Fallout 3 - Official Thread

Twatting bugs and shoddy code made Mrs Henderson disappear (despite the recent patch claiming to remedy such things) and reloads of earlier saves did nothing, so I had to bypass all that potential fun and look up the correct sequence to make the you-know-what appear online.

did someone just say you miss a quest if

you get past the mayor of Lamplight with speech  I read that you can go and do it anyway but still a little upsetting as i wouldn't have know if i hadn't had read this thread.

Yeah, that was me. In a way it was nice really, as I happened to come across

Paradise Falls

by accident while exploring, and it was there that I found out about the quest. Which could indeed still be done.

If you have the PC version you can open the console and:

If she's technically there, but can't be found/reached, type:

player.moveto 25090

If she's totally not there, type:

player.placeleveledactoratme 244A3

You know president Eden? Well, see his voice, I'd fucking love if America had a president had a voice that sounded like him.

So, warm and comfortably old fashioned and assured.

Yeah, I know it's Malcolm McDowell but, man, I could listen to Eden all night.

I like the part where he says he'll sort out america for us, instead of this stupid new real-life president who says we all have to do our part

I was a bit surprised that he

would just agree to blow Raven Rock to smithereens

just because of my suggestion though.

I think that was more of a tribute to

one of the endings in Fallout 1. I agree though, I was LOLing on my way out at how easy it was.

Decorating your place...

The "My first Infirmary" & "My first laboratory" seem a bit shit really, why would I want to heal fully - when there is a bed I can sleep in to do the same!?! And brewing chems isn't great, I'd thought I'd get to mix shit up but all it does it churn out a random item once per day.

Am I missing something or are these both a bit of a waste of money?

You will be swimming in caps sooner or later. I have over 4,000 now and ammo and stimpacks and radaway coming out of my ears. I don't really have anything to spend them on apart from trying out all the different house themes. I've already bought the jukebox, nuka-cola machine, workbench, infirmary and laboratory.

My verdict on the house themes so far:

Pre-War - I think this was my favourite to look at. Can't remember what extras you got with it, I think it was mainly food and stuff. I took all the sugar bombs to that ghoul.

Love - Some nice lights and a big heart shaped bed but the extras you get with are crap, loads of useless clothing.

Science - I hate the look of this, it's so cold and sterile. The extras are the best so far though. Lots of stimpacks, radaways, chems and other bits and pieces you can use to build weapons.

I think I'll try the vault theme next.

When my lockpick skills were low I often used the chem which boosted your perception if a lockpick level was too high but I don't really need to now. Occasionally, if I'm in an area full of enemies I might use the Jet, Med-X or Psycho. I don't really bother with the others

Just wondering - is all stuff you leave in your place safe, i.e. the game isn't going to remove it.

I mean the stuff left laying about, on shelves on the floor etc. I know the stuff in the the lockers will be ok.

Just a bit paranoid after I've spent a fair while decorating my place with weapons, nuka-cola and bottles of vodka

It's just like my real home now :D

The infirmary is great. It will cure you of all radiation, heal limbs and get you to full health in no time. My first investment in my house and happy I took it. The laboratory is a bit shit unless you do a whole lot of chems. The jukebox is useless but a bit fun, same with the nuka cola machine. The workbench is pointless as there's one you can use for free at Moira's. Still, you will be swimming in caps before long so just investment in them as you see fit, you won't have anything better to spend your money on anyways.

God, I so want to get back to this but have promised myself to finish Far Cry 2 and Dead Space first... :(

(Even though this is the type of sandbox gaming FC2 dreams of becoming once it grows up... :D )

Or if like me you have long since vaporised Megaton and all its annoying inhabitants the workbench is very useful. Also if you can store all your items for building weapons at your residence instead of carrying them around.

For those who have done Rielly's Rangers.

Quick Question -

Do you ever meet the guy babbling all the fire and brimstone shite while you walk about the area near the end?

There's an NPC around there who will let you know a bit about what's going on, though last time I attempted it things ended... poorly.

He's in a nearby alleyway. Look around for a wastelander nearby. There's not much you can do really though.

Fair point re Megaton, although IIRC there's one near Tenpenny Tower as well.

Another point against the workbench would be that the only useful items to build are the bottlecap mine and the nuka grenade and the items required for those are quite light so not much of a problem if you do have to carry them around... But like I said, might as well get it. Wouldn't be my first investment, though.

Spoiler involving the Blood Ties quest:

I managed to go down there and kill everyone except Vance, who went down to about 1/3 health and then disappeared. Not being able to find him and hence being unable to get through the necessary door I ended up hitting google. Turns out you're not supposed to kill everyone. In fact you are just supposed to have a nice chat.

Gah. Couple of hours lost, what with me having to go and find some ammo half way though.

I did it the diplomatic way but I'm sure you can do it all guns blazing? Can't you just hack the terminal to the cell door where the bloke you're after is locked up in? If not, Vance may have run into cover somewhere, I'd suggest a sweep of the area, looking behind objects - enemies run and then crouch and cower. It's possible he could have run off down one of the tunnels. Keep an eye on your radar for the red blips.
