Fallout 3 - Official Thread

Only 1 level-up, 5 sidequests and the final chapter of the main quest left.

It seems this will end this week.

:)

I wouldn't be so sure. I have no level-ups, no sidequests, and the final chapter left, and I'm still going off exploring random locations, finding loads of awesome unique stuff, and having no intention of finishing the main quest any time soon.

There's even a gameplay experiment I want to do that I'm saving for when I get bored (which isn't looking likely at the moment)

I call it

A Fresh Start:

Strip naked. Completely. Drop EVERYTHING you're carrying (except for undroppable quest items, but they should weigh zero anyway) including all of your precious caps. Leave your companions at home too.

Set the difficulty to Very Hard if you haven't already done so.

Then, starting from your hometown, head out, and don't come back until you're poweful enough to comfortably take out a camp full of enclave/supermutants/mercs.

The first hour should be tense as fuck, running from pretty much everything, eventually killing your first bandit with your bare hands and your health bar hanging by a thread. The immensely relieving feeling of security when you don his armour and pick up his weapon, only to find it only has 8 shots left. etc.

If anyone wants to give it a shot, let me know how it turns out.

Yeah you'll never get the range with that. What you want is the scoped magnum.

Probably some guy in dark glasses booking Bushtopher's full cavity search as we speak, with a load of little NSA red flags blipping somewhere on a monitor.

Hehe, that sounds like an amazing idea :)

I'm pretty sure I'll find lots of stuff to do as well actually. Yesterday I was walking around a bit and found many pockets of resistance and interesting places to explore which have nothing to do with any of the quests. There are also loads of bobbleheads to find (I only have 4 so far). And of course the inevitable evil playthrough, although I will do that on the PC.

Well my Xbox died this weekend so that's me done until I can afford another one :o

3 years warranty on RRoD! Check the Xbox Problems thread for more info if you haven't done so.

I only bought this game as I was on call this weekend and so had to stay home, so I thought a new game would keep me occupied for the weekend.

I'm now probably more obsessed with Fallout 3 than I have been any other game since, ooh, Metroid Prime (the first one).

Brilliant, brilliant stuff. And I'm not even level 5 yet (almost am).

Edit:

If you want a good laugh, read this thread again from the beginning. It starts with a hell of a lot of people saying it is going to be crap, then it gets dissed as the first gameplay videos come out, then those that yarr it say its a bit crap and then in the end everyone turns around and loves it.

Getting lost was so enjoyable on my original playthrough that I've only been able to play my second character (I lost my first thanks to a HD failure) in scattered two to three hour chunks, knowing where many of the places are. I'm not the only the one who is waiting until March to play all three DLC packs in one go to get another continuous 20-30 hours out of the game, am I?

I'm sure it's been mentioned before but the patch to the 360 seems to have really improved the look of the whole game, let alone bug fixes.... I hadn't played it for a while (week or two maybe) but I'm sure it looks a lot better than just fixing some crashes.

I might try 'a fresh start' at the level 20 I'm on, doing any misssions is a bit of a breeze at the mo, so making it a bit more edge of the seat, might be good... I might even ditch

Fawkes'

weaponry... fisticuffs at dawn for everyone!

I nearly picked it on my last level up.

What's wrong with it?

The only issue I had with it is that it sometimes blows your enemy into a hundred little bits making looting a bit of a pain. Didn't bug me though and you do get 5% extra damage on all weapons. Not much, but I picked it as a very early perk

No, that's exactly what I'm doing as well, I chew through the hours so quickly on FO3 that another 7-8 alone isn't going to satisfy. New game wise I still have a few important locations left to find in the world, I think I stopped at around 100 and have heard there's 50 more, but when those locations can consist of a small, empty trailer park they go by faster then you might expect.

Don't listen to that careless knave Uzion, since I chose that perk it's usual that when shot, enemies blow up in the most ridiculous, unconvincing way. As Astilius said, it removes all the satisfaction from a well-aimed shot taking off a head, limb etc, as all the other limbs tend to explode upon impact too.

That is true. I became too used to it to notice since I had it from level 5 or something.

Yeah it's really cool

I deliberately didn't choose that perk as I was afraid that's what it would be. I think they overdid the gore in this respect, since shooting off a limb/head with one bullet is more the kind of thing you'd only expect with the bloody mess perk, but instead it happens in every other fight without it.

did someone just say you miss a quest if

you get past the mayor of Lamplight with speech  I read that you can go and do it anyway but still a little upsetting as i wouldn't have know if i hadn't had read this thread.

The quest is still there. It's possible to have already done it before even learning of Little Lamplight.

It'd be good if they blew up in a red-mist or something, if that was the kind of thing you were after choosing the perk, but in reality their arms shoot off at the elbows, the legs unattach at the knees and their head lolls off their shoulders.

Occasionally they'll properly explode but they're a stat too strong it just looks silly. Humph.

Tiny complaint for a vastly great game. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off down the Lane.

People say that, but I can't tell. I'd really have to see side-by-side screenshots of before and after (which would be a little hard on the 360, and it's such a minor update I don't see gaming websites bothering).

Anyway, I have not spoiled myself for the main quest, but I hear that it has a definite "ending" which ends the game. For people who finished it: does the game give you very clear notification of when it's going to end? Like: "Okay, if you don't save right now, this quest is going to rollercoaster into a conclusion and the credits are going to roll. So save here and do other things first." ? If it doesn't tell the player, can you tell me - without spoilers - what that point would be?

I'm about half way through the main quest now (

Liam Neeson

is waiting for me at Rivet City), and I've been taking time out to explore the northwest of the map. I met deathclaws! Good job I have my dart gun. One thing that annoys me a little is how quickly I level up. I'm at level 19 already. I know I only have one more set of skill points to give out, and one more perk to choose... then that's it (until I pay for more content in March). That doesn't seem right to me. Oh, and would it be a waste to choose Explorer as the level 20 perk?
