Killzone 2

Thats it, I give up on edge. Seriously I've been playing Resistance 2 that I picked up on the cheap and been having a blast with it. Its not a AAA but its a solid game and I'm enjoying it so far.

Then I wondered what it got in edge so I had a little look online.

6/10. One point higher than Haze? But thats a pile of steaming shit that deserves its bargain bin fate.

Killzone 2 would seem to have fallen into the same trap. Its a solid game from its demo but does nothing remarkable. Its not a AAA title tahts for sure Still preordering it so I will now wait and give it the benefit of the doubt

You're giving up on it because of some scores?

They gave one of my favourite PC games ever a 6, didn't stop me from enjoying the mag afterwards.

You're giving up on a magazine because you disagree with one review score, and are suspect of another, having not played the full game?

.::: How is something solid not a 7/10? Every day it becomes more clear why Metacritic moved their relative scale of good and bad exclusively for videogames.

No I think perhaps I'm just giving up on reviews on general I feel. Too many now seem to be cheap attacks, biased opinions or too eager to knock a game for not innovating. Edge was my rule stick and I respected their opinion but for KZ2 i'm just going to ignore their score

But you haven't played it? You might think 'Yep, a good game but I'd probably give it a high 7' after all when you're done?

edit: I can see why you'd not be bothered to consider review scores any more though.

Did they? Jesus. The average gamer is a massive spaz.

.::: Unfortunately, yes...

Q: Why is the breakdown of green, yellow, and red scores different for games?

The reason for this special treatment for games has to do with the games publications themselves. Virtually all of the publications we use as sources for game reviews (a) assign scores on a 0-100 scale (or equivalent) to their reviews, and (B) are very explicit about what those scores mean. And these publications are almost unanimous in indicating that scores below 50 indicate a negative review, while it usually takes a score in the upper 70s or higher to indicate that the game is unequivocally good. This is markedly different from film or music, where a score of, say, 3 stars out of 5 (which translates to a 60 out of 100 on our site) can still indicate that a movie is worth seeing or a CD is worth buying. Thus, we had to adjust our color-coding for games to account for the different meaning of games scores compared to scores for music and film.

Funny though, just how much drama there is around these things.

The internet is burning away nicely with the news of the Edge 7. It does seem that those who want Killzone to to get 10s across the board are disappointed not because they've made their own mind up about the game's quality without playing it, but because they want to wave a figure in 'rival' fans' faces; look metacritic says it's better so it IS, and vice-versa.

Madness :P

.::: We should give them rulers so they can use their genitals again instead of games.

On neogaf they were celebrating when the Killzone 2 thread had more views than the official Halo 3 thread.

And rottentomatoes, which deems everything under 80% to be a "miss". My handful of reviews look quite odd on there: "very good, worth playing - 7/10 [rottengreensplodge.gif]".

Stupid fucking industry. :P

Did you get the Resistance 2 promo thingy, Canton? That was lovely.

Yeah, that was really nice. I wish the game had been that inventive.

I've been spoilt now, though. I was expecting a flower-pressing kit for a certain forthcoming PSN title, and all I got was a lousy downloadable package file. It's tempered my expectations for Heavy Rain - I was holding out for Bowfinger on Blu-Ray, but I don't think that's going to happen now.
