footle
Whenever I see anyone saying THE AI IS AMAZING or THE AI IS SHIT I take it with a pinch of salt. Even back in the day when people would say about Halo THE AI IS AMAZING ON LEGENDARY I would go...yeah, but is it? I think people sometimes imagine behaviour to be better or worse than it actually is. Just to be clear, I think the enemy behaviour in Halo is wonderful. cf. Half Life's marines. The first time the smoke and mirrors made me think wtf? But that's what it was - smoke and mirrors. However, that particular set of smoke and mirrors waltzed happily over every other example of smoke-and-mirrors masquerading as "better" AI until Halo: they seemed to communicate, and they made the player *aware* they were seeming to communicate: which is half the battle, and something I'm surprised more games don't play on - there's only so many helghast hiding behind helpfully flagged red barrels and occasionally popping a shot over the bows that any one game can rely on. People imagining the behaviour to be more sophisticated than it is is what videogames AI is made of.
Taurus
What do you think of the multiplayer Taurus? Not played it.
therev
I'm still playing and thoroughly enjoying the demo. It's not got old for me yet. Which bodes well for the full game, which I guess I'm going to have to buy.
angel
Who's got the time to play an average yet beautiful game, that's my issue. I'd rather play something distinctive that a retread of the genre staples.
utopastac
That's how I feel about it, too. It's a poor man's Gears of War, and Gears of War was bad enough. Sorry to jump on this particular comment, but would you say that if you really dislike Gears of War then you probably won't like this? I really dislike Gear of War. I've played the demo of this a few times and now i'm not so sure. I just don't like the way it looks at all, and i'm finding it hard to get past that. I don't know why I buy FPS games at all, really, i've not liked any non-Halo one since Halo.

Count Buffalos
Arses. I thought GoW2 was very meh, the first slightly better. I enjoyed the KZ demo though, so go figure.

All I can say is that I thought GoW was pretty rubbish and Killzone 2 is worse.
Eighthours
Killzone 2's definitely picking up for me, the further I get through the campaign mode. It's not worth the crazy mid-90s scores (although I suppose the online could improve things further once the servers are up and running), but it's a very solid, extremely polished shooter. There are times when it looks absolutely amazing - the lighting in particular is different class. If I was reviewing it I'd give it a mid-80s score, definitely. Smitty
This has been mentioned before, but apparently the pistol is well rubbish. Which is really odd, considering: 1: This is a hugely expensive, polished game 2: You can only swap out the main gun 3: This is 2009.

It is indeed rubbish. There's one miniboss battle in particular where it's fucking abysmal. You have to shoot some electricity pylons while carrying a rocket launcher as your other weapon, and if you're anywhere other than right up close (and therefore not in cover, getting shot to shit) you can be shooting directly at a pylon for over 10 shots and not register a hit. Crazy annoying because you HAVE to use the pistol. Seems to be alright against Helghast at close range, but not being able to swap it out is a terrible piece of design. True, which is why I mentioned, but it also isn't acceptable that it's so rubbish in the first place.
Smitty
Some comments on the story/dialogue from Truant on GAF: Nearly done with the last part.Man, you guys are in for some real cheese treats if you though the 'Time to die!' stuff was bad. Some of the most cringe-worthy stuff in this generation. I wouldn't say that. The combat in itself is good enough to make the SP worth it, even though the story and the characters are absolutely worthless. I like the backstory in the OP and all that, but it's not like that in the game The universe is great, but none of that stuff is in the actual game. I don't care if the backstory is great. Had it not been for this thread, I wouldn't know what the fuck was going on. The game doesn't really set up anything. It assumes you've played the first one, which almost no-one did, and it assumes you've read hours of backstory and universe related material. That's not a very good presentation for the biggest action game of the year, in my opinion. Nothing exciting happens in the game, story wise. NOTHING. Sure, the combat is fantastic, and some of the scenarios are quite epic, but the storytelling just isn't there. Gears has the element of intentional cheese on their side, which helps a bit. There is no humor in Killzone 2, and it does take itself a little too seriously. None of the characters are likeable.
squirtle
Well, I cancelled my pre-order. I have too much other stuff to play and I'll get this when it's under £20 from somewhere.
Hawkeye
Thought the demo was fairly average. I'll wait till it's £20 for this one beore I take the risk. Hopefully it'll do a Motorstorm Pacific Rift on me and the game totally blows me away, unlike the demo.

Maybe it's because pistols are, by their very nature, shit. Always thought it was farcical that the Halo pistol had a scope on it. You can never get accuracy with a barrel that short. mr_woo
It's the multiplayer part of this that I'm looking forward to the most. Even if the single player does turn out to be competent but disappointing I'll be happy enough if the multiplayer is good. After playing the ace FEAR 2 I guess hoping for 2 fantastic single player FPS games in one month would be too hopeful! Wish my copy would hurry up and arrive so I could at least see for myself. trickytree
So the pistol's shit, but is the knife still overpowered? I remember reading you could just rush 95% of enemies and give them a good stab, which makes the whole tactical side a bit pointless.

I remember reading you could just rush 95% of enemies and give them a good stab, which makes the whole tactical side a bit pointless. It is fairly powerful - you can take out opponents with one or two strikes. But it is fairly easy to die in Killzone 2, so if you rush in a little bit too headlong you'll get carved up by the crossfire, and if you flail about too much, you're likely to be taken out by an enemy melee attack, which seems to be just as powerful as yours.
