The Family related:

When I first did the mission 'Blood Ties' I could only pass it by only killing Vance, their leader - if I killed any of the others (even in defence) it failed me. This didn't make sense to me because I'd freed Ian West and liberated the town of Arefu. Anyway I don't like loose ends and I didn't like The Family. I wasn't backing any of their bullshit. So since I was passing that way I decided the call in on them again and finish the job properly. Killed them all and looted the place. Now this to me really doesn't make sense. Surely it should fail me on that mission now. Does anyone understand that, or did it another way?

The quest is bugged in the retail release -

it's meant to be that you can kill the Family as one of the many ways to resolve it, but the game counts the Family and the citizens of Arefu as being of the same faction, so any infraction against one group makes the other hostile, so you fail the quest. I think it's been fixed by modders on the PC version but Bethesda have yet to patch it, if my understanding is correct.

Something not right with that. When I played, on 360, I just went in and killed them all, spoke to the kid and convinced him to go home sure that completed the quest.

It was 60 odd hours ago though so my memory might be a bit hazy, sure I have the achievement for it.

Oh, another thing, in the one where you get the freed slaves to head off towards the memorial... how long do they take? I found them ages later in a weird place near the Arlington library, marching along & getting into fights. Two of them died and it gave a big quest failure messages so I reloaded but since then I've done loads of stuff and they still haven't arrived

I set them off, fast traveled to the memorial and then just 'waited' for half a day where they then appeared out of the subway

It took a long time, I also thought it was bugged. Eventually I just killed the resistance in the monument and used the wait function until they arrived.

I'd already done that beforehand, thought I needed to for an earlier part of the quest. I did enjoy handing the leader a cap mine after we'd had our initial little chat.

I shall go & wait. Ta.

I have found Dogmeat :) Now I know my life is gonna get harder cos if anyone so much as lays a finger on him...

The wasteland is harsh man. I love going back to my home in Megaton, and I always like to bring a souvenir back with me - which I have loads of now all around my house on tables etc.

Have you tried returning to Arefu though?

Perhaps it's been patched on the quiet, however. Let's see what Fallout Wiki has to say about it...

Here we go

I got the gist of it, but it accounts for your experience too. :)

Yeah I went back, the kid was back in his mum & dads house.

Its all very strange really.

From reading that wikipage though its cleared up what happened in my mates game though, he was saying he had the problem of Arefu turning against him.

Hmmmm it saddens me to say this but I'm starting to tire a little of this now.

It's still great but it's all I've played for well over a month now, it's dominating the small amount of gaming time I have.

I could play something else, as I think my brain is craving some gaming variety - however I'm concerned that if I do that I'll never come back to this. But at the same time I'm slightly resenting the fact it's stopping me playign anything else

Dilemma!

Just keep track of the stuff you still have to do. I often play something else, and then go back to Fallout 3 for an hour 'to get one of those Behemoths'. Which then results in another 6 hours of play because I get sidetracked :)

Unfortunately I've literally pretty much run out of things to do, all that's left is collecting the last couple of bobbleheads and find some stuff to build the custom weapons. Those bobbleheads could be fun as it will involve exploring some new areas though, so I suppose I could fill some time with that. Then it's time to see the ending and wrap it up until Broken Steel drops.

Do you get anything out of Operation Anchorage that might be useful in the main game for someone halfway through? Weapons/perks? Or is it all a sim and as such, not real? I'm level 16 at the moment, have

met Dad but not gone to Rivet City with him yet

Same, but with the concurrent observation that if it was one of the game's quests straight out of the box it would be one of the most memorable and talked-about. :eyebrows:

Sure, it wasn't bad or anything. But it offered too little for quite a substantial amount of cash. If it were a freebie or 400 points or something you wouldn't hear me complain. Mainly the lack of choices, story and exploration made it a bit of a snorefest. Especially being level 20 and able to blast through it like a walking tank.

I went back just to do the "Oasis" quest as it sounded a bit out of ordinary, & I wanted the Trophy.

At one point after I drank the sap I wondered if i had been tricked & was about to die with the way they were talking. :eyebrows:

I chose to

Kill Harold

& got the

"Barkskin" perk (Extra damage resistance)

which was nice but i'm probably going to go dark on this game a bit now too, as I want to stretch out the last bits there are to do until the DLC (hopefully) makes a PS3 appearance.

That will probably be in some kind of GOTY edition like they did with Oblivion though, so i'll have a long time to wait.
