The old Man Utd Thread

The competition this season is way tougher than last year in the middle of the table. One of about 12 teams could make it into the UEFA cup and all should expect at least a 2 point average at home all season. You just need to look at the top of the table right now. The league has no laughing stocks. It's gonna be tight but I still think we can see it through.

This is, indeed, the best united team in YEARS. We're better on paper and we've proved it previously on the pitch too. Plenty of games to go yet, eh. Last season at Fratton Park we got fucking slaughtered.

Its not like Chelsea won't draw a couple of times this season is it? These were tough games that we barely won (Reading) and lost (Portsmouth) last year.

Exactly. We've beaten Portsmouth once at fratton park since 2003. Definitely not an easy win.

Now if we lose to city I might get a bit pissy, but I really think this is the best United team in a good few years. Once Rooney & tevez get a good understanding, and start to link up in front of distribution from scholes/ronaldo/giggs/nani/carrick... we're going to be unstoppable. It'll take a little while to click, but when it does there'll be no looking back. No team in Europe can compete with that, imo.

Now, let's get ready to shit on the city.

you can say all that as much as you want. simple facts dictate we're 4 points behind chelsea already, and we've used up 2 of our draws which should have been wins. simple numbers really innit.

2 games does not a season make, especially when your lot aren't going to be weakened in January unlike Chelsea.

Not to worry, last time you started as badly as this you won the treble.

They've never not won either of the opening two games of a Premiership season before, apparently.

plus, like i said, if i'm wrong bring my post back up at the end of the season and ridicule me.

Nah, I'll bring it up now and ridicule you, don't be silly.

If I had to be either a Man Utd or Chelsea fan I'd rather be in your shoes at this moment in time. You look completely solid at the back, only allowing the odd chance per game on the break, unluckily you were punished today. You're also creating 10's of chances per game, you just need a bit of luck in front of goal and/or someone to come back in the side to put them in the net - once that happens you're completely sorted.

Chelsea on the other hand are leaking goals and chances from every angle, they were lucky not to concede twice as many as they have so far. Granted, they've got the firepower up front to put them in the net but they can't rely on wonder strikes from Drogba to win them games every week. I don't think Terry coming back from injury is going to completely solve all their defensive troubles either.

Stop moaning about nothing.

Fair enough. Season over then I suppose. Last one to leave turn out the lights pls.

Seasons over after 2 games? I've heard it all now. Get a grip.

Good game tonight Utd fans, you were brilliant frist half and deserved to go in more than 1 up, but you shouldn't be too harsh on your players for the second half performance, I tihnk it was more a case of Pompey upping their game after an earful from 'Arry.

Don't worry Chelsea still need to come to Fratton aswell. :P

Not even Barcelona's Eto'o, Ronaldinho, Messi and Henry?

That's just fucking scary.

And 1-1 hmmm. At least we're still undefeated.

But it's not like we're going out there and being dominated by these lesser teams. We're just not converting chances (How close was that scholes chance!!!). As Jose says, Chin up boys and girls.

It really is. I don't see why they couldn't play as a four that could constantly shift position. We got Barca in the Champions League last season and I hope to hell we avoid them this year in the early rounds at least. There's not a defense on the planet that will shut them out over two games.

Don't you remember Real Madrid? They had all the superstars in the world but were know where near a solid unit. Man U have (unfortunately) proved back in the 90s that solid, well put together teams win you league titles. You wouldn't say all their players were superstars!

What makes a superstar ?

Beckham

Keane

G Neville

Hughes

Cantona

Giggs

Scholes

Schmeichel

The above were among the worlds best at the time. We're not talking Greece in 2004 here.

Anyway, come this Sunday, City will reckon they can turn us over. Which means that they'll not sit back and defend like usual, and we'll rip them apart.

Someone is definitely due a mauling and it might as well be City, they've been obliging in the past.

Hey, I wasn't having a go at Utd on that one. I just meant, Vezna was thinking you can't get any better than Messi, Henry, Ronaldinho and Et'o because they are all huge flair players. The same with Real, Figo, Zidane, Raul, Ronaldo etc etc. These are what people think as superstars or galacticos. I just don't think Barce are gonna be unstoppable because of those 4.

In your instance, a team of Ronaldo's would not win you jack. Put him in there with Scholes, Carrick, Hargreaves etc and you're gonna win something.

That was all.

I'm having a few quid on a draw for this on Sunday.

Behind them they have Xavi, Marquez, Puyol, Milito etc. If they can get their tactics and formation right then apart from Valdes they are an incredible looking side. Who is to say the front four will actually start as a front four though? As a neutral I really want to see it at least once.

Christ what a load of drama queens. As was mentioned briefly earlier but then ignored the African Nations Cup is going to have a big impact on this season. If Chelsea get through that period where they will lose Drogba, Essien, Mikel and Kalou without dropping 4 points they will have done very well indeed.

The season is not over by any stretch of the imagination.

Ok, Messi, Ronaldinho and Eto I'll give you. Henry was good a few years ago too. 'spose the rest of Barca don't look to bad either.

Once our lot gel tho, I'd be optimistic of our chances against them: they may have more superstars, but we have so many options coming from midfield it's scary. Not to Portsmouth and Reading, granted, but it'll come :D

I'm very surprised someone mentioned that Nani played well last night.

I thought he was pretty awful to be honest and that a lot of attacks broke down around him. Not sure who told him that he could take corners either because he clearly can't.

Chelsea lose on Sunday, which is very likely in their current form and Man United win then the gap will be nothing.

All week I've been saying that it would be very United to draw with Reading and Portsmouth, lose our two biggest stars, then beat cITEH at the council house. These are the kinds of situations Sir Alex has built his career on: them against us, odds stacked against us, who the f do they think they are.... etc. I'll be somewhat surprised if we don't win today: these are the games Ferguson lives for, right?

2-0 United. Scholes & Tevez.

Hope to god I'm right.
