you could quite easily get the impression that sony are struggling to get the game to look half decent (or anywhere near their E3 trailer) - if you were cynically minded, like.

Killzone MIA at GDC

by Jeremy Dunham

US, February 7, 2007 - Throughout the day, European websites have reported that Sony's highly-anticipated shooter, Killzone, is slated for a surprise debut at the 2007 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Though specific sources weren't named, several high profile publications have printed the story and the Internet is ablaze with speculation.

With news that big, we wanted to get an official comment straight from the horse's mouth...

"No, Killzone won't be GDC at all," stated SCEA Manager, Ryan Bowling, in a conversation with IGN held earlier this afternoon. "The time for that game is coming and we'll have new information about it in the future, but not at GDC."

The news of Killzone's GDC absence only extends an already-long deficiency in information about the title that spans back as far as E3 2005, when the game was first announced. Developed by Guerilla Games, the upcoming first-person shooter was the talk of the town almost two years ago when its rendered target trailer wowed viewers with highly-detailed wartime action.

GDC will kick off March 5 through 9.

I picked up Killzone a year or ago for £10 and thought it was pretty good. Long as well, lasting about thirty hours. Ok so it wasn't the Halo beater but then again not a lot is. In terms of 'weight' and sound of guns, atmosphere, and even some locations I thought it was a solid FPS......it's just that the AI was naff.

TBH I don't think anyone's questioning the fact Killzone was solid enough FPS. The big problem it had (and the one KZ2 is having) is that as usual Sony couldn't just sell the game on what it did well but had to try and make it out to be something it wasn't.

The KZ2 renders set the bar so high that anything less will now be seen as a disappointment no matter how good the actual gameplay may turn out to be.

There's your answer right there. :D

Not that Sony ever overhyped the original Killzone :D

.::: To be fair: Sony didn't. One slightly misinterpreted EDGE-cover caused that. After that cover everybody spoke of the Halo-killer. Which might have been just as good a name as they dropped the initial moniker Kin.

Anyone who expected Killzone 2 news at DICE is frankly delusional. Either it doesn't deliver, in which case it'll be hidden away as long as possible, or it does deliver and it won't be wasted by releasing the first news since the original announcement at a Q&A session at a developer summit. Feel free to bitch about it if it doesn't get shown and look impressive at E3.

Hmm...this could be shaping up to be something really special.

Its missed all the big shows and is claimed to be the most expensive game ever developed. Certainly not a vote swinger for me at this stage - but its really odd its missed all the shows.

I really can't believe it'll be the failure they think it is. I think Sony are just keeping it very quite.

Its a bit of a "last hope saloon" for them methinks - so you can understand why their keeping it under wraps.

is there the vaguest possiblity that it isn't up to scratch yet - and will do sony's creditibility EVEN more damage?

i want to play a game that looks as good as killzone 2. i just don't think i will be able to, until the NEXT, next gen

No, not really.

Perhaps massive damage, even.

It's possible now. It's not a technology issue, just one of work and talent and scripting. The graphics themselves are perfectly achievable.

I'd still say the level of facial animation/scripted sequences would be too high for the PS3's 256MB of RAM.

256MB? That's rubbish. I don't know where you heard that.

It's got 50 million picoflops of GDDRX:RAM. Facial animation should be a piece of piss.
