So many of those 'striker's tackles' get let go though, if it's not cynical and it's not dangerous then I think he can use his discretion, let him get away with a yellow. Anyway SAF has thrown on Hernandez, clearly he wants to reduce the goal difference gap with Chelsea.

I see your point phresh. You can blame the ref for not being more lenient, or you can blame the two sent off for Wigan for not controlling themselves, but either way it's made the game a bit dull.

Great goal from Hernandez, relatively low on comedy value but an excellent take. Game=over.

Na, course it's a red. Just because he doesn't nail him is irrelevant. The dude has two feet off the ground, making his challenge dangerous and reckless and it's a straight red. Just because others have got away with it doesn't make this incorrect, it makes the others wrong.

Thought the first guy more than deserved his too, he had loads of challenges in the first that were worthy of a yellow.

---------------------

Thought the first 45 where another incredibly bland and dull performance, though seeing the team selection it was no surprise. It's fucking boring typing for the millionth time that the front five has little creativity about them but that's just the way it is. Lots of effort and running, but so little guile.

Only the last fifteen did we look anyway dangerous, was that because of they had 9, we had Scholes and Rooney or that the formation changed? Bit of all three I thought.

Rafael great going forward, skinned at times by Insomnia. Club needs a right back desperately, everybody knows to attack down that side and they'll get results and that's what happened again. Nevilles finished, Brown isn't much better and I'm so unconvinced by Rafael it's untrue. O'Shea is probably the most effective defender but really he should never be first choice. Maybe Rafaels defending will improve but I get the feeling the manager is unconvinced too seeing how much RB has been chopped and changed.

Glad to see Giggs is back in contention for games.

Because it was like a training match at that point. Why are you always such a downer Jon?

I'm not on a downer. I've not seen the match yet, but with 9 men I don't see any reason not to go at them all guns blazing to close the goal difference gap Chelsea have on us. What's wrong with wanting my team to have a bit of hunger and actually give something that the fans might enjoy?

In fairness Jon the last 15 minutes we bombarded them with crosses and could have scored more, the chances were created. Rafael was putting in some great stuff, hence the great going forward bit in my other post. Evra misses a sitter, Fletcher could have scored, Rooney has a few chances, Chico too. I only listened (but have seen a clip of the red and goals) and the chances were made, it was down to poor finishing and good saves that there weren't more.

The first 45 was fucking horrific and no surprise, and that's an opinion formed from listening to the most partisan and pro United biased commentators in the world on the local radio. Sounded like Wolves Pt II, though maybe that's my inference from the team selection.

From what I saw Rafael had an excellent game, most of the space N'Zogbia got was through the middle. He was really playing as a second striker until the sending off's.

I think he gets a lot of unfair critiscism regarding his defending to the point where it seems almost par for the course. If you were to analyse his performances I doubt they are anywhere near as bad as many people make out and he isn't exactly getting a lot of (useful) support from in front of him either. I'm more than confident that he can make the RB spot his own.

Well I just watched MoTD and it seems we were pretty much camped in their half after their second sending off. It was a bit shit to see so many wasteful attempts on goal though, I have to say. Although Hernandez's header was as skilful as always.

I thought they were very sneaky in bringing Rooney on at the same time as Scholes, as they knew that any boos for Rooney would be obviously drowned out by the cheers for Scholes. Quite a clever move really.

There were a few spots of possession for Wigan in the first half, but were really assaulted them in the second after the reds and seemed more of a match to let the players relax a bit and get into the groove. Rafael is a great little full-back and will be our first choice for the next decade I'd bet. Neville is gone at the end of the season, sadly, the other two old guard on for another season I hope, Scholes especially showing why he deserves and is worth of another year (at least) - thankfully his game isn't all about pace, just precision which doesn't die with age.

Terrific burst into the box and backheel from Fabio. He always looks top class going forward, and I certainly think he's an option in midfield or attack. Apart from that, Rangers aren't offering a whole lot in attack and are defending well. They're forcing us down the flanks, where we can't do anything but knock it in and they're coping with that.

Rangers are playing this pretty much the same as the first leg. Defend in numbers, then hope to grab a goal on the break. They don't deserve to go through the group with such negative tactics.
