Rooney's statement seems to be intimating that Ferguson is going next season and together with the financial situation the club can only decline.

If Ferguson is leaving next year it makes a bit more sense. Not a lot more, but a bit more. Especially if a replacement has been pencilled in and Rooney doesn't like him.

Moyes? His statement could be read that way especially "For me its all about winning trophies - as the club has always done under Sir Alex. Because of that I think the questions I was asking were justified." and "For Manchester United's sake I wish he could go on forever because he's a one-off and a genius" but I cant really see it. If anything I would have thought that he had at least a couple of years left in him as surely he wants to break the record for league titles. Of course maybe the truth has dawned on him that this will be impossible while the Glazers are in charge but with financial constraints in place I cant see anyone else doing a better job.

As for the game tonight I also thought Anderson and Fletcher were good. Both gave us some drive from midfield, something sorely missing from Carricks game. I Would have prefered Hernandez to start up front on his own although hopefully the reason he didn't was because he is now seen as a first choice player. Still cant work out why Park was even playing, he doesn't have enough quality going forward to offer anything against teams who are going to have less of the ball.

Who the fuck does he think he is? He wants "assurances about the continued ability of the club to attract the top players in the world".

Fuck off.

He might as well say "Hernandez, Bebe and Smalling aren't on my level".

We have never bought "the top players in the world". Cantona, Schmeichel, Ronaldo, all plucked from obscurity or career resuscitated. Van Nistelrooy, Ferdinand, Rooney himself were not guaranteed successes despite big money being spent. I assume he was unhappy when we signed Vidic and Evra too? I mean, who the fuck were they before they signed for United?

We didn't stand for it when Keane was slating the team and we shouldn't now. He's a disgrace.

Whatever the reasons for him leaving, Rooney is going about it in a most amazingly cack-handed and self-destructive manner.

I doubt he'll play again for Manchester United after the statement yesterday, and I think Ferguson is going to tell him that this morning.

It always makes me laugh when fans and players bang on about us always buying world class players completely forgetting that they become world class at United and are very rarely bought at that stage in their career. The only genuinely world class player we have ever bought, who was actually world class at the time of joining us, was Veron and that was hardly a spectacular success was it.

The transitional period we are in now doesn't feel all that different to when Rooney actually joined the club so he should know better than anyone how that can turn out. I hope Gill gets on the phone to Real today, sorts out a nice big transfer fee and Rooney can just stay away until he leaves in January.

Everyone knows that club has been financially shit for ages. That doesn't explain a sudden change of heart between March and August.

Apparently this started after the season/before the World Cup, which some have lead to believe played a part in his poor performances.

Also in March what had Man Utd won?

Come the end of the season what had Man Utd won?

There's a pretty clear reasoning and course there. Unless you count the league cup, which we don't.

There is no club in the history of the PL that has won 4 titles in a row and I can't imagine it has happened very often in the English top division period. It's not like we were far away either, I expect you would kill for Liverpool to have a season as 'bad' as ours was last year. As I said in my previous post he seemed quite happy to join United in a transitional period yet doesn't want to stick out another for what might amount to a season or two without any major trophies. If it wasn't for him saying he wanted to sign a contract that would make him a United player for life only 6 months ago I might be a bit more sympathetic but nothing he has said, or the timings, add up to yesterdays statement.

Quote

Sir Alex was in rousing mood on Wednesday night as he collects his thoughts following one of the more dramatic, and disappointing, weeks in his time as United boss. Here's the transcript of his post-match press conference...

"To maintain the success at any football club is not a certainty, i.e. I always believe a four-year cycle is probably the most you can achieve in terms of success. Very few teams can create more than that four-year cycle. Last season we almost did it, we were one point short of winning the league for a record fourth time.

"We realised that to maintain that high consistency of being there challenging we had to inject youth into the club and we’ve been doing it for the last three or four years. We realised some years ago that Giggs, Scholes and Neville were never going to last forever and our policy is therefore to develop players within the club. We had a player that once said to me Rooney and Ronaldo weren’t good enough. Can you believe that? He actually said they weren’t good enough and he wasn’t prepared to wait until they were. That’s what happens, that’s the problem with potential – people don’t identify potential, they’re very poor at it. I’ve identified it all my life within young people – I know potential, I know how it can be developed and I know how to have faith in it - young people surprise you when you give them an opportunity. And that’s what this club is about. So when you see Manchester United at the moment with all these young players, you can’t see Manchester United three years ahead because you’re not thinking about that.

"We will invest in players when the time is right. This summer wasn’t the right time as far as I was concerned; there was no value for me. There was one player who we would have liked to have got but he chose another club. I don’t think he ever wanted to come to England anyway. Some players don’t want to leave their country, it’s a fact of life, some players are happy in their own country. Some players are happy to leave and Manchester United is always a big attraction for any player. If they don’t want to leave their country then we forget about it.

"In terms of the future of Manchester United there are a lot of things in my favour – history, the respect we have from people – if I told you how many agents phone my secretary every week about players who would love to play for us - and I don’t just mean run of the mill players, I’m talking about players at almost every club in the world - it would amaze you. It’s because this club still has that fantastic romance and respect from everyone.

"Sometimes you look in a field and you see a cow and you think it’s a better cow than the one you’ve got in your own field. It’s a fact. But it never really works out that way. It’s probably the same cow which is only as good as your own cow. We have to deal with that – some players like to think that it’s a better world somewhere else, it never really works like that.

"As I said, three Premier League titles in a row is fantastic and we were within one point of a record fourth. It didn’t happen for us and we didn’t like that and we want to do something about it. We’ll be okay – I’ve got every confidence in that. We have a structure at the club which is good, we have the right staff, the right manager, the right chief executive, he’s a brilliant man. There’s nothing wrong with Manchester United, not a thing wrong with it. So we’ll carry on."

Sounds like the words of a man who runs a club with no ambition, doesn't it.

I'm always moaning about his constant team changes and his support of the Goons, but he's been brilliant these last few days. His team talks must be so epic.

It's sad that all said had to be spoken, but with him in charge the club will be just fine. In a way it's alarming that Ferguson is still making the unprecedented offer of still leaving the door open given how the player has acted, but I guess that comes back to his bending of the truth.

Loved the little snippet at the end of Sky Sports coverage last night.

Quizzed earlier on Sky Sports about Rooney's assertion that Manchester United failed to match his own ambitions, Ferguson retorted: "Have I won 30 trophies or what? Thank you, good night."

Bloody hell, that's a low blow, there's no need to bring Coleen into this.

It hasn't - only Liverpool, Arsenal and, of all teams, Huddersfield Town have won three in a row prior to the Premiership.

Who here is saying that we are exempt or that it's perfectly fine to happen to smaller clubs?

Nobody makes such a big deal of it if its a small club. This is huge because Ferguson is crying about shit that happens to smaller clubs every week and is an accepted part of life. Keane was right when he said players are treated like meat, so don't be surprised if someone wants to leave. Like Ferguson signing those youngs kids Tosic or whatever, fulfilling their dreams then telling them to fuck off. If you're not good enough then football is brutal, and Man Utd are not good enough for Rooney now apparently so suck it up and cry me a river, bitches!

Statement:

"We are aware that there is intense public and media interest on the club at the moment, but there are no developments of note to report today. I can confirm a number of meetings have taken place today, including with the player's representative. The outcome of those meetings will become clear in the near future. In the meantime, fans are asked to be patient."

If you'd bothered to pay attention most of the fans issues stem from not really believing that last bit is true which makes your entire argument pointless.
