Heinze is a quality player. If we sign him we have got Kewel, Riise and Aurelio for the left side. If they were to sign Mancini (can play on left or right) and Heinze i would be very surprised and happy.

From Skysports:

Asked if Bellamy will be leaving, Benitez said: "Possibly. We have some clubs asking about him and it's a possibility.

"The only thing I can say is that Crouch will be staying with us. I have said to Crouch that he must fight for his position and he will stay with us."

Benitez also played down rumours linking him with a move for Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze.

The Spaniard says he is looking at bringing in wide players rather than defenders.

He didn't quite say it like that, but Bellamy's going. I kind of feel bad for him, they sign a player and the player goes on about how they're LIverpool fans and it's a dream and the next season they're sold.

But I've changed my mind about Torres, he seems super-cool.

Have we ever signed a Man U player before? I really don't like the idea, but I do rate Heinze...when he's not being a prick.

We haven't signed or sold anybody directly to or from Man U in 43 years or something similar.

I think Heinze is a very good player and I'd certainly welcome him to the squad despite the fact he has played for the enemy for the last three (?) years.

What's wrong with this thread, though? We've just signed Fernando Torres and broken our transfer record in the process! I'm over the moon with this signing, I said in here months ago that I wanted one of Torres or Tevez brought in for the summer, I can barely believe we actually managed it. Those that doubt him suck cock by choice* wait and see, he's different gravy.

*Sorry, I've been watching too much Deadwood.

He's fucking quality too. The kid's (see what I did there?) got everything. Pace, power, technical ability, the lot. I can't bloody wait for the season to start. There's just the small matter of a winger or two, a left back and some centreback cover (seems like a lot now I've written it out) to take care of now and we're good to go.

I'm very pleased to see that G&H have put their money where their mouth is, but I want to see how Torres settles in the league before going mad. I've seen too many great players not cut it in the league for us for one reason or another.

Yeah, that's fair enough but I thought there'd be more excitement generated by this signing than there has been so far. He's a massive talent. He's like Spain's 'chosen one' or something.

I think that's what everyone's waiting for... I'm delighted we've got Torres, I think he's exactly what we need up front, but I can't shake a nagging worry that we've spunked all or most of our cash on one player and will have to compromise on the arguably more important issue of the wings.

I'm not worried about the wings at all. I think we'll sign somebody for the squad like Benayoun and the bulk of what's left will go on somebody with real quality to play on the wing. Probably Simao (very good player, can play on either wing and is a set piece specialist) but we've also been linked with Mancini (yes please) and Malouda (not as exciting a prospect as the other two, but a good player nonetheless). I think the right is sorted now, so my money would be on a left winger, a left back and a centre back. I think Benayoun, Simao and Heinze is a good shout. We've also got the money from player sales to come. Bellamy is probably off to West Ham for about £10m and there'll be more.

Edit: Hmmm, that always seems to happen when I quote you for some reason.

A good friend of the family was on the board at the time and when we asked about Collymore he said the same thing. That they all thought he was the best striker in the world at the time and he himself had witnessed Collymore doing outrageous stuff at the drop of a hat in practice games. No defender could keep up with him and he would score goals from all over the place. They really did believe that he would win us the league. However, when he signed there were already concerns about his temperament with minimum effort put into training and feigning injuries to get out of fitness work etc. They really believed it wouldn't be a problem as he would simply get picked for every proper game and just do the business. Unfortunately this upset a lot of the other players and combined with Evans' lack of man management everything went downhill rapidly.

Yea he did seem great - the only thing was that...well he was trouble EVERYWHERE he went. Was it going to change at just a big club?

He was dead handy in his prime though; Ulrika Jonsson will testify to that.

Right then, one down, a few more to go. Who else do you lads want to see signed this summer? If we could only buy one more out of the players we have been linked with this summer it'd be Mancini for me. He could replace King Luis in terms of unpredictability, flair and versatility. He's ridiculously gifted with the ball at his feet and can play pretty much anywhere as long as it's an attacking role, but is best used on the left wing. Seems like the player we're missing to me.

WHY THE FUCK ARE WE TALKING ABOUT COLLYMORE WE JUST SIGNED TORRES!?

I would because since Collymore and Fowler Liverpool have never had a really threatening forward line that would always keep a defensive back line on its toes during the match. And I think Collymore is one of England's greatest lost talents who threw his career away.

What do you think will be our first choice up front pair next season then? Torres and Kuyt for me, with Crouch there as a super sub. Don't know if Voronin is any good. Obviously has potential else Benitez wouldn't have signed him, but you know.

Owen and Heskey/anybody else he played with weren't bad. Owen was scary enough on his own back then.

We know Rafa will rotate the strikers and I think there are enough games for all four (sorry, Bellers) to feature pretty heavily but I think in most big games we'll be seeing Torres and Kuyt start. With Torres in the team Kuyt will be free to push up and sniff out goals, something he is very capable of but didn't really get a chance to do this year because of the forwards he was working with. As I've said before, I think Voronin is going to surprise quite a few people. He is quite similar to Garcia in that he can play between the lines and is versatile enough to play on either flank as well as the 'second striker' role. I think he'll do well for us.

If we can bring in somebody creative that weighs in with say 15 league goals and can provide plenty of assists to boot, say Torres for argument's sake, who we could probably get for £20m give or take. That would improve on what we've got and leave plenty of cash to improve the wings. In my opinion, that would make us a much better team than just splashing it all on one striker.

Was just reading through some old posts there and I found this little gem. I reckon I should make some more comments on what I'd like to see happen with the club, it is clear somebody is taking notice.

I even got the fee right. B)
