Fallout 3 - Official Thread

I spent a few hours on this last night, and I decided to really try and get as much as possible out of the game. This resulted in me exploring every nook and cranny in Megaton, talking to all NPCs, and I had a blast.

I'm amazed with the NPC details. I met one guy who essentially live a double life and he kind of alternates between three personalities, which is a first for me in a video game. The main reason I was intrigued with this character is mostly because he isn't a key character. He's probably a person most people won't even notice at all, but I saw him at his day job, followed him home to listen to him fighting with his missus and finally how he drugs up to manage to stay awake for his night job.

Essentially, there's no point to all of this, but it really makes me like the game better, as it does a good job at emulating living creatures with a personality. Where Oblivion had static puppets that walked around fixed routes, Fallout 3 seems to have a lot more believable settlements with actual people with actual fortunes and/or problems.

Great stuff.

Reports on other forum it's

£29.99

in Sainsburys.

Will there be any left?

Swindon Village still have loads. Best be quick though.

I loathe/love the radio. It's actually to th point where I'm strolling along in the wasteland singing along with all of the songs and headshotting everything.

I need the soundtrack.

So is nobody playing the PS3 version of this and can comment on the "it's the worst version" whispers that are circling around the forums / reviews / articles?

From what I heard the PS3 version is of course still just as good and just as much fun as the 360 version, it's only when you own both consoles that you have to be completely mad to go for the PS3 version as it's noticeably inferior. Not game-ruining, but noticeable nonetheless.

However- Okotta prefers the PS3 version, apparently the mutant ants have 'shinier asses'. Make of that what you will.

Omizzay has it, he seems to be happy (he posted about it a page or so back).

I have £40 of trade for Gamestation tomorrow s o it'll only cost me a tenner \o/

Shame I don't have time to play it till after chrimbo. I want that lunch box though :(

A tenner with £40 trade in? bollocks to that, ask them to price match Morrisons or Asda or something. £50 for a game in this day and age is not on.

I've got the PS3 version. It's fine. Maybe the other versions are better, but if you only have a PS3 then this isn't a reason not to get the game.

Aye, I don't have a 360, I do have a pc that is capable of playing it, but want to give the PS3 a chance and tend to find myself more often in the lounge playing - rather than upstairs in the office playing. Decision made then. Can always pick up the PC version later down the line for dirt cheap if needs be.

1) Has it got loads of stuff to explore like oblivion.

Yes. The map's smaller but it's still massive.

2) Does the levelling system work like oblivion?

No. Each area's level is fixed when you first enter it, and some areas are inadvisable to go in at all before you've levelled and tooled up.

3) Are the quests similar in structure to oblivion?

Depends. In many ways, yes. However, on my travels I have yet to find anything comparable to the mega-amazing Dark Brotherhood stuff.

I have Fallout 3 burning a hole in my desk here at work, and singing enticingly to me. I'll be playing it in a few hours, but, in the meantime, I have to know, right now:

The Rock-It launcher. I remember this being mentioned a lot before release, but, I've not seen anyone who's played the game mention it at all. I thought it sounded ace. A gun you could stuff random objects and debris into, to use as ammo. Has it not actually made it into the game? Or, is it there, but it's just no good and not worth mentioning?

It's there. A blueprint you can buy from Moira
