Selecting a lift should just take you to the matching lift on the map. Instead it zooms out to the full map overview.

Yeah but if you just hover the cursor over a map or room etc. it tells you the name of that section, but for some reason with the lifts it only tells you their destination, which isn’t ideal when planning routes. I find the game does have a flow to it following upgrades and what have you, but once you drop off the beaten path it can be a bit awkward finding the most efficient route.

I’ve had a great session this evening though, I got a couple more upgrades and a new visor. It’s just all the little details, the dry ice coming out of the canon when using the ice beam

Am I being thick or is there an easy way to tell where on another biome's map an elevator will actually bring you out? I've just got the ice beam and am getting frustrated as I apparently need to go all the way back to the snowy area now but am struggling to plan out a route to get there as where the elevators bring you out doesn't seem to have much correlation with the World Map screen at all.

I'm a bit disappointed that they haven't updated the map in this, generally, to be honest. Something that told you whether or not there were still secrets in a room you'd explored and an improved version of the world map screen, which showed you which elevators went where, would have been really useful.

Maps, maps, maps.

I have spent so much time getting confused about where and what to do next.

I've beaten the Omega Pirate fourth try - and do you know how?

Because I could see what I was doing. The better graphics, upscaling, whatever, That said I now have RSI from super missiling her.

Note to game devs - please please give us a map. God this is hard now - but I'm on an artefact quest.

Another moan :

I have brain damage and cannot remember where I was yesterday. This applies to computer games so so much. I don't want to spoil things but FFS accessibility options - I mean we have save states in emulation so why not in games? As in roll back to the last save state. There are so many times I want to try a jump or something different but know if I get it wrong then its a good 10 minutes before I can get back to the same spot.

Spoiler

The whole bit before the Omega Pirate was shit. Too dark - even with all the visors I still can't make the jump on the left . You'r e bouncing off mushrooms and trying to hold onto the floating thing which lets you grapple hook. No matter what I do I can't make the leap. Its not fun especially where you can't see where you're going.

Grrr.

Anyway - Omega pirate down - artefact hunt here I go.

Well, if it's any consolation, I don't have brain damage but also still seem to find that I've completely forgotten where I was going between sessions, so you're not alone there.

It is:..

it's a wonderful game but there are a couple of flaws but il wait until I've completed it before I start on that!

The improved textures and speed make this  so much ease easier than I  remember. It is so smooth you never feel the fail that you're struggling will the input lag.

Onwards! I gave up on thee Omega PItate 20 years ago. Fourth time's the harm..

The framerate/magic by Nintendo is extraordinary

 And wow the atmosphere...

It's just sublime.

If MP4 is like this  take my money.

If they learn from the ramstet then take my soul :)

Yeah it’s a shame, because otherwise the 3D map is fabulous and one of my favourites in a game. Up there with SOTN as the most memorable.

I think I’d like a bookmark system, maybe? Let me mark a room for later, with a little icon or something.

Was Hollow Knight the first Metroidvania to do this? Quite possibly not, but it was the first time I encountered it.

One of those 'this changes everything' moments - a bit of design that Just Makes Sense, and from which there's no going back.

So going back in Metroid Prime is quite jarring!

Yeah the map is a bit of a pain. It's a great 3D map on a room to room basis, which a lot of games still struggle with even now. But it's really bad at communicating how elevators link between zones and not changing colour when you've exhausted a room of secrets is annoying, that's something I just take for granted in Metroidvania games now.

I'll still say that if you want to bounce up big cylindrical rooms, hybrid controls are best.. jumping and turning is much faster and smoother.

But dual sticks means I can look around and embrace all the loveliness much easier.

Just beaten Omega Pirate so I think it's now the artifact hunt for me. Pretty much agree with what everyone has said above with regards to the map, great on a room by room basis, but awful from an elevator perspective. Also a nice QoL would be for the doors to default to be openable by any weapon once you have opened them once. I appreciate it's only a minor irritation. but when you are trying to quickly get from one place to another the fact that the game is so split up into little rooms means it just adds that extra little bit a friction that doesn't need to be there.

Also, and I know it's probably sacriledge to say it, but I do wish that by this point in the game there was the option to warp between save rooms.

Couple of things that are a personal irritations, and I appreciate that they are there because of the new control mechanism which is a great additon, so these are only minor gripes. I use the twin stick control method, and it's quite jarring when you go into morph ball, or you are using the grapple beam and you lose control of the camera. For the morph ball it's kind of auto lazily moving to behind you, and for the grapple you suddenly have to control the camera with the left stick.

Now I'm not sure if this is related to the above (I've just come to the conclusion that it might be) but I also really dislike when you come out of the morph ball and there is that moment in time when you can't control where the camera is looking before you zoom back into the helmet view. Also a lot of the time she isn't looking the way I think she should be looking. Anyway as I say it's just another minor gripe.

