The old Man Utd Thread

Spurs badly need a couple of new players and although holding out for a massive fee for Berbatov is admirable the transfer window is rapidly closing as quickly for them as it is for Man Utd.

We don't need the money if that's what youre trying to ipmly. We've done great business this window and our ins and outs are pretty blanced, we've got plenty left to spend.

Without wanting to sound rude...remind me of your forwards? Assuming Berbatov stays, you'd have him and...Bent? I understand that Ramos is looking to pack the midfield with super creativity and play with one striker but all the same...

Pekhart is a massive talent who should be coming through to the 1st team (possibly in the CC) this year but we are light, but to suggest we sell one of our strikers to buy another is a bit rich! We are light at the moment (and personally I would have rather we kept hold of Defoe even more!) but there's still time and money.

By my calculations, as of now we've spent just under £46mil and have received around £49mil (taking the £23mil price quoted for all 4 players who were going to Sunderland as still applicable even though Kaboul went elsewhere), so we've basically not even touched our budget yet, so the assertation that we need the money from any Berbatov deal is quite simply wrong.

Ah yes, I'm not really questioning Spurs' overall budget. More that if Bertbatov does move, dispensing with Bent as any sort of a top 5 league position striker and considering the new Ramos midfield and one forward*, you would need to replace him. You'd either 1) immediately spend the same sort of money on a similar quality player or 2) take another slight risk in signing someone at half the price.

*assuming that's how Ramos wants to play.

Paper talk According to Marca, Manchester United have made an offer for Ajax striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as an alternative to Dimitar Berbatov. Real Madrid have shown an interest in the Dutch ace and Marca claim United have bid for Huntelaar as a minor act of revenge for the Spanish champions' pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo

Oh La Marca! <_<

Wow, sold Pique and Silvestre. It's like we want to get rid of our whole squad

I'm loving the Silvestre to Arsenal to be honest. Personally loved the guy and gave a great 9 years to the club however it shows that we don't really see them as rivals anymore :(

SAF has already said that Evans will replace Pique as defensive cover and as you say he does seem to highly rate the Silvas so I expect them to get quite a few substitute appearances. Anyway, goodbye Silvestre you probably have more medals than the entire Arsenal squad combined!

He was never going to get first team football at Utd anyway, we've survived without over the last 2 years due to injury so transferring him to Arsenal won't matter too much.

With Evans and the Da Silva twins all looking ready for first team football I think its a good move as it gives the younger players more of a chance to get games.

So its ok to take the mick out of us for playing youngsters, some fans even going so far as to call our manager a 'paedo' but its ok for you to sell one of your most experienced players for bugger all to let the kids get a game? Rrrriiiiiigghhht

The other plus side to the transfer seems to be some ludicrous hypothetical scenario involving own goal in a final that doesn't exist.

Take the mick all you want but I think we've done quite well out of this deal

Err... You're in the Man United thread, here. You know, the team that's had young players as it's foundation for over 50 years.

And as for as I'm aware the 'paedo' chants have never been because of Wenger's youth policy, more his unerring look.
