decided to do a bit of wandering to places i havent 'discovered' yet last night and found paradise city (or summat) and have been given a new quest to find and capture 3 people.

is that a good one to do?

:)

Only if you want to be Mr Evil. It's slave trading, basically.

he's not got a crippled limb, has he?

does it happen if you start a new game?

I think he did have a crippled limb, thanks. It's easy to forget about being crippled because it is just hidden away in your PipBoy after the initial prompt (during which the shit's hitting the fan and you miss it).

Finished Point Lookout now and it's definitely the best DLC, the quests are all quite fun and there's a nice amount of exploration to be done. I'm now on Mothership Zeta, which is ok, but just feels the same as the older DLCs, but with less variety. I've played all of Fallout 3 (and the DLC) on Very Hard difficulty and out of them all, Mothership Zeta is a real slog because the aliens have so much health, and hardly any weapons are effective against them.

Playing through the DLC, now I've hit the new level cap of 30, has made me mourn once again about the fact there's nothing to spend money on in the end-game. Since hitting level 20, 50+ hours ago, I haven't picked up items any more unless it's ammo, stimpacks, or a weapon I can use to repair, because there's no point. Really wish in some of the DLC they had added some end-game purchases/rewards aside from the new perks, to give you a reason to keep scavenging.

It will flash up and tell you in the top right if you are crippled. You can't miss a crippled head as your vision is affected (like a drug come down, but repeatedly)

arse.

just discovered the deathclaws. man, they are HARD.

Bottlecap mines are your friend.

About the crippled prompt - I said in my post, I know there is a prompt but it's very easy to miss if you're mid-combat. Tricky to communicate to the player though afterwards, it would just be annoying for it to pop up repeatedly for as long as you're crippled.

I just started the GotY version on Friday night. The very first monster I ran into was a deathclaw! It was inside the old barn near Megaton. I absolutely shit myself as all I had was a 10mm pistol! Managed to take him out though, and found a hunting rifle inside the barn :D

I've maybe only played about 6 hours or so, only at level 3. I managed to run into a group of super mutants which was very scary... one of them had a minigun!

Bloody hell, you finished off a Deathclaw with just a 10mm pistol?? That must've been TENSE.

Nice work.

I loved the hunting rifle for a while during the first 20 or so hours of the game.

I'm soooooo pleased you finally got into this!

yup!!! it took a good 15 hours of playing, but you will have to wrestle the game from my cold dead hand now.

jesus...i get freaked out at level 14 by them. how you managed that, i have NO idea.

good on you though!!!

for me, i found it really difficult until about level 6 when things suddenly just clicked into place. my advice? dont follow the story, just wander about finding things to do.

As Steven said higher up the thread, the dart gun is great for battling Deathclaws. Build one as soon as you can. One shot slows them down a lot, and stops them from doing that scary brutal leap through the air towards you. You'll get lots of time to kill them with your weapon of choice. Still need to be careful they don't get too close though.

Lots of running backwards while my AP(?) recharged, shooting it in the face. To be honest though, it didn't take too long... I'm not sure how the levelling up works but I'd have been level 1 at the time so maybe that had something to do with it (monsters at the same level?). I'm on the default difficulty level...

Is there anything worth doing with a Deathclaw hand?

Another vote for the dart gun. They're really handy at slowing down those fuckers and it'll also justify your dealing with radscorpions. :)

The dart gun also seems to be more accurate at long range than anything short of a sniper rifle so it's excellent at getting some damage in on things at the bottom of cliffs etc before you go in and actually deal with them.

you can make a deathclaw gauntlet once you get your hands on a schematic for it. think you'll also need a medical brace, a belt and some glue (though i'm not 100% sure that's an accurate list).

Cool, sounds good!

When it comes to the DLC stuff bundled with the GotY version, when should I think about diving in? Should I wait till I've completed the main game?

Also, is there a preferred order to play the DLC in?
