I did a loop of every area with the music off and came back at 96%, they can wait until the next time I want to just spend some time on Tallon IV for ~vibes~.

And that’s it! 16-ish hours, 98% and zero Games Over isn’t bad after all these years if I do say so.

 

 

I really love the momentum in that last boss fight, how Samus is constantly giving chase and leaping after the boss and the final phase is these two creatures getting in each other’s face constantly. And the great focus on the visor and weapon gimmicks that hold the whole game together, which makes for an incredible light show in this port.

 

I can see this being in the top 3 for the forum’s GotY.

 

Edit - Disappointed they couldn’t find a way to give us the little guy using a Metroid as a jet pack.

I’ve completed several Metroid games and not once has Samus collected a bounty.

Well then she should rebrand as a vigilante. Calling herself a bounty hunter is awful branding and sends the wrong message.

Dude, she's a manufactured bio-weapon. The Chozo may have been wise and ancient, but their ethics are well suspect.

I've realised the Space Pirates are actually the most human characters in this. They're on Tallon IV to exploit it as a fuel source regardless of the environmental repercussions, they run dubious experiments on the local wildlife and their own soldiers, they have hierarchy/command structures, they possess advanced technology, they're skilled engineers, they preserve records and practice administration.

 

Samus meanwhile is more like the unrelenting impersonal alien force.

Bloody, muddyfunstering, perpetually spawning splitter Metroids.

 

I hate the little squawk they give as they pop out of the festering Phazon boil they spawn from. Before heading right for my head, splitting in two, and having one of them knock me off the platform while I'm scrabbling to select the right type of gun to shoot the other one.

To be honest, I love that bit! I’ve made it through all the way to the Metroid Prime door twice now without the Metroids touching me, proper Mario stylee speed platforming.

standing in the puddles - I don't remember it being that difficult, if you get straight to the puddle you can use the charged up beam to kill any Metroids that spawn while you cycle the visors to find the big dickhead to unleash the rest of the phazon beam.

I know, but I barely know them. Half the time when I’m trying to change weapons I put the scanner on as it is!

Dual sticks are brilliant, but having visors and guns on the d-pad with a toggle is a bit rubbish... if only the Switch had a third stick  

I found myself constantly getting confused and going into the morph ball, but that's likely just an age thing...
