The old Man Utd Thread

Missed opportunities.

The amount of times in these two games we could have put it out of sight, and ended up conceding needlessly instead.

Bayern are a good team and have done well, but really do have the luck with them this season in Europe.

Conceding just before half time is always a horrible time, that and the harsh Rafael sending off really fucked us. How many warnings did he get before either of those cards? None that I could see.

He didn't deserve a warning before the first booking to be fair. I thought the second booking was a bit harsh but it was still daft. It's such a shame, he was having a great game and we were on top. We were bound to struggle after that. I bet he feels absolutely crushed right now.

To be honest, Bayern Munich did not look like a good side at all to me. Why we were so abject last week is beyond me because they showed again today that their defence is shit and they had no real cutting edge even against ten men.

Also Carrick was shit again. What's happened to that guy, seriously.

I see why Carrick doesn't get more games now...

Indeed. Night and Day between him and say some of Barca's midfield yesterday. He looked slow, ponderous and was often getting caught in possession, one of which eventually led to the corner (I think) in the build up to that cracking Robben volley.

Carricks fine when given time to pass but any kind of pressure and his passing turns to shit, scholes is/was the master at finding space when tightly marked and Fletchers pretty good as well. The worst thing is that when he losses the ball he's never in any hurry to try and win it back.

Maybe Anderson can finally come good next season. He's not shown much evidence of it this season but then it's easy to forget that a few months ago Nani couldn't even get into the Carling Cup team and everyone was expecting him to be sold this Summer. Carrick and Scholes have really blown hot and cold this year, Fletcher deserves someone better alongside him regularly.

Also maybe Hargreaves will stay injury-free

LOL :o

Looking back, I can't actually believe what a catastrophic collapse this was. After truly dominating for 43 minutes, to let it slip is completely is just flabbergasting.

United of old would never have let this happen. When 3-0 at home up with an away goal in the bag you shouldn't have to need to desperately defend and sacrifice all attacking play - even with 10 men, thats not what United do. We're also not doing combacks and late goals any more it seems - something we're famous for, attacking spirit till the last second. The last three matches for example I have never been confident like I always have been that we might (as we so often do) pull something spectacular off. Its been the same all season, Villa, Burnley, Everton etc etc.

And Rooney might be injured again now too! :o What a week!

I cannot fathom for the life of me why in the name of all that is holy Rooney wasn't taken off once he got that knock.

He could barely fucking move. He wasn't chasing anything, made no effort to join the play and could barely kick the ball. We were 3-0 up (albeit briefly), even with a two goal advantage the obvious move is to replace him with Berbatov, an expert at holding on to the ball at all costs and a clinical striker to boot. Utterly baffling. Seemed to be pure stubbornness on the boss's part.

I've never seen such a poor performance once down to 10 men. I've seen it galvanise us in the past. Bayern were devastatingly good at keeping possession, but we panicked and played like we had 8 men, not 10.

Still, positives, eh. We won. We played an entire half with 10 men and still beat the best team in Germany, that's not too shabby. Rafael and Evra were incredible until the former's ridiculous red card. His second yellow is one of those "sometimes they give them, sometimes they don't" decisions. I said to my dad when he got his first yellow that he'd get another for holding later on. Just didn't expect it in the 46th minute. We were hamstrung from that moment and the result was inevitable.

Fuck me. Rooney gets injured last Tuesday and the season's over eight days later.

The first was pretty cynical and a yellow for me. The second is probably just about a yellow by law but plenty of other challenges went un-carded so it's frustrating in that respect. Rafael still shouldn't have done it mind and I do worry what effect this will have on his confidence as him and Nani and Fletcher were the best players on the pitch in the first half.

Probbaly both yellow card offences in their own right, but these days you'd expect the ref to have a little "compassion" and not give two in succession like that.

@ AngryH

GET OUT. If you don't want that reaction, don't troll in this thread. CaptainLeChuck can also get bent. I am a committed supporter of United, but I respect other fans and I won't go in their threads to gloat.

Yeah Bayern played well, took their chances. The sending off changed everything, but they fought for the result and I can't say they don't deserve to go through. You're assuming a lot. Don't.

Cry me a river you goodtime bitch. I didn't come in to gloat particularly. Don't fucking talk to me about being a 'committed supporter'. Fucking LOL. You and the rest of the cornish/leeds/london fans. Fucking LOL. Glory hunting psuedo rags.

and NO I'm not interested in your 'right' to support who you want. Massive YAWN. Get down to Robins, the shirt matches your hair.

EDIT: and a quick skim through the City thread shows you and TBB trolling.

You and the rest of the cornish/leeds/london fans.

You're just guessing here, and throwing random insults to boot. Your guesses are wrong, obviously while you were searching for my 'trolling' in the city thread, you could've learned that. Fact is, I've never come into another team's thread after they've lost, just to take the piss. You did that yesterday. What the fuck are the individual teams threads for? Take it to the football thread.

Guessing WHY? Fatbob is from Cornwall, TBB is from Leeds (as is Trigg) and I'm sure Mr Do is London way.

So it's gone from:

I respect other fans and I won't go in their threads to gloat.

to well I don't go straight in after they've lost, I give it a little while!

you GAYs are all the same. When it goes you way it's celebrations and triumphalism. When it doesn't it's crying about it like a bitch with a cut knee.

Oh, well, as long as you're sure.

I don't go straight in after they've lost, I give it a little while!

I don't gloat at all. Which is more than I can say for you.

I liked how you capitalised 'GAY', that cut deep. The schoolboy insults were also heartbreaking.

Racialist?

Sir Alex Ferguson was angered by the behaviour of Bayern Munich's players as Manchester United crashed out of the Champions League on away goals.

Ferguson felt referee Nicola Rizzoli was pressured into showing United defender Rafael his second yellow card.

Bayern got the decisive goal as United played the last 40 minutes with 10 men.

Ferguson said: "The young boy showed a bit of inexperience but they got him sent off, everyone sprinted towards the referee - typical Germans."

Of course the Man Utd players would never pressure the ref. Hi Gary!
