I think there will always be a few locations in DC that I'll never be able to get to. It's simply too annoying trying to use the metro system. I've tried my best, but it's like a puzzle and I just can't seem to connect to a few places. I can never remember which metro stations I have already been through -- they all look the same. Then most of them have at least two branching paths. It's too boring trudging through all of them. But that's how DC works... you use the metro to pop up into areas that are blocked on all sides.

So, I finished the main quest yesterday and I didn't see then end coming.

Why can't I bumble around after I've done it - I suppose the completion of the main quest makes the side ones redundant but I don;t have a save to go back to when it's not all kicking off. Colour me impressed on the whole but underwhelmed.

Blimey. Not sure what to do now.

Well, the DLC is going to give you more content, of course; but if you've only played 28 hours you've barely seen any of what there is in the first place. The main quest has a couple of set pieces that are nice, but the most enjoyable part of the game is wandering the wastes and seeing what's out there. Of course, if that's not what you're after then the more focussed DLC content (which presumably will be 'set piece' based) may be what you'd prefer anyway.

Edge had seldom been wronger. Considering my number one and number two games of 2008 scored an average of 6/10 makes me wonder.

It was quite right in regards to initial impressions and not getting involved with the setting etc, I also thought at the start that it was just a re-skinned Oblivion in depressing brown but it's nothing like Oblivion at all and is generally fantastic.

So there nasty Mr. Edge man.

Indeed - I wonder if they could have fixed this by letting you cycle through weapon categories using the D-pad? For example if you had an energy weapon assigned to Left, then repeatedly pressing Left would cycle through the other energy weapons in your inventory, in order of strength, or something.

Especially towards the end on harder difficulties you keep having to switch between different weapon sets depending on the type of enemy you're fighting. For example fighting Sentry Bots instead of Deathclaws is a very different affair.

I'm at the very end of the game now, just the final quest to do - all the loose ends are tied up! What will I do with my life?! (wait a week for DLC I suppose  )

I spent ages today hunting

deathclaws

around some abandoned settlement to the north of the map. It was brialliant. With

Charon

in tow, we sneaked our way through the settlement and the sewers, laying traps of bottlecap mines and then luring the bastards in. It really was fantastic.

After that, while milling around the wasteland, somewhere near the middle we came across a

Behemoth

. Totally wasn't expecting it. He came in swinging his club like crazy, and

Charon

got hit pretty bad, is body being smashed around unconcious all over the shop before his demise. As

Charon

insisted on getting so close to the big guy, I couldnt use the

fat man

, untill it was all over for him. So,

Charon

became the fourth companion of mine to die. First,

Dogmeat, Star Cross Paladin, then Fawkes and finally Charon.

He was my best friend in that backward world.

Its really not the same without him.

I'm really loving this.

You can really settle in and start enjoying it once you get over those initial ammo and stimpak shortages you suffer just after leaving Vault 101 (I'm swimming in both now)

Thing is, I'm maybe loving it a little too much, I think at the rate I'm going - I'll still be playing this at Christmas...

Exploring everywhere, doing every quest I can, talking to everyone, listening to all the conversation branches, but I just can help myself.

Oh aye, ran into my first

deathclaw

last night when roaming about. The SON OF A BITCH.

I come across it entirely at random as I turn a corner around some rocks and watch it beat the living shit out of a giant radscorpion. I think, "A ha! I have the drop on it!", and shoot it in the back with my sniper rifle.

I appears deathclaws do not like this.

It bounded down the hill towards me like a freight train before launching itself 10 FEET IN THE AIR OFF A FUCKING ROCK to land right down on top of me. Much running, screaming, and running ensued.

Seems the wastes are a dangerous place even for someone with my experience...

Yeah, they're the most dangerous things in the whole Wasteland. If more than one of them attacks you, you'd better have Stimpacks on hotkey! Even at level 20 (at least on higher difficulty levels) they can still take you out in a few hits - evil I tell thee!

When clearing out infested areas the other day, I found that high powered mines and the good old mini nukes are the safest way to deal with them.

A good tip for players with followers is to shoot those enemies before your follower does - because otherwise your follower becomes the target and is going to get turned into mash damned fast! Stupid dog!

I did that midnight patrol with the Outcasts a few nights ago. It was great scouting ahead of them, getting an enemy's attention so they give chase, then hotfooting it back to the Outcasts, so the rather surprised enemy was met with a hail of Gatling lasers.

I followed them for ages, until they reached the edge of D.C. The Sun was just rising, the ruins glowing orange around the edges. Attacked a raider encampment. Hunting rifles against a Regulator and two suits of power armour? Pffft.

Then my two surviving outcast buddies (and the heavily-damaged Protectron) walked down into a subway station and just vanished. Just disappeared like they were a wasteland mirage.

Dart Gun - dart to each leg and then take them in your own sweet time. Don't bother getting the good stuff out for them.

Yeah, I saw a map of DC in the paper today and all I could think about was Fallout, and how I still hadn't gone into the Capitol Building.

Ha, inspired by the inauguration I went into the Capitol Building tonight. Pretty awesome, especially the

big fight with the Behemoth

.

Regarding those deadclaws, why are people having so many trouble with them? I think I've encountered about a dozen so far and none of them have been able to really hurt me. I just dodge them whenever I can and pump lead in their faces. They don't usually attack me on sight either (although suddenly they may start attacking me, especially if another fight is going on in the area, they seem a bit nervous), maybe due to the Animal Friend perk?

As mentioned earlier in the thread, I'm in DC at the moment for the inauguration, and it's been great wandering around and imagining I'm in the Fallout 3 world. I need to check when I get home, but I walked through DuPoint Circle today and am sure I recognise the fountain in the middle of the circle as somewhere where I got ambushed by a group of raiders - I walked past very apprehensively (my inventory only contained purified water, which wouldn't be much protection!).
