Killzone 2

I don't know if this was posted earlier but here's the Edge Killzone 2 review.

http://www.edge-online.com/magazine/killzo...dict?page=0%2C0

Don't forget to read the comments. They're interesting.

Not really, they're the typical hysteria that shrouds this game whenever somebody says something negative about it.

I mean look at this article where some random Playstation website starts slating the Edge review and saying their opinion is wrong and everyone should ignore it and they're just trying to get attention:

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/4586.html

One of my favourite bits from the comments section:

most of the Edge staff own mostly 360's and PC's. thats not me being a fanboy, that is the truth.

 I'll be glad when the fucking game is out and people can revert to not being completely retarded.

It's true though, isn't it? I don't even write for Edge and own or have owned a PC and 360  Who doesn't Apart from non-gamers. I'm not quite sure what his point is.

Blimey.

The demo clicked last night. Like, properly clicked. I put the sensitivity options up one notch each, which may have helped, but I don't really know why last night it clicked when it hadn't before. But I loved it. I was using tactics, taking headshots, spraying fire for control purposes, using grenades to flush enemies out of hiding and everything just worked.

Immensely fun and satisfying fights, like nothing I'd ever had before. The only comparison I can really think of is Halo. Which, from me, is high praise indeed. But it may - may - even have felt... better. Maybe.

Seriously, I was astounded by how much I enjoyed myself.

I need to play the demo again, to see if the fun has stuck, or if this was some crazy aberration.

But, no, somehow I found an incredible game in what had previously been a standard shooter with awful controls.

No idea what happened there, no idea at all.

What I don't get, is the hysteria around the Edge review, and why people tout this as the 2nd coming for gaming. I know it was always going to be an important game for the PS3, as it is still lacking triple A exclusives, but come on, there's next to nothing unique about Killzone 2. "It's a technical masterpiece, yet it's only pushing the PS3 at 60% of its capacity" say some, but still it's a game bugged with invisible walls, cramped sections, led-by-hand lvl design etc

Why do people defend this game so desperately? I'm not complaining at posters on here, it's more a nod in the direction of the posters who reply to the Edge review over at the Edge site, and that PSX extreme site. And what's the deal with "7 is a shit score". What scale are these guys using? Last time I checked, 7 is a pretty good score.

From watching the demo, it seems to be the same dodgy dialogue/acting that was in a preview a few months back when GG said it was 'just placeholder'.

Shame that they didn't replace it, maybe it was a time issue?

Time issue?! I hope you were being ironic... <_<

What does the multiplayer consist of ? Isn't everywhere saying that the multi is great.* Is it the usual modes or does this bring something new to the online mutliplayer table ?

COD4's single player wasn't anything better than a 7 but the mutliplayer is a 10 in my book, maybe KZ2 is the same. Is KZ2's multiplayer a 10 ?

*I know IGN said these very words but then neglected to give any details. Maybe thery're just saying it's great without actually playing the MP?

The Edge review's quite scant on detail, but says it cribs from the best: Halo3's lobby system and CoD4's perks / advancement / RPG-lite upgrade system.

1up have given it top marks (A)

1up Review

Shooters have replaced fighting games as the most over-saturated genre in gaming today, and it's increasingly difficult to stand out from the crowd. However, with its unparalleled graphics, incredibly well-paced single-player campaign and in-depth multiplayer offerings, Killzone 2 has established its place among top-tier console shooters. Expectations on Killzone 2 had reached ridiculous proportions; here's one of those cases where the game actually lived up to them.

I've played the full game, Rex.

It's solid but unremarkable.

Some might love it. Some might get bored. It's weird there's so much fuss. It doesn't merit any fuss. It's obvious that the relative failure of the PS3 is fuelling some crazy talk on both sides of the argument.

Maybe I should play it again. Maybe it gets better with more play.

I didn't even know it was being built up in such a way.

To me it was a relatively low-key release. A sequel to a panned PS2 game. Why were expectations so high?

What does the multiplayer consist of ?

The meat of the multiplayer is Warzone, a game for up to 32 players that changes objectives on the fly: it might start off with Killcount (Team Deathmatch) and then once the score limit has been reached the winning team will gain a point and the next round will start, although it will be Assassination, Search and Destroy, or the CTF variant instead. You aren't taken out of the action at any point — unless you die, obviously — and it's quite cool just having the game types blend into one another instead of going through them sequentially on a playlist.

As you play you gain XP and rank up, and as you gain ranks you earn Badges, which essentially allow you access to the different classes. Whilst playing as the different classes you can earn ribbons based around their special abilities, such as by reviving 5 players in a round as a Medic, which will unlock their secondary abilities. After reaching another set of requirements you're able to mix and match class abilities to a certain extent, so for instance you could be a Sniper that can also set up turrets. This chart shows character progression, if you're after something a bit more in-depth.

Thats it, I give up on edge. Seriously I've been playing Resistance 2 that I picked up on the cheap and been having a blast with it. Its not a AAA but its a solid game and I'm enjoying it so far.

Then I wondered what it got in edge so I had a little look online.

6/10. One point higher than Haze? But thats a pile of steaming shit that deserves its bargain bin fate.

Killzone 2 would seem to have fallen into the same trap. Its a solid game from its demo but does nothing remarkable. Its not a AAA title tahts for sure Still preordering it so I will now wait and give it the benefit of the doubt
