for an online retailer.

The only thing I could think of is maybe they believe when the PS3 is available it creates a higher volume of website traffic and want that traffic only to occur during office hours, when i presume there are more support staff. Thats purely a guess, first time I have seen anything like that online.

They probably have staff checking each order for ebay like shenanigans.

I'm certain that you're right traffic wise though, which probably helped twist their arms into doing it.

Amazon orders open again. Are these actually gonna be available on launch day?

I seem to remember reading that they were only going to pre-sell the machines they'd been promised by Sony for launch day. Or perhaps I dreamt it. Anyway, if that's the case then either (a) they've been promised a LOT of PS3s, (b ) they aren't selling very quickly, or (c ) they're lying.

You are right that is what Amazon do with their console launches now. Only sell what they have been guaranteed so they haven't sold their initial allocation. I am just struggling to believe that these may be sitting on shop shelves on launch day. Surely not?
