The old Man Utd Thread

Rooney and Hargreaves both fit for Wednesday's Champions League match.

Thats good news

Although the results are slender they are still results which is good stuff, I think its a matter of time before the team clicks as a whole. I kind of want to see more of Anderson but he just doesn't seem on the pace at all at the moment

Nani has adapted amazingly quickly to the pace and style of the premiership, and I couldn't have asked for more from him these opening 6 games. He's already single-handedly won us a game (tottenham). I don't understand what more you want from him. He's done a hell of a lot more than Ronaldo did in his first season at Old Trafford. Plus it's early days yet, he can only improve.

In other news...

Silvestre out for the season

Now I don't rate Silvestre, never have, but he's been more than decent cover for Evra at left-back this season. I think this is a big blow, particularly since turncoat Heinze's buggered off to Real. If we lose Evra for any length of time during the season (which we invariably will at some stage) then we'll be quite stuck.

O'Shit, Bardsley and Pique can play left back.

John Terry 29/08/2007

Not as good as Essien's calculator, but, :)

Some header that was. Can't wait to get Rooney and Saha upfront though, really not liking Tevez and Giggs upfront, Giggs especially.

Nani, not done great, but that's the third game now he's had a massive part in winning for us. Obviously there was his shot against Spurs, but the crosses against Sunderland and yesterday too.

Thats all very well but I do believe it was you lot in this thread who were saying your season was over after the first two games and it was the Chelsea/Liverpool/Arse fans who were saying how ridiculous that was.

To be honest out of the "Big Four" Chelsea and Man Utd have definitely looked the weakest and are both lucky to be on the number of points they are on.

To be fair Chelsea and Man Utd have lost their most influential players from last season Rooney/Ronaldo and Drogba/Lampard. Also Man Utd dominated their first three games but didn't get much from them, so I wouldn't really say they were lucky to be on the points they are.

I would like to see if Arsenal and Liverpool can continue their form during the champions league.

Na, it was Brown who used a single hand to win that game*.

Interesting how being a goal scorer= sole reason for winning, wonder if others players like Vidic who cleared off the line subscribe to that.

Personally I've found him infuriating. He falls over far too much and then rolls around crying. Take Saturday... play was stopped instead of advantage being continued as he was acting like he'd died. There's been little end product and if he's done so well how come Evra keeps playing left wing and we've created so little the last few games?.

Not saying he's rubbish, or doesn't have potential, what I did say was he was pivotal in our last three goals. Just his overall performance hasn't necessarily matched. I subscribe to the theory that Ferguson will kick the crap out of his bad points, like he did Ronaldo.

Also, Ronaldo V Bolton in his half hour debut > Nani so far.

* It hit the G in AIG, not his hand. Honest!

Thought Scholes was excellent, as usual.

Thought Nanni was pretty appalling, and seems frighteningly adpet at misreading the play and giving away the ball.

Thought Saha looks very shakey, that Tevez is clearly overweight, and that Carrick was absent without leave.

Thank God for the solid back four and solid keeper holding it all together.

Think Chelsea are looking to do some serious damage come sunday. Don't think Man Utd can ride this luck much longer.

Ferguson was let off today. His side was toothless.

-Stop playing Rooney alone up front and get regular striking pairs in rotation.

-Stop playing Giggs and Nanni together on the left and neutering Evra's attacking play.

-Give Carrick room to breathe in midfield and push scholes forward.

-Get Fletcher on the first plane to nowhere.

Well, they will be now. I'd have said Chelsea were ripe for the taking until they sacked thier manager - never a good thing for the opposition. Apart from that, I think this team is now only a bit of confidence away from becoming the force to be reckoned with in the Premiership again; and there could be no bigger confidence boost than beating Chelsea on Sunday.

It was a terrible pitch last night and the biggest victory of the night was Saha not getting injured on it.

jon obi wan kenobi sent off. a bit harsh to be fair.

united have been pretty dominant so far and they've been a lot more attacking minded which is good to see.

Meh. What a mean-spirited farce of a game! From a neutral point of view anyway. Good result for United but wow. Shit refereeing, nasty tackling galore from both teams, ref-surrounding, dives and injury-feigning... bleurgh. I think I just tipped over the edge into not liking football or something ^_^

It's for all teh doom-mongers. Bunch of new players, our two biggest stars injured or out. It's a long season.

and I have to say, Chelsea losing was the right result for the game, too. The way he treated mourinho was a fucking disgrace: would have been a crime if they'd gotten anything from that.

yea, arsenal look good but they've not left london yet. Let's see how they get on up at OT & anfield.

Nice one Tevez & Saha! It wasn't the greatest of games, and it turned into a training match almost for United in the second half. But f**k it, WE WON! ^_^

LOL

How can you be happy?

I support Utd and im not happy what so ever!

The referee ruined the game and we were weak to be brutally honest.

Happy for Tevez but thats it.
