The navigation is a pain, in all honesty. There's several times I've been right beside somewhere on the map, and unable to get to it because of something blocking the way in - usually something that wouldn't really hinder you in real life with just a little basic climbing skill.

.::: Don't focus on the map, focus on the markers. Solid marker is main quest (be sure to activate your main quest in your PipBoy!), transparent whatever you felt like marking yourself. When trying to complete the quest, follow the solid marker. It'll even tell you which buildings and subways to go in. Once you realise that it's actually difficult to become lost.

If you do that quest without starting a rumble you end up with access to another shop to buy stuff from too.

.::: And he's my main man. Dear lord, he has some very good merchandise. :o

Just got to GNR. Think it's picked up alot.

I hadn't realised you could do more than one VATS action at a time. *facepalm*

Combat's much more fun now! My silenced pistol and sneaking, plus multiple head shots mean it's good.

Question - I've horded loads of loot, but the shop in Megaton doesn't have any Caps left to buy stuff. I assume this comes back over time? If I leave the loot in my house to sell later, it wont "disappear" right?

If it doesn't have enough caps just trade it away for other stuff that you may need like stimpacks and ammo.

Power of the Atom + Tenpenny Tower spoilers:

I'm loving the game thus far, especially the way it makes every little venture out into the wasteland its own little adventure. Also the implementations of skills and perks to affect NPCs is very nice and if that isn't in the next Elder Scrolls I'd be very disappointed.

Although I'd seen it in previews, blowing up Megaton was incredible. I realise that I missed out some quests but it was just so badass that I couldn't resist. Bizarrely though I found it quite affecting and I decided that Tenpenny Tower must be annihalated. Coincidentally I then happened upon the Ghouls and the tower quest. After meeting with their leader I decided to open the secret hatch. However the hatch was locked so I waited until the guard leader was asleep and then pickpocketed the key off him. Then for good measure I ran back and planted a grenade on him :o Then having opened the door I watched the carnage and picked up my loot, a happier man. Although nothing has quite matched the Dark Brotherhood yet, the general quality of quests is so far higher than Oblivion.

You know I'm absolutely shocked at the 10/10 on EG for this. After playing it...sure it's well crafted but in a very lifeless way.

It will be something truly groundbreaking and aesthetically successful, be consistently enjoyable, get the balance right in difficulty terms, be technically very impressive, and be polished to a shine. It will leave the player in no doubt that they're playing something special right from the word go and will continue to inspire and amaze throughout.
The bedrock, as you would hope, is the game's immensely well-realised and beautiful openworld. Arty, varied and epic, it's crafted with attention to detail, housing secrets, lies, hopeless ambition and revenge

Varied and epic. It's more brown than Gears of War was grey, but where gears was hauntingly beautiful at times, this just seems like a cheap way of reusing textures.

The real excitement I got from the game was getting the missile launcher and fat boy and killing the inhabitants of Megaton over and over. Then reloading. Head shots with the hunting rifle are fun, slow mo deaths is great. But didn't Max Payne do this years ago without the dismemberment?

And the review that said "they should have got rid of liam neeson [and his wooden performance] and spent money elsewhere" is absolutely bang on. Often I'd say this is tripe but goodness - get some new animators or invest in some motion capture!

I really want to like this but it feels so uninspiring. I killed that whore at the start, that was fun, then agreed to "hire" Nova in the bar and yet I couldn't sleep with her. Why not? I'd paid, do I have to buy a stupid expression like in fable? :o

I think the wasteland really is varied. I stumbled on a railyard/foundry today which was being used as a slave pen by raiders, and with a massive corrugated iron prison in the middle of it in which there was a trapped super mutant behemoth.

Also today I've explored a ruined, booby-trapped church and an almost-intact area of suburb. And I want to find the promised 'green land' that's being talked about on Galaxy News Radio.

Really? I knew about doing it indoors, but on the overworld I was using the map - I'm pretty sure there were a few bits where the solid arrow on the compass was pointing towards my general goal but there was something in the way.

With this news however, I might have thought it just kinda glitched and was telling me to go through a subway (which you apparently need to do in several instances) rather than overland.

Oh yeah, and I hit rivet city early for a subquest and skipped part of the main story. I've never been to the Galaxy Radio area as a result. :o

Tiny spoilers (a couple of locations mentioned from first 5 hours of the game):

How on earth do I get to Rivet? I just spent two hours in the Capital Building thinking I could go through the other side and head south, only to come out the north side again. My Dad's waiting and I'm stuck in the Mall.

Help please!

Try following the river?

How come the lovely artwork in the book looks absolutely nothing like the game? How come the game looks just like Oblivion with its washed out browns and greys? The combat is dull as fuck.

Am I missing something?

Oblivion was washed out browns and greys?! Is there something wrong with your TV?

And the artwork in the book *is* like the game. You just haven't seen the locations in the game that are drawn in the book yet.

Am I right in thinking that explosive splash damage doesn't effect your followers? I VATS chucked a grenade at a Super Mutant not realising Dogmeat had run in to attack. The Supermutant was airbourne but Dogmeat didn't seem to be hurt. Was I lucky?

Dogmeat has a massively high HP in this, he's very resilient.

How do you get to the GNR plaza? I've tried the Farragut Station that is meant to be the one to get you there and looked everywhere. There's one door that requires a lockping skill of 50 to get through, is it through there?

Try the intercom next to the door?

So on my 4th attempt at creating a character I just said fuck it and created a gunslinger. First mission after Silver was to explore the super duper mart and outside was a fight with about 6 raiders, shot one in the head (which exploded) - it's starting to feel like fallout.

Although in saying that, and being contrary to what some of you guys are saying, I think it's gorgeous, but is too po faced. The other fallouts were very grim too, but had a sense of humour, this doesn't. And another thing, good god it's dialogue heavy, even by rpg standards.

I don't think I like the game actually, which is disappointing as I love fallout 2. I'll concede I haven't given it much of a chance, and after all, fallout 2 had a shockingly bad opening. I'll persevere but if you have to say that about a game the signs aren't looking good.

You've been lapping up pretty badly- those five vids were released everywhere- and linked in here and talked about

The video showed a bomb going off. I don't recall anything about it being the town of Megaton. It was only when Burke told me he wanted to blow it up that I put two and two together.

The videos released showed you getting the quest off Burke, arming the bomb, and then the subsequent detonation. It didn't really leave much to the imagination. :o

It was a set of 5 videos- sounds like you just watched the last one- one of them showed exactly how you got that quest and even exactly how to complete it

edit- Yeah, like Rudi says :o

I haven't seen that video. Only the bit where you're at the top of Tenpenny Tower and the bomb is detonated.

You need the perk to use the Pre-war books right?

Also difficulty in this is a complete mess. There seems to be no "way" to find out how tricky an enemy will be before you fight it (And see what damage you do).I ended up surrounded by Fire ants and died fast at one point. This is actually making me explore less because I can't be arsed to get potentially get killed far to easily every 10 minutes. At least along the main quest the difficutly curve might make sense.

Somewhat oddly it's also quite hard to "find" people. Took my ages to find Lucy again in Megaton and I can't find Walter for love nor money.

How do you get the blood pack perk? :S

Just got to Rivet City - Blade runner anyone? :o