YMMV, but can you just press Home and come back to it later? Resume worked perfectly for me when I used it.

This might be a problem for me as I share a Switch with my wife, so would have to make sure I'm at a save point before she goes to play something else on it.

A suspend/resume feature on all games that don't regularly auto-save would be handy.

I wonder how much of the feedback about this remake’s controls/gameplay/quality of life will be used to polish off MP4. How often does a developer get to have a franchise reappraised this widely while they’re working on bringing it back?

Not us specifically of course unless there’s something I don’t know.

The psychic damage dealt to the forum when it's revealed the_debaser is actually Shigeru Miyamoto will be incalculable.

I think it’s interesting, admirable even, that they resisted altering the game in any way other than by offering a lower difficulty setting. Whilst working on the remake and Prime 4 at the same time it must have been tempting to introduce new features, or alter the game in some way to meet more modern standards. I think the choice to leave it be was the correct one, even though it’s flawed in some ways such as the map or poor check pointing. It’s a perfect document of the original game.

I missed two missable scans, apparently.

Gutted.

know I've missed two scans so far (one door I should have scanned before unlocking it, and another section that an action changed the scan, so really should have done a before / after).

I'm sure on my first play through, all those years ago, I got 96% or around about that, so hoping I can at least manage that

Just got the second suit upgrade so heading back to the Frigate - as I get deeper into it I'm finding so many more 'oh shit, I forgot about that' moments ❤️

Journey to the Savage Planet is a 3d metroidvania and very good it is too. Doesn’t have the same atmosphere as Metroid Prime but is built from the same blue print.

Journey to the Savage Planet is literally Metroid Prime but with much more wide open areas and it works great. It's not fully open world by any stretch but it's definitely not corridor to big room to corridor like Prime is.

I think it's been removed from Gamepass now but it's well worth checking out, I enjoyed it a lot and it shows that it is possible to dramatically open up the levels while retaining the same sense of progression and discovery.

Savage Planet is on PS Plus Extra, it’s come off Game Pass unfortunately, it’s also available for Switch.

@metallicfrodo @Jamie John @Majora @Stanley Just a quick heads up to you fellow JTTSP fans that if you've already got it on either PS5 or Series X/S (not too sure re PC) then not only is there a nice new shiny 4K, new add's / chats with the corporate fella upgrade (came out on the 14th) but you'll now also get the Hot Garbage DLC FOC. The only downside is that you'll have to download the new Employee of the month edition and your old saves apparently won't work with it either. Small price to pay IMO as I'd only put a few hours into it on GP and then bought it but hadn't continued so will very happily start out again, as it'll be a great game to get me primed for my physical Prime in a few weeks time :)

When I got to the end of the wall of things that you stick to only to find I had no bombs. All the way back to the ship to reload. Unless I lmissed something that seems like a shitty bit of game design. There should have been a way to restock them without back tracking.

I am still loving it though!

Does  anyone know how JTSP runs on switch??

I found it fine - completed it on Switch. I should note though, I don't notice 30vs60 a lot of the time etc so others may tell me I'l wrong and it's a technical mess.

Thanks - that's great. I'll find a copy/keep an eye out for an eshop sale.

Man, the Phazon Mines don't fuck around. Where's my save station, dammit!

Are you supposed to be able to beat the

Spoiler

Invisible drone thing that guards the power bomb without the X-Ray visor? Because I did, just about, but it was a massive pain in the arse.

I don’t think there is any way to lock on with L2 regardless of visor

Spoiler

It goes down really quickly to the Purple beam version of the super rockets which locks on to it though

Also I assume you found the save station once you beat it. That really is a horrible section.

According to a wiki I read, you do it without first.

I couldn't get a lock-on to it with anything. And I thought you could only do the super missile with the power beam, or is the wave beam super missile something you get later?

Each beam type has a ‘super missile’ version. I certainly had picked it up by that point. No idea if it was off the beaten path. To be clear I could not do a normal lock on, just when I triggered the wave beam super (which is like a continuous stream thing) it seemed to attach to it.

From the wiki

Also in Metroid Prime, the Wave Beam can be upgraded with a Charge Combo called the Wavebuster. This allows Samus to fire a perpetual wave of electrical energy at an enemy, and like the normal beam it has a limited homing feature, but doesn't require a lock-on. However, its range is somewhat low. This attack uses up ten Missiles to activate and uses five Missiles per second when holding the fire button. Although it has an extreme ammunition cost with less damage-per-missile than the Super Missile, it deals damage at an incredible rate, making it valuable for quickly defeating enemies in a pinch.

The Super versions of the other weapons are optional. I'd definitely recommend getting the Wavebuster (assuming you're not going for 100%).

Cool. I didn't even realise that was a thing, to be honest. Once I'm done with my current area I might have an explore, but it's irritating when you can only get so far before you don't have an upgrade and have to turn back.

Once I've got the

Spoiler

heat beam and grapple

are most areas available to me?
