The old Man Utd Thread

Your squad for todays game looks immense on paper. The attacking threat looks ridiculously good!

Man Utd (from): Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Brown, Simpson, Bardsley, Ferdinand, Vidic, Silvestre, Evra, O'Shea, Carrick, Hargreaves, Eagles,

Fletcher, Scholes, Giggs, Ronaldo, Rooney, Nani, Anderson, Tevez.

I think it looked much worse when you see it first time, not so much on the replay. But referees only get to see it once, so.. understandable.

P.S. Reading are frustrating cunts.

Reading have done all they could do, really, especially after the sending off. Man United have been disappointing.

A Reading fan here, surely that didn't warrant a sending off?

Yeah, it looked nasty but the amount of tackles that you see like that.

I think it was a red. If you go over the top of the ball it's dangerous play, especially showing your studs.

Another Reading fan here. I thought he was unlucky, he didn't go over the top, he was late granted, but only a fraction from when the ball leaves his foot. Didn't Andy Gray say something stupid like 'he went out to get him'? Couldn't hear as I was down the pub, but I'll call him a twat anyway.

Bikey up front... :)

I thought we deserved our point, you guys dominated, but we worked our socks off.

I'm a Man City fan and I loathe Rob Styles after he sent Distin off for not giving him the ball but I can't argue with him on this one. Andy Gray was saying it was harsh and that other referees would have understood the challenge, possibly taking no action. I think he was talking rubbish in this instance though. I don't think Kitson was trying to block the ball down the line and Evra followed through, like you see quite often. I think he went at the ball (and therefore the player in possession) and whether he miss-timed it or whatever he went over the top and hit Evra pretty hard.

I'd have to see it again to be 100% but my memory is that he went over the ball and that's enough to be a red.

Same here, I'd have to see it again. I thought the ball had just left and he came through, don't get me wrong it was a shit challenge, I didn't think it was a red card though. Then again I'm a Reading fan.

At least we can both agree on Rob Styles. He did try his best for united :)

I know, I meant that as a compliment. They've defended really well, we haven't been incisive enough... disappointed.

You could say that, or you could say they parked a bus in front of the goal!

United mauled them for 93 minutes, but as you say; you just couldn't find that incisive moment. But it's hard when the opposition aren't even trying to score or push anyone forward.

Rooney looked sharp, bullish, motivated and dangerous, it's a shame he got injured, let's hope it's just bruising.

Wes Brown had a good game I thought, he overlapped well, not that he had much defending to do.

Scholes was involved a lot but I think he was not creating enough and needed to attack through the middle more.

Nani looks the part already, he didn't have a blinder but he looks to have a great shot and end product to his skillful runs, probably should of started ahead of Evra.

As soon as SAF works out his best team and has players back from injury, we'll see a very strong United.

Ah shit...just what we need to start the season with.

Hopefully Tevez is fitter than I expect and can replace him asap (and score lots of goals too).

By the way, I'm loving the Man Utd enthusiasm max. Keep it coming :)

Such a shame, as Rooney was really hungry for the ball today. If he hadn't gone off @ half-time, he would've surely of got us a goal. I think the problem today, was that we didn't use the width well. We seemed to want to go through the middle. Which is silly, with players like Ronaldo and Giggs on the wing.

Yep. Not nasty, just careless. Playing with fire if you go in studs up like that.

Fair play to reading. Hahnemann was great in the second half. Coppell did what he had to:

I'd have loved to have gone 4-4-2 and seen what happened but we'd have got hammered.

Exactly - when you're a team like Man United, playing at home against a side like Reading, you really have nothing to complain about when they come for a draw (especially if you can't break them down).

If it keeps Rooney off the pitch you know it's serious. I hope Tevez isn't fit for the derby game...
I thought SAF had said Tevez was surprisingly fit and that he wasn't in the squad because he needed a rest after Copa America, I may be wrong.

Yeah, he said the other day that Tevez should be ready for the City game.

What a start eh, 2 points dropped and Rooney breaks his foot. :)

i know, it's disappointing but what more, other than score obviously, could we have done? we absolutely battered the shit out of them.
