Fallout 3 - Official Thread

When speaking of games released during this gen (PS3\X360 era), Fallout 3 is always one of the games I'm certain will end on my top 5 list whenever this gen comes to an end.

When I first played through it, before the DLC were released, I played as a good guy and enjoyed it immensely. On my second playthrough, now with all the DLC installed and a murdering bad ass as my main character, I was amazed to see how diffrent the game experience was the second time. I got new conversation options from key people, some feared me, others ran away. Heck, I even got some quests that had previously been unavailable. It was almost like playing a sequel, only on the same map.

This is also the only game of two in total where I've actively tried to get ALL achievements (the other being Borderlands).

Well that's sold it for me. GOTY Edition here we come!

Hang on, you're the same one who recommended Alice Madness Returns to me... you should be my personal games shopper

Might be worth buying on the next Steam sale. I bought Fallout 3 and all the DLC (except Mothership) at full retail price. Still worth every single penny.

Are you mad? The next Steam sale isn't until december.

I think it'll be easy to find it for cheaps in some shady retail store like Gamestop or something.

The Fallout 4 announcement got me in the mood for playing through Fallout 3 again with mods. I'm having major problems getting any of them to work, however. Does anyone have any experience with modding the game using Nexus Mod Manager and LOOT? I've installed and selected all the mods I want to use through NMM and launched the game through Fallout Script Extender, but according to LOOT none of the .esm files are active. In fact, the main one required for everything else to work, fallout3.esm, is inactive too. I have no idea how to activate it. Anyone?

Looks like a lot of people have had the same idea about replaying FO3 with mods since the FO4 announcement and are experiencing exactly the same problem: see here, here and here (this last one is exactly my issue), but no one has yet provided a solution. Hmm...

What's up with that bullet time stuff? Seems like cheating to me.

I don't know what level that guy is because he looks like a bit of a sponge there, but the mod also boosts damage by a great deal apparently, among around sixteen billion other changes.

2.3mil downloads and 20k+ endorsements. That's good going and pretty much puts it into the essential category.

It uses up the AP gauge and doesn't break up the gameplay as much as VATs. I like it, although it might be a bit too OP.

Oh I see that makes it better as I thought it was a permanent thing with no cost. I admit I only watched the first minute of the video before stopping and commenting, sorry.

Decided to finally install this over the weekend. It only took around 4/5 hours to get a decent sized mod list together. Went with FWE, MMM, EVE, WMK, RH Ironsights, and ProjectRealityMk1; as well as the usual HUD/UI mods.

Got everything optimised with the INI files so that it runs at a locked 1080p/60fps. Very happy with it. :)

The night skies were far too bright against the almost pitch black horizon, so I made my own night sky mod:

Got around to my first dungeon quest last night. The one at Greyditch where you have to clear out the Fire Ant problem.*

About halfway though, after a couple of really strong beers, I decided to go out for a joint (my first in weeks). I came back in practically spinning. Anyway, I switched over to Radio Existence 2.0, shot a Jet and Psycho for the first time and then went on this crazy stoned as fuck trawl through the subway system with the visuals pulsing. There were many times I got lost, going around in circles, but the whole thing was just utterly mesmerizing.

*Not sure I trust the scientist and his motives. Not having the skill to hack his terminals makes me suspicious.
