Rock Band!

Gentlemen 150 pounds is a lot of money to me, with other things getting in the way ie mortage, council tax etc but I do feel i am missing out. So my question is will I regret it if I decide to invest in Rock Band tomorrow ?

In twenty years of gaming this is unquestionably the best game I have ever played. Buy it now.

According to some GameInformer scans (from the Rock Band scorehero site) there's going to special limited edition Rock Band 2 drumset that doubles up as an electronic drumkit! There's 3 added cymbals too (representing yellow, blue and green). Looks da bomb but I can't get to the page here...

Looks like the mad katz rubber drum pads have been put back for some reason, they were due out today but retailers are now saying it'll ship in 7 days. :)

What Kel was saying;

-Ability to "tune" your instruments

-Redesigned quickplay mode

-Brand new track choice screen

-Ability to create setlists

-Ability to auto-create setlists

-No-Fail mode

-Solo modes for every instrument

-World Tour Online

-Battle of the Bands mode

--Band vs Band

--Start out going against bands like yourself

--During each challenge, theres a meter that shows how close you are to passing the next band

--1 mode is: bands compete for the highest multiplier for the longest time

--Countdown to the deadline next to the instructions

-Drum Trainer

-More user-friendly lag calibrator

-Jukebox mode

--Listen to music, but don't have to play

-Old hardware still works

-New drum pads are velocity sensitive

-Less "squishy" strummer

-Ion drum kit

-Able to purchase custom real-world merch for characters

-In-game photo creator lets you set facial expressions and poses for your characters, add visual effects and then upload to RockBand.com

-You can order t-shirts and posters, bumper stickers and all sorts of stuff with your band logo.

-Guitar buttons don't click so loudly

That Ion kit looks fucking half decent but thing is - how will you know if the games looking for a high hat, ride or crash instead of a low, mid or floor tom hit? Yeah sometimes it's obvious but not all the time. Especially if you don't know the song off by heart or at all!

While I'm sure if you hit the ride when it's looking for a tom the game will take it as a correct hit but that will kind of take away from the whole point of a full kit, no?

Does it matter.

Well, like I say, t takes away from the fact it's a full kit. The hi hat, crash and ride are just extra pads. If the game puts in a little visual on the note chart to distinguish between the toms and cymbals that'd be great. Otherwise it just be guess work and tests of memory whether or not to hit the crash or floor tom.

Again, like I say, it won't matter on the whole as hitting the green pad or the green cymbal will still register as a hit but it just, to me, defeats to whole point.

Still looks great and the fact that it doubles as a electronic kit is ace. Shame there's no hi hat pedal though.

You can already do that through your pc here

From the looks of things, it looks like the game won't distinguish between toms and cymbals at all - note the little flashes of colour around the cymbal pivots. Basically, it means that if the notechart has put cymbal noises onto yellow/blue/green, you can choose to play those on actual cymbal pads; otherwise, you can play them on the main pads. It's purely aesthetic from the looks of the hardware, but it would make the sensation of playing more realistic.

I know and that's kind of my point, that realism won't really be felt if you twack the crash and then get the noise of a low tom.

But still, it looks great and I don't mean to rag on it so hard.

I'm only just finding it annoying that they're releasing this so soon after the UK release. After looking at my semi-broken drum set I'm thinking they're basically doing what they should have done in the first place with the drums and indeed the guitar. It's quite hard to believe IMO that they didn't see the hardware faults were at least fairly serious and could have been at least partially addressed for the first game.

That, and I won't be able to afford all this fancy new stuff :).

Konami are suing Harmonix -

http://kotaku.com/5024079/konami-suing-har...-over-rock-band

Betty, file this under “surprised it took them this long”, could you? Konami’s lawyers in the US have filed a patent lawsuit against Harmonix (and MTV, and VIacom) in the federal court in Tyler, Texas. They allege that Harmonix’s Rock Band violates a pair of patents Konami obtained in 2002 and 2003, which relate to “simulated musical instruments, a music-game system and a musical-rhythm matching game”. For this, Konami seek justice. They also seek cash money. Loads of cash money. As well as an order blocking Harmonix (or Viacom) from using technology that violates Konami’s patents.

If you were serious enough about the drumming to want to hit the right pad at the right time then of course you'd make the effort to learn songs properly and remember when to hit which pad. I can't really see the problem with that. For everyone else the pad will just function the same as a normal "blue".

Confusion...

Apparently I just finished the solo medium tour on drums even though when I go to the select difficulty screen it says I've only done 45 out of 67 songs!? Whats the dealio?

On the song selection screen there's a bonus tour and downloaded songs tour (scroll to the bottom of the list).
