The old Man Utd Thread

To be honest I thought Boupa Diop was your best player by a long shot.

Diop is one of the most underrated midfielders in the league.

A cut price Henry could be an amazing signing, I'd say. On a short term contract, even playing only half the games to rest his dodgy back, he would add the really unstoppable pace that United sometimes lack.

Really? I don't think I could ever accept him as a Man Utd player. I'd just see Arsenal written all over his smug face. And the thought of him wearing our shirt is just...wrong. Plus I don't think he'd ever choose to come here, regardless.

Fergie said we should have the new striker (but failed to mention any names) by the end of this week. Excited ;)

Just got back... Fantastic weekend. Just don't ask a TomTom to direct you to North Wembley station (through an industrial estate that leads to nothing) or to a McDonald's (down a random back alley with no McDonald's in sight). Match was boring, atmosphere abysmal. Wembley is amazing though, breathtaking.

And the opening ceremony put Beijing to shame! Here's a link to it on my Facebook, hopefully it should work. I'll put it on YouTube if not. It included... Segways!

Carrick was on the bench (recovering from a virus), Hargreaves is injured (surprise, surprise!) and Anderson is at the Olympics. So yes, Mr do-it-all was in midfield. And he did a grand job of it as well!

Just to show off a little, I was given front row tickets on saturday night, totally unexpected as well. I was level with the penalty area we attacked in the second half and where the penalties were taken.

Observations-

scholes is far smaller than he looks on the tv

nani is musclebound

peter crouch is not human

Valencia reject Silva offer

Agent confirms winger wants to stay in Spain

David Silva's agent has told Sky Sports News that Valencia have turned down an offer from Manchester United.

Premier League champions United have been linked with a £20million bid for Silva as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to add to his squad before the close of the transfer window.

Domestic rivals Liverpool have also been mooted as admirers of the Spain international, who impressed during his country's successful Euro 2008 campaign.

Reports have suggested that the winger could be sold to ease Valencia's financial problems, with Barcelona also linked with a bid.

Silva has admitted that he has 'no desire' to move to England and would prefer to join Barcelona, if he were to leave Valencia.

And, despite acknowledging United's offer, the player's agent Julio Llorente has confirmed the 22-year-old wants to stay in Spain.

Settled

"Manchester United made an offer for David Silva, but this has been turned down by Valencia," Llorente told Sky Sports News in a statement.

"Silva doesn't want to play in England because he is happy at Valencia.

"His family are settled and if he was to move it would only be to another Spanish club, like Real Madrid or Barcelona.

"David Silva will start the new season at Valencia."

I think you guys could do with a winger as well as a striker. I mean Giggs isn't the same player and should really be used as a substitute this season then a starter, Park has had injury problems over the last two years and Fletcher is useless wide right. That leaves you just with Nani and Ronaldo.

Also according to reports, Berbatov seems to be on his way.

C'mon, Berba!

We don't need another winger as long as Park manages to stay fit. I'd like to see the kid Martin involved in the squad a bit more this season, he looked like a real handful of a player in pre-season.

Heny looks likely to play tomorrow in the champions league qualifier which would rule him out. I don't know why you would prefer him to Berbatov, he's past it and 31, would also cost in the region of £15m. I don't think Fergie has ever spent big money on a player in his 30s.

Please god not Henry.

A winger would be a nice addition in all fairness but not something we really need for this season. I wouldn't rule out Giggs to be honest yet either. He's still got a lot to offer. Park is a difficult one, I really really like as a player as I think he's a very intelligent winger and adds something to the team but his fitness problems over the last 18 months or so are worrying.

Then we've got Martin who I don't think will make it, but did feature a lot in pre-season so he may well be in Fergie's plans.

A striker would be do be rather nicely, mainly Berbatov. Berbatov with Ronaldo and Rooney playing off sounds just too good to be true.

Giggs would never be expected to play all season anyway, but hes still an excellent player. Fletcher has done well again during pre-season and was pretty decent down the right against Portsmouth. A midfielder is definitely not a priority unless we get a few more injuries.

Was disappointed to see Simpson go out on loan to Blackburn but at least he'll get some premiership experience this year.

I'm pretty confident about the new season, hell we did a double last season with this squad and some of the players were in their first season in the prem. Regardless of if we get a striker both Ferdinand and Vidic look absolutely imperious at the back, another couple of successful seasons and they could arguably be the greatest center-half pairing we have had.

Well I guess I'm alone in wanting Silva to sign then. I can understand what some of you are saying, we do need a striker more, but god he was outstanding in the Euros, I can't believe you wouldn't want him at the club.

Personally now, I'd like to see us sign Huntelaar or Benzema over someone like Berbatov or Henry. I appreciate that Berbatov is a great player, but 25million plus for a 27 year old is a lot of money. I'd rather we bought someone younger who can mature with the likes of Anderson, Rooney, Nani, Ronaldo, Tevez etc who are all under 25.
