Fallout 3 - Official Thread

I've decided to make my character a complete prick.

I let Butch's mother die, killed him and then ransacked his house, taking some vodka from his mother's legless corpse.

I also killed Amata's father, not sure if that was part of the plot, I imagine it was. Having just arrived in Megaton I've killed the sheriff and mayor, just because I liked his hat. Now my character is running around town in a security suit and a cowboy hat.

I just started this. My fears have initialy subsided. This feels like a true RPG in the Fallout sense. And the graphics... so much better than Oblivion technically.

One question. Why do my AP always show 12/123 for example? Is there any way that they can be manualy replenished? I really can't remember how it worked in the first 2 games.

the 12/123 is your ammo*.

12 bullets in your gun out of 123 in total.

* I think.

Infinate XP - Not tried this myself but fo3fans.com claim it works fine!

* INFINITE EXP:

For infinite experience in Fallout 3, you need to be at least level 8 and have the Sandman Perk. Sandman requires that you have at least a 60 rating in sneak. It allows you to silently kill people in their sleep with an added EXP bonus everytime. So apparently, kids, or at least some kids, can’t be killed in the game. A good spot for this glitch is in a town in the South called, Andale. There are two kids, one in each of the two main houses that you can use this trick on. All you have to do, is use the wait function until it is about 1 AM. When everyone is asleep, sneak into a house, crouch, and use the Murder skill that comes with the Sandman Perk. USE ON THE CHILDREN ONLY. They won’t die, but you will still get the experience for killing them, allowing you to do the trick as much as you want. Best of all, using this murder trick has no effect on your Karma.

Been playing this for about 6 hours straight now, not at all healthy but this is like gaming smack. The atmosphere is incredible, at the moment its deffo my game of the year. It helped that I purposely avoided all info on the game in the press and forums too, I had no idea what to expect, so all this greatness is loverely!

The opening is great, then for a while it went very very flat for me. It picks up soon though. Atmosphere is quite good.

I quite like this, but it really is amazing how much it feels like Oblivion some of the time. The VATS thing is quite fun though, better than I expected - blowing off some poor junkie's leg (while Glory Glory Hallelujah plays) is great.

Hm, I think I'll stick it to one side till i've finished FC2, as I could get sucked into this.

PC owners - I'm taking print screens, with the message "ScreenShot1.bmp created" (for example) coming up every time I do - where the bloody hell are they being saved to? Using Vista, not in the My Games/Fallout 3 folder, or My Pictures...

Any ideas?

It's in the main Fallout 3 directory where the .exe file is.

I'm really, really enjoying it, five (and some more) hours in.

The opening sequence in the vault was brilliant. I redid a bit of the escape as I didn't manage to save Butch's mother first time, so my five hours is a bit longer there. Then when I made it to Megaton, I told the Sheriff about Mr Blake's plans, he went an confronted him, and to cut a long story short, I ended up accidentally getting the Sheriff, Blake, two bystanders and Moriarty all killed. I was shocked with myself.

After about half an hour's more play, I was overcome with grief, so reloaded an earlier save and prevented the deaths. So add *another* 45 minutes or so to that 5 hours

Then I went on Lucy West's Sexy Quest (it isn't sexy) and found... spoiler. But on the way, I stumbled across Vault 106, so after the Best West Test Quest Fest, I went in. Amazing! Found my first bobblehead in there (well, second really - there was one in the game box ;P) which gave me +10 Science. And now? I have no idea! So much to do! So many places to explore!

LOVING it.

I've got to the point in that quest where

the bloke who runs the settlement has sent me to find Ian West. I can't find him for love nor money but did stumble across some junkie ghouls in the train station wanting a hand with their drugs lab.

Unlike you I'm being a bit of a bastard at times, killed that bloke with the drug addiction in Megaton when I bumped into him raiding his stash, just cause he was irritating me. I'm also planning to kill the pimp/landlord guy who seems to be a dick.

You couldn't tell me where to locate the Family from Lucy West's quest could you?

I haven't found him yet either, but the guy does give you three map markers of places to look. One is a cinema.

Unlike you I'm being a bit of a bastard at times, killed that bloke with the drug addiction in Megaton when I bumped into him raiding his stash, just cause he was irritating me. I'm also planning to kill the pimp/landlord guy who seems to be a dick.

I only killed one person who wasn't part of a quest in my 200+ hours of Oblivion. And that was only so the Dark Brotherhood would contact me. And it was a guy who was a complete arse to his wife, so I didn't feel *too* bad.

But Moriarty will probably get his (again) at some point, as I feel sorry for Gob. I don't need him now anyway, as I broke into his saloon and hacked his computer to get the info I needed.

You couldn't tell me where to locate the Family from Lucy West's quest could you?

No, not done that yet - but the guy at the village-on-the-bridge tells you three places they could be hiding.

Absolutely superb.

The opening is great, it does suddenly give you the feeling of being out of your depth

just after you leave the vault and head to Megaton,

but stick with it for a little longer and going into the Wasteland just opens the game right out.

The supermarket was great, I play as a stelthie with lots in small arms, and thanks to the shady Nuke guy getting killed in the firefight I have a lovely silenced pistol. Crits like a bastard when hitting mobs unnoticed

Using the combat system is good once you get used to it (for the first few fights I didnt realise when selecting a body part, repeatedly pressing the R trigger will queue up shots until you run out of Action points.. doh! Now combat is a bucket of CAKE).

The instant travel on the map means even on long quests you can pop back to replenish ammo. The quests are good too, if a little dialogue heavy but the humour and character carry it through.

The world is just stunning, amazingly bleak and very spooky to wander around at night.

Got to go back!

Right now I am toasting my nuts in a pool of radioactive water in the name of scientific research!

Doesn't the arrow on the radar/map show you where he is?

Nope, I tried following that and it led me into Springvale, I reached the exact point of the arrow and there was nothing there.

If you enter the bar and then exit he should be waiting outside.

No luck there either.

Still, it might all be moot at this point as my 360 has started throwing up dirty disc errors on this game, and the drive is rasping, sod's law it would choose now to give up the ghost.
