Glad this got voted the forums GOTY otherwise I might have overlooked it. I had mixed experiences with Oblivion, but this seems to have ironed out a lot of the niggles I had with that game.

Only trouble is I was looking for a game to tide me over for an hour or so a day. This things a monster that's already eating way more hours than I can spare!

Ah, cheers for the advice. I've picked up a decent amount of pre-war money, and no doubt that'll come in handy later.

Am currently in the overseer's office, and there appears to be a lot to read on his computer, so that's when I decided to pack it in for the night.

Graphics are absolutely lovely, and the 50s/60s ironic illustration style used for public information stuff is marvellous.

Question about the Power Armour

the Brotherhood guys at GNR mumble something I can't quite make out about "ghsadfagh near lweyruiew will train you to use them" but I haven't got a clue what they are talking about, something about some "labs", what fucking labs?!

Yeah pre-war money, cigs and cartons of cigs are the best stuff to pick up and flog, money to weight ratio wise.

Disregard it. You'll get it later in the story.

Completed Anchorage yesterday. Enjoyed it, overall, despite the linearity and shooteryness of it all. Perhaps having a break from Fallout 3 before doing it worked well for me, because it played so differently to the main game - it was a bit jarring coming out of the simulation and back to "normal game rules".

Anyone else break into the infirmary at the Outcast station?

!

Cigs and cartons still take quite some weight. I prefer to sell prewar money and ammo for stuff I don't use (like Microfusion Cells, 10mm ammo and other energy stuff). Especially the microfusion/energy stuff is available in abundance later on in the game when

the Enclave

appears.

It's not one for clock watching that's for sure. I've had the game almost three weeks and put about 45 hours in, and that's just recorded time so not taking into account deaths and so on which I've lost another good few hours to.

It's a way of life.

What. The. Fuck.

Just got to Old Olney,

there are at least a dozen Deathclaws in the town if not more, I accidentally dropped into the sewers and there are about 10 more down there as well.

It's a fucking joke. I've died and reloaded about 15 times now trying to take them on. 3 or 4 would have posed a nice difficult challenge, but this is just utter arse.

What ever is in this town it's not worth the hassle.

I was completely useless when it came to the custom weapons. I could never remember what parts were needed & where to find them.

The only one I managed to make was the Railway Gun & that was because I deliberately went looking for the pieces while checking the list, like I do when grocery shopping.

^ Thanks

oh something else I wanted to clear-up

You can only live in

Megaton or Twopenny Tower - correct?

In order to get the place in Twopenny you have to blow up Megaton? - you can't get it from doing the Ghouls quest a certain way?

You may be able to live in the Tenpenny apartment if you let the ghouls in violently or whatever. I'm not sure. I think I read something to that effect.

There are also a few other places throughout the wasteland that you can 'live' in - essentially anywhere there's an unowned bed has the potential to be converted into a living space.

Do you have the dartgun? If not, make one. Shoot their legs with it to cripple them so they lose their speed. After that it's just a matter of stuffing their face with shotgun death until they topple over. It also helps to bring a mate,

Fawkes

with his minigun really helps out with Deathclaws.

You don't need to shoot Deathclaws in the legs to cripple them with the Dart Gun - any part of their body will do the trick.

Well I cleared out Old Olney - I was a Deathclaw killing machine

There really is no point though as there is fuck all there the only thing I thought was of interest was

the crashed Nuka-Cola truck and it turns out that it's not even in the town it's miles from it grrrrr

 oh well onwards to Vault 92

There is also

a suit of medic power-armour in the sewers, which automatically applies Med-X when you're wounded

IIRC.

I'm getting into this evil playthrough through, and my character's a right bitch. She doesn't take no shit from nobody (unless they could potentially be useful - sucking up to Tenpenny and Burke, for instance, but calling kids assholes all the time). I found The Shocker in the

Flooded Metro

, which is very nice. Used it to do a reverse-Phelan on Moriarty when he pissed me off. Then nuked his corpse.

Just completed the DLC. It was alright. Nice change of atmosphere and scenery I guess.

The snail's pace walk back to Megaton, though - with an inventory at 3x the weight limit - wasn't so much fun. Worth it in the end though. I'm gonna make big bucks.

Um, why didn't you just leave some of it there and come back later?

Got out of Vault 92,

a bit disappointing - but I keep expecting the Vaults to be extra special but they're not

On my way back I found a crashed ...

UFO! complete with dead alien and 50's sci-fi style space blaster, OMG what a weapon, 1 hit insta kill, OK so it's not going to be repairable and the ammo will be incredibly scarce,

it's still nice to be rewarded for exploring

I can't think of a game that better rewards exploring and going off the beaten track than Fallout 3. I've mentioned before my love of this in games, if I go looking in some nook or cranny, or off to some "interesting" looking rocks/bushes/rubble I want something for my efforts - even it if's a health pack or some ammo. Good examples would be Zelda or Half Life 2, where this behaviour is encouraged in the gamer, but so many recent games such as Mass Effect and even Fable II feel bland and empty in comparison

This bollocking game has crashed twice now! Just freezes and I have to re-boot the whole console. Is this a known issue with the PS3 version or should I get it replaced?

EDIT: OK, it's a known issue that Bethesda haven't bothered to fix. Turning off notifications might help.

I'm on the PS3 version, and when I got to the Overseer's office, the game just quit, and I was back on the PS3 dashboard :S

I was about to get very angry as I hadn't saved, but when I reloaded and selected 'continue', it put me back right where I was, luckily. I'll be saving regularly, and on multiple slots from now on.

Well, it's done and dusted and to be honest I'm relieved. I think it almost outstayed it's welcome, but that's more to do with me playing the living fuck out of it than anything else. I have no desire to go back and find all the vaults and little things and the remaining 16 bobbleheads, I'm just glad it's over. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it, I just feel exhausted from playing it.
