There are positives to take from the game, I'm sure given a few days allowing for this feeling of overwhelming frustration and contempt to leave my system I'll be able to comment in this thread regarding these positives. But right now, I'd just like to call Styles a cunt again:

CUNT!

:)

This "he only booked Terry" stuff is nonsense as well. He had already booked Terry, sent him away and was talking to Essien before brandishing the card again. Whoever he was booking there, whether it be Terry, Essien or Benhaim, had already been booked. I had a horrible feeling something like this would happen after the first half.

Not to mention Essien's reaction upon seeing the yellow card coming out again. Load of bollocks from Styles that. Liverpool should feel rightly hard done by.

Still on the evidence of today's match I can see you lot mounting a serious title challenge (hope these words don't come back to bite me in the arse, would certainly make for a more interesting title race)

The thing is that if we cant win at home against the top teams we wont.

Last season in the opposite fixture to this Chelsea beat us 1-0 despite us outplaying them through a wonder strike from Drogba.

Thats the difference between us and them it seems :)

Agreed, choddo. When the time comes for a trip down to Stamford Bridge I'll be confident that we can return with the 3 points. We just have to improve our consistency against the lesser sides away from home, something we've gone some way towards addressing if our opening day victory is anything to go by. I don't want to get carried away but I do feel the squad is capable of challenging over a season. I also believe Rafa has addressed the problem areas from last year. You only have to look at Torres' contribution today to see that.

I see what you're saying but I dunno... it's hard to account for dodgy refereeing decisions like the one that did you in today.

Other than that I can't really recall Chelsea troubling Reina all that much during the match. The only one that really comes to mind is the Pizarro header which he probably should have scored from. On any other day you'd have won it 1-0 or perhaps nicked another one, much like one of the results against Chelsea last season.

I just thinking going forward you look a lot better. Kuyt and Torres looked like a good partnership. A few more games playing together and the understanding will probably develop further. I see a lot to be excited about.

No surprise Carragher got booked. You can see him on the replay pointing straight at Styles and calling him a cheat. But you can't blame him. "Well I never! That was the most unbelievably incompetent refereeing decision I've seen in all my born days. I urge you to reconsider!" doesn't trip off the tongue quite so easily. You should be able to get cards rescinded for being provoked in such a horrendous fashion. I hope Styles apologises. And then I hope he never referees another Liverpool match again.

I was watching football focus yesterday and although I've no interest in the scottish league, I noticed the commentator said at least three times 'The card was later rescinded by the FA.' I don't think I've ever heard that happen in the premier league.

I am still fed up so thought I would bring up something positive instead.

Has anyone else been really impressed by Arbeloa? I didnt really expect him to be anything other than a bit part player for us when he was signed but he never seems to put a foot wrong and seems pretty versatile. I thought he had another good performance for us today.

He's been excellent in pre season and the two Premier League games. But, his days at left back are surely numbered when Heinze arrives. To be honest I think Arbeloa has looked better on the left rather than the right. He's a steal at the price we paid for him.

Gutted about the result. Watched the game, even screamed at the telly.... I'm still angry.

What a fucking shit ref decision (amongst several). Put it this way: If I was on the opposition I'd welcome it but feel dirty for days.

Yes I do. I don't particulary want Heinze at Anfield but I'm not Rafa Benitez.

Not doubting that you want him, I just can't see us letting him go to you. How to piss on a legacy in one swift move. He is good tho. Nails.

Side note: it annoys me more than I can put into words that I actually like Benitez. Pleasant, charming, self effacing. A Liverpool manager that's impossible to hate. Annoying.

I was just reading through the last couple of pages thinking i'm gonna say something about him actually.

I'm not gonna dwell on yesterday, I don't think there is anyone who watches football that doesn't believe we were robbed yesterday. What I would like to say is how much I think we have improved as a team. Some of the sublime one touch passing yesterday was sheer  . At times we were passing it around Chelsea players at such speed they may as well have been cones on a training ground! I'm very much impressed with Arbeloa though. As you said rjpageuk, he really looks like a solid versatile player who quite happily coped with most things down the left yesterday. I would happily see him on the starting XI in the future. I thought Riise did pretty damn well against Essien too. Lets be honest, he ain't a winger so he's always gonna struggle to get past people but yesterday he was turning up all over the place. It was like he was given a licence to roam! :( Torres looks every bit the player I thought he would be. He picks the ball up and just loves to run at people. His goal was taken superbly (that pass by Gerrard too :) ), really made Ben Haim and Cech look like mugs. One player I thought struggled a little was Alonso but by the end of the first half he had seem to have woken up. He was dwelling on the ball a little at the start and losing posession. I was also very impressed with the ease of which Finnan and Pennant were taken apart Chelsea's left side. Both looked brilliant yesterday and its good to see Pennant brimming with confidence. If only he had made that cut back to Torres and we would have definitely collected the 3points. I would have liked to see Crouch come on a little earlier though because I think he really is a threat to any side. It was extremely encouraging to see Rafa stick Babel on very shortly after the goal went in. He seems to react to situations a little quicker this season. As for Babel, I felt he could have gone at people a bit more but he's definitely full of promise. That cross he put in must have been travelling at light speed. I was seriously  at the power of his shot in to the side netting too.

Anyway, all in all I'm really loving watching us this season and we will have payback against Chelsea, no doubt! :)

What was most enjoyable for me was seeing the difference between Gerrard's and Terry's attitude throughout the game. Terry almost lost the plot on several occasions, niggly fouls, trying to wind players up (Torres mainly) and then Gerrard who just let his football do the talking.

Also Carragher and Agger =

I think people forget how young Agger is, what a partner to learn from though.

Ha Ha thats exactly how I'm feeling.

You boys looked really good though. Carragher and Agger have the measure of Drogba like no other team we've played. Torres looks dangerous. Babel looked good too. I think you guys could really be a challenge this season.

I saw you say that in the Chelsea thread but there isnt a player on this planet that I have seen give both of them such a rough time as Drogba (on numerous previous occasions).

I just think he isnt up to full sharpness yet as is just coming back from injury isnt he?

Possibly. The Champions League semi when Drogba was up front on his own they dealt with him really well. I thought having Kalou or Pizarro up there with him would mean he got more freedom but they still seemed to have him pretty well covered. Maybe it was because he wasn't quite up to speed yet.

Still a decent match ruined by a stupid ref. I think the Chelsea players were as suprised as the Liverpool ones over that penalty. I guess the "Penatly that never was" evens things out from Garcia's "Goal that never was" eh

Yeah, but that would have been a penalty if the goal hadn't stood (foul on Baros by the keeper), but there you go
