The old Man Utd Thread

I gotta say, in this day and age of zero loyalty Ole (if I'm allowed to call him that, being an outsider and all) has shown you guys a hell of a lot of loyalty. I don't remember ever reading in the press anything about him moaning or complaining about getting games or not being first choice.

It's quite refreshing to see a player behave like that and just get on with being part of a successful squad.

I bet he's got a good few medals to show for it and a few quid too, and from what I'm reading here he's obviously a favourite with the fans. Good for him.

It's always sad to hear a player has to retire because of injury.

Indeed and I think he also got fairly involved with the breakaway club when the Glazer's came in.

Was just watching sky sports news, they were showing parts of an interview they did with him not so long ago and he was looking really optimistic, saying "I'll strive to come back a better player than before. Knee permiting, I hope to play for as long as Teddy!" and really looking forward to this season. It made me really quite sad for him. Still, he did have an amazing career at Old Trafford. It's players like him that show people like Heinze how fickle they really are. He was a model professional throughout his entire career. Hope to see him in the manager's seat one day ;)

Cheers Ole! Thanks for your amazing goal against the Germans, which gave us the European Cup and the Unique Treble

Thanks also for being a model professional, and I'm glad he's staying @ Manchester United as a coach. Which will be great for all our youth players.

Solskjaer scores a record four goals in 12 minutes against Nottingham Forest as United win the 1998/99 Premiership title.

Superb.

Quote from NTSC-uk, remember this?

One moment that I remember of his was against Newcastle in about 1998 when it was 1-1 in the last few minutes and we were pushing for the win from a free kick because the league was in the balance. A Newcastle player broke out and was in on goal, and Ole chased him and hacked him down in the process, getting a red card but preventing what would surely have lost us the game. You don't often see someone who will take one for the team like that.

Legend.

I think to say that was one of his best moments insults him, to be honest.

You can see him saying "I had to" to David Beckham.

That moment encapsulates Ole. He gave everything for the club he loved. He loved to play football, he loved to score goals and he loved Manchester United.

Fergie has confirmed he wants another striker before the transfer window closes according to football365. Berbatov is the main target. I can't see Spurs selling him now - maybe next Summer so I reckon someone like Anelka is a more likely short-term fix.

I think its probably too late for a big move like Berba, especially now that Spurs have upped his pay.

I wouldn't be surprised if a loan deal takes shape, like with the Larsson deal. Maybe Eidur G from Barca? Someone like that.

Eidur isn't a striker either he likes to drop deep and you have plenty of pleyers like that. You should go for Adriano. He seems available.

It's a real shame to see Solsjkaer retire but he can look back on a career that many footballers will envy. It's a shame that he'll never go down in history as a 'great' striker. He may have lacked pace and some skill but he had an eye for goal which many top strikers miss. I bet if you worked out his goals per minute ratio (or something) he'd come out pretty well too.

I reckon he'll manage Manchester United one day.
