Fallout 3 - Official Thread

I hate people who post stuff like, "My Gameplay order has only dispatched today!! What a bunch of cunts! Anyone here got their Gameplay order today?".

With that out of the way, I have a question. My Gameplay order has only dispatched today!! What a bunch of cunts! Anyone here got their Gameplay order today?

I started on this last night, the PC version, and as a huge fan of the first two games, I really didn't want to hope too much from this. It's been a whopping 13 years since Fallout 2 was released

or 10 years for those of us still living in 2008 ;)

anyway, I can't wait copy should be here tomorrow.

I can apparently exchange in store, w00t!

Cock, Piss and Arse.

I actually went down there and spoke to the manager chap in person and he said he can't break street date at all blahblahblahblah WANKER.

Fair enough but annoying, at least I'm going to do quite well out of it, online lunchbox pre-order £37, game on it's own for 360 £35, I only need to exchange the game itself and I can keep all the other tat. So I end up with the game on release day guaranteed and all the extra gubbins for only £2 more than normal...

At least i've got Fable 2 and Saints 2 t oplay tonight and then I can Fallout 3 it up all weekend. Was up for playing it tonight but hey-ho, that'll learn me not to be a retard with online shopping...

Played a bit there, the introductory gameplay sequence overstays its welcome but it sets up the scene and once it's done with that's it obviously. The wealth of options open to character development are pretty intimidating, just so many different perks and things to choose from. I really want to play it as a thief/ wordsmith hybrid but I always get scared with these games that I'll get 60 hours in and suddenly you need to be an absolute tank with a million hp to get past a certain boss.

The only thing that annoys me (and it's not the game it's me) is a I kind of feel all RPG'd out after the week of hammering fable 2.

Well, you guys sold it to me so congratulations. The finishline of Saints Row 2 is in sight, Dead Space will already be a pressie this weekend and there was a nice 15% offer on an already reduced RRP for this game so I thought 'what the hell' and bought it. Nice packaging and manual and all that. I might give the game a quick whirl although I think I'll keep it in the box for a couple of days to finish SR2 properly as it deserves it.

.::: The Dutch manual is atrocious. It's riddled with errors, typos and plain mistranslations.

I really hope Vems and co. didn't work on this one.

It's as if they accidentally used the first draft that hasn't been checked yet for spelling or grammatical errors. IIRC, Vemsie & Co were responsible for the excellent Beyond Good and Evil translation, so I'm assuming his company had nothing to do with something as amateurish as this.

I wonder why translations are almost always so bad. Bad manuals is one thing, but in-game translations? Saints Row 2 made me shudder, glad that I found the 'locale'-thing.

.::: A lot of translations are actually done through Excel sheets, giving the translator zero connection with the actual game. It also lead to 'unlock' fuck-ups in Dutch like 'Je hebt de deur vrijgespeeld' after using a key...

I think my (non-)favourite was in Saints Row 2. One of the menu options was 'Tonen'. Now what could this be.

It's both a verb and a noun. The verb means 'to show' and the noun means 'tones' (like sound or colours). A synonym of the verb means 'to display'. AAAAH, it's the 'Display' menu. While obviously 'Weergave' would be the industry standard and understandable one. Especially when you consider that 'Tonen' is usually reserved for ringtones in mobile phones.

Do you know, I had no idea this game existed until this morning when I saw the poster for it. Had a quick look online and started to get a bit happy about stuff, decided to buy it this weekend. Then, the postie came with a review copy for me.

It has been looking at me from my desk since then. Can't get shit done.

And I've got a DS night in the pub tonight. Hmm. Might pull a sickie from that.

Any publisher worth its salt has their localisation team proof read it before signing off on it.

DS night in the pub sounds awesome, tbh.

Not to mention the fact that we Dutchies often don't want or need localisation. We're used to reading/hearing English and often find translations and dubs annoying. So give us NO translation, or a GOOD one and the option to use the original language.

Ain't it? One of my fave videogame openings for sure. So well paced and crafted (and wildly different based on your choices, based on my 2 playthoughs).

They really stepped things up a notch since Oblivion in terms of character interactions and dialogue. This feels way more BioWare-esque. Or more importantly, Fallout-esque.

I'm finding this hard going, but I think I may be being stupid and/or missing something.

Early game spoilers

I've been asked to go the museum, but I can't seem to get there. I'm assuming I'm supposed to use the subway, but keep going round in circles, as the environments below ground all look the same. The waypoint marker seems to just show which general direction the objective is in so that isn't much help. Someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong, I guess I;ve been spoiled by Dead Space's dynamic GPS system

I really want to love this game, but its not making it easy!

Really looking forward to getting my lunch box edition now. Although, judging by the amount of time Play orders have been taking to get to me lately, it'll almost definitely be next week some time.

Really anal and annoying question for those with the lunch box edition: Is there an actual game case in the box, or is it just in a paper sleeve?
