The old Man Utd Thread

I'm sure you wouldn't come into our thread etc tbb :(

Apparently Ferguson has said that "Rooney and Carrick were ill" which is why they didn't play. To be honest 1) they were probably pissed. 2) What sort of excuse is that when you've got OMG TEVEZ and 3) Carrick is rubbish anyway so it would hardly have matted :P

I heard Tezev was pish anyway. He's rather inconsistent isn't he?

Get rid and get in Berbatov. Also LOL.

He's inconsistent with blistering performances i'll agree.

But when he's on the pitch he's a menace, he's always a threat and he works his socks off. What that means is that even when he's having a quiet game he still needs a defender, maybe two, keeping a close eye on him. When he left the pitch we lost that and WH were able to make better use of their players.

An interesting little piece of providence I stumbled across on another forum, concerning a corolation between the English and Spanish League champions in recent years:

2000/2001: Man Utd-Real Madrid

2001/2002: Arsenal-Valencia

2002/2003: Man Utd-Real Madrid

2003/2004: Arsenal-Valencia

2004/2005: Chelsea-Barcelona

2005/2006: Chelsea-Barcelona

2006/2007: Man Utd-Real Madrid

2007/2008: ????????-???????????

.... lets put it this way, i can't see Valencia taking back La Liga this year....

The Spanish scummers seem to have it sewn up already. Works well for us though eh?

Thats like the kinda shit The Sun bring out near the World Cup "Why this IS Englands year!" then some weird timeline going back to 1966 somehow making a pattern that would follow with England winning the World Cup this year. Of course it never gets pulled out with "Pattern load of bollocks" after we don't win.

IIRC, the pattern they came up with at the last World Cup, suggested Italy would win.

Anyway, only an interesting coincidence.

Berbatov then? I'd have him in a second even though I'm not sure where he'd fit in with the current telepathic setup between Rooney and Tevez. I just think everything about him looks class. I dont think he'll leave in Jan though but I'd love to see him in the summer. I didnt know he was 27 though!

West Ham was a shite but they deserved the win. I still have faith that we have the staying power and squad to prevail.

A poster on another forum I visit as come out and said that a deal as been struck for Berbatov which involves Brown going the other way and cash (Around £25M). I don't normally believe these statements, but he said the same thing about the Tevez transfer before it hit any media. So there's a small part of me that thinks it might be true.

We can do nothing but hope. Unless you're one of those freaks who don't rate Berbatov

Would be great, i just doubt that Fergie would make a major signing like this in January, they already said they weren't looking to buy untill the summer.

My only guess is that; with interest from Chelsea also reputed and Brown wanting out, then it might go ahead. And if Brown goes that would mean splashing out on that much needed defensive cover on the wings earlier than desire too. Names like Lahm, Shorey, Hutton et al are being touted.

Tbh though, i thought any swap deal would involve Saha, and I know Spurs were after Nani (although that would never happen ofcourse)

Fingers crossed though eh.

Apparently Real are sniffing around Ronaldo again also.

I'd have Berbatov at the drop (especially if Louis went the other way) but I dont see him moving until the summer.

45M is the figure I read on BBC gossip Real tabling for Ronnie. Another one of the papers has said that the deal is 'already done' but most of these rags print more lies than truths.

I can't see Ronaldo leaving any time soon either. And if he did, it would have to be more than £45M surely. Arguably the best player in the world, at 22. And also very marketable which in turn brings millions of pounds back in.

I do expect him to leave in the future though, maybe 5 years or so. He obviously as ambitions to play in Spain so I wouldn't be surprised to see him go there in the future.

No more news on the Berbatov front at the moment. The guy who says its happening is still sticking to his guns and saying it should happen. He says Spurs set a price and Man Utd have matched it so its only a matter of time.

Could be an interesting few weeks.

He'll leave United one day, but not until he's at least 26. Personally I don't see Ferguson going for Berbatov, we can't afford £25 million at the moment can we? Espeically after spending so much in the Summer.

Man Utd are hardly skint!!!

We sold Rossi for around 6.7 million, Smith for about 6 million, Richardson and Heinze for about 5 million each(thanks Roy  ) Fergie can justify improvements of the squad to the board. The thing is Berbatov's cup tied for europe though isn't he

£600M in debt would suggest otherwise Aidey

But no, I think the NET spending this year isn't too high considering the reported fee's we paid for the players we brought in. I read that we've only paid something like £15M for both Anderson and Nani. Obviously this will rise. Plus, we did sell a few players and got a decent return on them. So maybe there is money there to spend should we need too.

Fergie would not sell Ronaldo but then he isn't the owner of the club and there might come a point where the decision is taken out of his hands. If it means the difference between making the interest payments for a couple of years and saving the 100 grand a week that he is paid then the Glazers may allow Ronaldo to go.

I know the Glazer's are Yanks an all, but I doubt there that stupid. I honestly don't think they would go above Fergie and sell a player who he wanted to keep. If he goes, it'll be Ronaldo or Fergie's/the manager at the time.

£75M is a bit more reasonable. Still tell them to f**k off mind.

I can imagine Fergie going in to a meeting with the Glazers for them to tell him they are selling Ronaldo and him coming out with the club keeping Ronaldo and several Americans on the board suffering from tinitus.

Being serious though the club is in a huge debt and there could be a realistic point between 45 and 75 when the board say yes over the managers head even if it does mean Carlos taking over at the helm. I don't think Real will go that high but I think it is a possibility.

Ferguson has said this morning that he won't be signing anyone in January.
