I'm surprised so many people use the armour, well not really. I never used any armour in the entire game, I thought I looked far more spiffing in Tenpenny's suit and a lovely hat. By the end of the game you really don't need any powerful armour, Fawkes, Dogmeat and I strolled in cleared out the entire Deathclaw sanctuary in seconds. Gone were the days of spending 30 minutes on the top of a cliff shooting at robots or hiding in pure fear from super mutants all on one bar of health.

It took me well into the game to realise that sleeping heals you, I never had the amount of caps to pay doctors so would go round for hours and hours with no health, but hey I'm a bit special :)

I've come on leaps and bounds over the last week, super mutants are no longer a problem providing I take them on just one or two at a time... Dogmeat provides a good distraction while I run up to them and unload my shotgun in their face. I cleared out the Germantown police station and the Memorial place next to Rivet City.

I'm also sporting a fine plasma rifle these days thank to the cyborg dude.

I've been planning on starting Operation Anchorage for a few days now, but I keep getting distracted by the main game. I've still got quite a big portion of the map to explore - I've still not been to downtown DC (with the exception of passing along the edge to get to Rivet City) and the North East of the map remains unexplored, although I started heading out that way last night.

the first time i played "tranquility lane" i was all like "this is the worst quest ever!" but it turns out i just wasn't trying hard enough. still not a classic, but much more satisfying than last time.

one thing i wonder if anyone knows about: after doing the quest

i leveled up and got enough science skill to get into the overseer's office but then couldn't do anything in there - is that the way it always is? there's not another way round the quest if you go in there before you enter the simulation, is there?

you might think after putting a couple of hundred hours into a game you'd run out of new stuff to learn about it. but then i'm the kind of guy who goes 40 hours without remembering, for example, that you can repair stuff yourself and that the pip-boy has a light.

The game seems to have become rather easy since I did the Replicated Man quest.

The Plasma Rifle rips through everything. Gun turrets and Super Mutants in one shot.

I'm almost tempted to up the difficulty.

which quest is that & where?

Yeah it's brilliant against radscorpions!

I met my second deathclaw tonight... just outside a town west of the Republic of Dave. Strangely, even though I'm armed to the teeth these days, it killed me pretty quick (actually it pushed me off a cliff lol!)

Bought all the expansions the other day, going to work through them in release order...

Anchorage...meh...it's okay - I love the snowy setting and I'm actually enjoying the corridor shooter stylings - but I can't shake the irritation every time I try to interact with something only to be blocked off by the 'simulation' conceit.

My most freaky Deathclaw encounter came at a point when I'd actually fought loads of them, mostly in the northern area of the map where they tend to hang out. What freaked me out was that I was about as far south as it's possible to go, when I heard Dogmeat suddenly growling, and attacking something. Turned to find out it was a Deathclaw, which totally surprised me, and actually threw me off guard for precious seconds. Those wasted seconds led to Dogmeat's brave death. :(

There's a town nearby crawling with them. Scary.

Yeah I'm guessing it's the same place... I may wait a while before venturing in there. Must get the schematic for the dart gun first!

I thought I'd broken the game earlier... was leading the scientists to the Citadel and we were jumped by some Enclave soldiers. My grenades injured my followers and they wouldn't come into the Citadel. I'm pretty sure I completed the mission (and got the 20G achievement) but it's still telling me to lead them inside the Citadel. I'll see if it works out later...

Also, since visiting Vault 112 I seem to have lost Dogmeat  Will he be back at Vault 101?! I miss the wee furry guy...

It all sorted itself out, after a kip I went back into the courtyard and Dr Li appeared giving me my next task.

Then, after getting trained in power armour, I thought I'd go back into the tunnels I'd led the science team through to look for Enclave bodies and steal some armour, only to find Dogmeat wandering around. Very odd considering the last time I saw him was when I entered Vault 112!!!

I started Op. Anchorage last night as I fancied a change, plus all the snow here got me in the mood for some Alaska action!

I actually really like it so far. Sure it's linear compared to the main game, but I really like the atmosphere and the change of pace. Sneaking around the narrow paths up the cliff face, it reminds me a lot of my favourite section in the original Half-Life.

I enjoyed Anchorage too, it's a total change of pace from the 'normal' game and is short enough not to outstay its welcome. The Stealth and Power Armour are well worth it too.

What happens when you finish it and you're 'back in the room' so to speak? I was in the armoury getting kitted out when suddenly all the geezers I'd been helping went batshit and started attacking me. Or was there a raid or something that I'd missed because I was wandering around going 'ooh, shiny!' at all the new toys?

if you hang out outside the room of goodies for a while, you'll witness an argument between the group leader and a guy holding a heavy weapon - this guy isn't happy that they've been holed up here in the ass end of nowhere for months trying to get inside this weapons cache and now they're just going to give you all the best goodies from their score. he starts shooting and everyone starts dying, and then they come after you. i was confused the first time it happened too!

also, yikes, point lookout is amazing! (started it last night)

Ah cheers, I thought it must be something like that.

I must get back into this really, bloody Modern Warfare has taken over my life, never mind just the Xbox.

that's the exactly reason. They don't see why you should get anything. I don't think you can avoid it. Pretty difficult for me though- at level 7.

After stopping this early in the year due to a game breaking bug that affected all of my save files, 55 hours in, I've partially forgiven Bethesda and have started a new game. Despite that, I'm finding it very difficult to play it at all differently than the way I did before...forever always a goody-goddy, is me :(

I'm looking forward to it though, there were a lot of quests I never did, although I got pretty far in the main story. This was my Christmas game last year....why shouldn't it be my Christmas game this year too? :D

I too am using the holidays to try and at least finish the main story arc + BS.

After 120 hours, I took a break and couldn't quite bring myself to pick it up again.

Probably best finish what I can before all the new stuff comes out in January. Between ME2, AvP, and Red Dead Redemption, I have my hands full.

And I'd still like to get around to Forza 3 some day.

Fuck knows how I find the time for a social life with all these games coming out.

And fuck knows how Beth ever found the time to actually finish and release Fallout 3.

My friend's a postie and he stole the GOTY out of the mail for me. It's pretty good. Pretty good.

You genuinely took something that was in all probability someone's present and typed it here so everyone could know? Fuck me.

Happy Christmas one and all.
