Fallout 3 - Official Thread

I took an involuntary break from this when my games collection was stolen by sister's ex, and I thought I'd be starting from scratch when I finally picked it up again - but the 80+ hours I'd already put in left nothing to relearn. It's been an absolute joy.

Finished Anchorage a couple of days ago - I think my level 21 character was just too powerful for it, I breezed through with barely a scratch on me - but it was enjoyable enough. The loot made it well worth the effort - the

Gauss Rifle

is so much fun to use and the Winter Armour, while ultra-powerful, feels well earned.

I too missed out on what actually happened at the end.

I was mooching about juggling the relative value of carrying one piece of heavy loot over the other when suddenly the entire base wants to tear me to pieces. I plodded, slowly out, fast-traveled to my Megaton house and dropped a load of loot before traveling back to take vengeance!

I'm still deeply in love with this game. I've even put off the annual Christmas Half-Life 2 playthrough to just walk around. My only concern is that I'll hit level 30 way before I come near the end of the mission list. I hit level 20 before I'd even visited Tranquility Lane (still haven't, actually.)

I have to admit, while my only gripe with the game is the difficulty in finding a slot between other games to actually play it.......it doesn't take long to get back into the swing of it. Literally half an hour and I'm blowing away greenskins like it's second nature.

That's after some months away from it too. For such a heavyweight game, it certainly deserves praise for being so accessible.

You genuinely took something that was in all probability someone's present and typed it here so everyone could know? Fuck me.

Happy Christmas one and all.

I'm afraid I don't celebrate christmas. I'm Jewish. What are you, some sort of anti-semite?

I've just got this - I was enjoying it but I've never played a game like this before - I seem to be unable to do any quests and I am getting bored. Should I explore places around megaton? I've got as far as rivet city.

have you found the (not very obvious) button on the top of that metal structure that gets you into rivet city? there are a couple of quests in there :(

other than that, try moira, do her quests. they are a great place to start.

:(

Yeah, just start with Moiras tasks, that's pretty much why they're there.

Avoid an ant-related quest given by a lil kid.

And don't think about straying too far into the wastes - definitely avoid downtown DC until you've levelled up a few times.

Otherwise, just try to scab as much good loot as you can.

Dear thread,

I'm level 25, and I've finished Operation Anchorage (pretty rubbish, but what amazing loot) and Mothership Zeta (also pretty rubbish, but at least I have some nice perks and some nice energy weapons). I thought I'd get those two out of the way since they were supposed to be the worst of the DLC, but the effect of doing so has rather wearied me of Fallout 3. It's my second time round, y'see, so it's not ben quite as fun anyway, and it's started to feel a bit like a grind as I've rather gorged on it of late.

Anyway, I'm at the last mission of the normal storyline, so pretty much all the DLC is open to me. I've decided to save the best for last, so Point Lookout is out for now, unless somebody convinces me otherwise. Basically, I'm asking which piece of DLC should I do next, Broken Steel or The Pitt? I'm a little wary of doing The Pitt as I don't want to be confined to one location for a long time. Nor do I really fancy hunting down 100 steel ingots right now (although my inner trophy whore won't let me do otherwise when the time comes). On the other hand, from what I've read, the Pitt forces one to make some morally ambiguous choices, which sounds more intriguing than anything I've heard about Broken Steel.

Sooo.... any recommendations? Thanks!

I'm in a similar position, in that I've done the main quest line then went onto Anchorage and Zeta. I've decided to go onto the Pitt next, before I go into the swamp and then finish in Broken Steel.

It's all a bit too easy though.

I wish I could erase my memory of ever playing Fallout 3 so I could do it all again fresh.

Doh! I had a quick check and they're still there. In the large room (with the enclosed lab area) immediately before the small room with the workbench.

noob did you not find any at the lady of hope hospital or whatever it's called?

it's weird that as soon as you're looking for something it becomes impossible to find. for a few hours the other day there were fission batteries everywhere i looked, couldn't turn round without accidentally picking one up and becoming overencumbered. then this woman gave me a quest requiring them and it took me forever to find even one. nothing to do with the game obviously, just my brain.

i went away for christmas and man, i'm glad to be back - mostly so i can play more fallout and street fighter...

I finished Anchorage yesterday, was fairly enjoyable but I was getting a bit fed up near the end. The loot you get is incredible though, especially the

Chinese Stealth Armour and Sword

!

The Gauss Gun is generally excellent except against Death Claws. For them I've been using a shotgun to the face. I cleared out Old Olney then headed downtown for the first time. I'm at level 17 now, still can't get enough of this game!

I had that Paladin wifey following me for a bit but she died. I've lost Dogmeat again... I'm sure he'll turn up somewhere!

Wait until you get to level 20/21. (Grim Reaper's Sprint) + Ninja + Chinese Stealth Suit + Jingwei's Shock Sword (Or even better, a Shishkebab with the Pyromaniac Perk) is pretty much unstoppable on everything bar Broken Steel introduced special enemies.

Noob, explain in a bit more detail, what happened exactly?

basically, part of the quest was 'speak to dad' and 'speak to little kid/bloke' and i didnt. but i finished the quest and got the trophy for it. just that i didnt finish that little part of it.

i hope it doesnt mean that i have to restart the lot. or can i return to vault 117 and do it again? just that i dont really know what to do now to advance the story, not that i want to, but normally there is an option to make something about the story the latest quest...
