Killzone 2

He'd only last 5 minutes on here though - rllmuk would leech his burning enthusiasm within minutes and reprogram him to save time and effort by sticking to a simple lolsony .

Yeah, I mean he's clearly got an abundance of spare time and passion for the game, but if you're going to slag him off, you may as well dismiss every fan web site out there. The vast majority of things we do to entertain ourselves could be analysed into nothingness, but as long as he and other people get something out of it, I dare say his time has been better spent than simply burying himself in an RPG for hours on end.

Yeah, what a loser!

(Notes Dude Ranch and Rex's post counts)

I think it's great to see enthusiasm for games. It's just like making fanzines in the old days, and at least with a forum post people will actually read it.

He's got more words on that page than Dude Ranch and I post in a year on Rllmuk.

If I had that much time I'd put it toward something worthwhile.

Shhhh.... don't tell smitty

I'm hugely passionate about games, you twonk.

You're having a pop because I expressed some doubts and criticisms of KZ2, as well as some excitement and interest, and didn't froth at the mouth in some sort of hype-frenzy.

It looks like Killzone 2 is going to have a fantastic launch then - its topping the pre-order charts at Play.com, Amazon.com and Game and is number two (to My fitness coach  ) at Amazon.co.uk. That said the pre-orders for SFIV and RE5 will be split between the 360 and PS3 and be artificially lower because of that - they'll obviously sell stonkingly too. Could be interesting to see which of the three (I'm ignoring My Fitness Coach here) will have the longer legs worldwide. I'm thinking it will probably be RE5 what with Japan an'all. SFIV is difficult to call.

I suspect everyone who wants Killzone 2 will buy it in the first week, much like with Resistance 2. This seems to happen with most hardcore titles bar Call of Duty 4. Even a massive seller like Gears 2 isn't even in the top 20 anymore. Hardcore titles just don't have the legs that a Mario Kart does. We have a giant wave of sales during the first week and then it fades into obscurity, forgotten for the next big thing.

Does top of the pre-order charts at Game mean anything more than Sony have paid them to make it look popular? I'm not saying it couldn't be there but there's been no advertising to the general public and don't Game like to sell chart places, at least in store anyway.

Perhaps not, but apparently the game's already gone platinum in Europe based on pre-orders, so I can't see the game doing too badly; there's supposed to be a big advertising campaign rolling out at some point, although who knows if that's even going to be pre-release. As you say the sales will drop off exponentially after a week or two, although I can see things picking up again when the PS3 gets its inevitable price cut in the run up to Christmas.

Why is this at all interesting? And why is it of interest to you?

Would it bother you if the game had the smallest launch ever? Would that bar your (almost guaranteed) orgasmic, frothy delight at playing it? Do you need some sort of validation for your purchase?

I'm genuinely curious. Why does it matter if it, or any game, gets a good launch? Especially in Killzone 2's case. It's not like if it doesn't sell, devs are gonna throw in the towel for any other FPSs they have in production, does it?

I don't think KZ2 will be as successful an evergreen title as Mario Kart (but then what is?), but I expect it's going to carry on selling. It's the game that most people picking up a PS3 (assuming even a passing interest in action games) are going to buy first, and I don't think it's going to be challenged in that spot for a good few months.

Jeepers the neogaf official thread has to be seen to be believed. Just the first page - more information than humanly possible See here

FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCKKKKKK

I just kept scrolling and scrolling and it kept going and going. This and the $850 eBay auctions are taking the fanboy hype so far beyond parody - even Halo 3 had nothing like this. What the fuck is it about this game? Are we going to have this madness for every PS3 exclusive FPS from now on? Every PS3 exclusive game?

Relax. They've done this before for some games on GAF. It's not just for KillZone 2.

Er... okay. I don't think it matters at all really - it won't affect me in the wider sense one iota either way but thats true of 99% of any discussion on the internet about any game ever. I just thought it was of interest on a killzone 2 thread that killzone 2 is doing well on the pre-order front. I don't need validation for my (pre) purchase of Killzone 2 or my PS3 (Valkyria Chronicles, MGS4 and to a lesser extent Uncharted plus blu-ray have already done that). And I have no idea whether I'm going to enjoy the killzone 2 let alone have a frothy orgasm over it. I have enjoyed the demo though and am impressed by the reviews i've read (and that includes Edge's).

What is this? The Spanish Inquisition?

Whilst nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition, I've always wondering how some people fail to see why it's important that games sell well and why some people get bothered by it.

Take Valkyria Chronicles for example. A game that everyone wishes had sold a lot more than it did. Sure the terrible sales don't effect that game existing but they could effect future game decisions within that company.

Sure that was never going to happen with Killzone 2 as it's the PS3's great white hope and every fanboy on GAF is buying 3 copies to ensure success but it does matter sometimes.

I'd agree with Beertiger. After that initial surge of rabid sales, this is going to drop off markedly, neither Sony or Guerrilla have managed to generate any cachet at all with this game it bar being a technical tour de force.

.::: SOCOM says hi.

iv had a pre release of this since friday and iv got to say its very enjoyable.

graphics have to be seen to be believed ..even on the online multiplayer the size and looks of the maps are quite stunning.

hard to find anyone on the servers though just now but when you do it is so so sweet to play.

warfare is the standard match type that has changing objectives after a certain amount of time has passed,

so you could be playing search and destroy one moment and after making a plant with the bomb and defending it till it blows suddenly the game type will change to say bodycount (team deathmatch), or assasin (someone picked randomly to be assasinated either kill or defend him), or the other mp gametypes that are standard like capture the bases deathmatch and the rest.

you can of course just opt to play any one of these seperately nut it really does work so well.

you can also just run around the maps to get used to them and stuff but unless you actually play a human oponent you wont get xp at the end of the match.

you nead to be at seargent rank to open up clan creation aswell.

also has a single button access to tournaments and clan matches,

and you can also split party up in to groups of 4 or whatever and choose who goes with who and stuff.

its all very well done.

havent tryed any perks out yet due to lack of people to play with though,

played a few bot matches and some of there perks are cool.

Don't know about anyone else but this sell it to me.
