However this finishes it should be kept in mind that the three players who underpinned the good team performance of the first hour, were the three who were subbed.

Martial was carrying a knock though, so needed to come off, the other two... well, Fred fucked up, baffled by Cavani though.

I didn't notice the knock. Fred's fuck-up was one incident he shouldn't have been responsible for. Over the course of the entire match he was well in credit.

that was garbage, abysmal defending to concede a goal like that. no control again in the middle of the park. Sombody need to tell Bruno HES NOT THE FUCKING STRIKER!!! And he NEEDs to get back into the middle of the park !

Sancho looked like Sancho though when he cam on at last! looks like he just needed some time

United's best XI started that game.Varane can marshall the backline, and I'll take Lindelof's extra pace over Maguire. Pushing the whole team up helps more.

Ronaldo and Pogba are luxuries, and if they're on the pitch allowances need making elsewhere, to cover for their lack of pressure (Ronaldo) or any kind of defensive awareness (Pogba).

There's a decent United side in this squad, and it's being fucked by egos.

Because Everton weren't in the game when they had no time to be, which was when United's centre-forward ran his arse off to deny them any.

Right, so Ole subbing Cavani off is Ronaldo’s fault?

Ronaldo should have had the game off, which I thought is what Ole was doing - managing both forwards so we get the best out of both. Regardless, their goal had nothing to do with our forwards, it came from our own corner.

To be honest, it's pretty obvious that the reason Martial and Cavani came off is because neither of them are match fit enough to keep up that level for 90 minutes.  Cavani's performance was the reason we were controlling the game fairly well, but I'm not sure him being on the pitch would have made much difference to the goal, as it didn't come from his area of the pitch, and I don't know if he'd have chased all the way back with Townsend.

I was very encouraged by Sancho's performance when he came on. He was excellent. It's a shame he fluffed his chance, but his skill and intelligence looked our best weapon in that last half hour.

Edit - and as well as he played, the equaliser is on Fred.

Sancho was very lively.

Cavani staying on would have made all the difference to the control of the game. Whether the goal came from a United corner or not is irrelevant - players were burdened with more than their workload, and a side is always easier to pick through under those circumstances.

Had United been two up, those subs would have been a risk worth taking for the opposite reason. Everton would have had no choices but to leave gaps to pinch through. Even Benitez does that eventually. At only 1-0 it was a daft gamble. Even if it had paid off in full with another late winner, the side would have had another exhausting day of it.

The starting XI had control of the game, and with that some control of their own engines. They could have made different subs and kept that intact, but went full whack with the two glory boys when there was just a one goal lead to defend.

Hard work and talent, beats talent alone. There might be the odd giddy battle won, but over a war you need to put in the effort. There's not a single top side has done otherwise.
