Here is a is a nice flash version, its the only version I have played, but seems to be missing the x 's? are they significant and is this version missing something? Or am i too slow and have yet to come across them?

It is really great fun.

It is really great fun.

The x's aren't extra elements of the puzzle or anything, they're just a way of letting you mark lines that definitely aren't part of the loop. It makes figuring everything out a hell of a lot easier, especially in the larger puzzles where it's hard to keep track of what's going on.

Had this for ages and just couldn't get my head round it. Genuinely couldn't see what the fuss was about.

One afternoon on holiday it suddenly clicked and for the whole of the three weeks since then whenever I close my eyes I see Slitherlink puzzles. It's brilliant - a little too trial and error at times, and my god it's not for playing after a few drinks, but it's right up there with Picross as the best game on the DS imo.

Me suspects you're just a bit rubbish at Slitherlink :D

I just finished this with a total time of 58 hours or so, which is a lot quicker than I suspected it'd taken, weirdly. There are some right bitches in that final set of puzzles. 40 being one of them, but 47 being the devil. Took me two attempts at 90 minutes plus each to get that one done, and had to work out some strategies specifically for that puzzle, it was that tough.

As for the original topic, 10/10? Nah, not for me. There's a couple of problems that'd knock it down a point - slowdown being the main one. The last thing I expected in this game, and it makes the latter stages of huge puzzles awkward. It'd have been nice if when you were working on a line it was highligted a different colour on the top screen too. The top screen is next to useless.

God knows what I'm gonna play for my puzzle fix now.

Thread resurrection ahoy!

Not played this for at least 6 months but it caught my attention when I was hunting through my pile of DS games. Had previously abandoned this just around the start of the 18x10 puzzles due to it taking too long per puzzle to have a quick blast, but true to form after a couple of puzzles I'm hooked again and doing the 18x10s at the same speed I was doing the 10x10s. I'd forgotten just how brilliantly logical these things are, if you approach it properly then it's one of the most addictively pure gaming experiences available but just a single logical slip up and you're in a world of pain.

I'd encourage anyone who didn't finish this to get back on the Slitherlink train destination: bliss!

I'm still playing this game whenever I get the urge! Currently re-working my way through getting every possible star. Hopefully I'll get some kind of 'YOU ARE AWESOME' message (albeit in Japanese) when I finally get there.

Yeah I'll probably do that for the 10x10s (already done for the easy ones) once I get near the end of the 18x10s.

Is it possible for a mod to reverse the thread so that Slitherlink is in the main title and the 10 out of 10 is in the sub, makes it easier to find when it inevitably slips off the front page. Cheers.

Not this version, I think there's some kind of puzzle compilation featuring SL in English. From what I gather it's nowhere near as good as the "original" one from this thread.

Edit: whoa! Apparently this has been discontinued but there's one sealed on eBay for £20 delivered if someone is up for it...

edit: done it now, but this is not proving easy.

It get's easier. I was the same, it was quite frustrating until about 10 games in and then it 'clicks'. Your brain finally realises easier ways to the solution, little tricks to use...then you'll start flying.

Started playing this again last week myself after not touching it for a few months. I'd forgotten about the dreams, crackers :lol:

So does everyone just play through the difficulty levels or do you go for 'ranking challenge'? What's the diff?

I've only ever played through the difficulty levels, that kept me busy enough. Didn't even realise there was a ranking mode :lol:

I'll have to give it a try.

Two years since my last post and I'm still at it. Returned to it recently and I'm now down to the last 25 puzzles. Though they are taking about an hour each at this stage.

I love it... Does anyone here live in Japan and able to get the books?

Bumping a 7 year old thread to say how much I'm loving this game at the moment. Saw an import copy for a tenner and realised I had lost my old game. It's effectively brand new as I can't remember anything about the solutions, obviously.

 

Complete a couple every day on my commute and just hit the 70 puzzle mark on the second difficult.

 

Just brilliant, brilliant stuff.
